Maf sensor problems on my 87 SE-V6

What's up guys...Just want to say what a helpful sight this seems to be so far. It seems to have some very knowledgeable people here. That said... HELP! My problem is my mass air sensor #12 on the ecm. I took it off and cleaned it per some instructions I found on here. That didn't fix the problem, so I purchased one online, since I couldn't find one anywhere local. When it finally arrived yesterday, I installed it right away thinking my problem would be solved. Although it seemed to run a little better the problem still exist. Thinking I may have fouled out some plugs, I replaced them all. Still no results. What are my chances I received a bad (new in the box) maf sensor? BTW. This is a 87 Pathy with the sensor directly on the throttle body. I did reset the ecm, but it still has the 12 code. Any suggestions on this, will be greatly appreciated! Thanks. P.S. It is an after market sensor. I only purchased this one when my mechanic friend said he had installed a bunch of these with no problems. Oh yeah...It was about $100 cheaper.These things are High Dollar for a 25 yr. old vehicle, but whatever the price...I love my Pathfinder!

just a wild guess pulled out of my ___! The throttle body has passages for air to pass over the sensor, if they are plugged up with sludge and preventing the air from passing by the sensor it will not read right. These old throttle body setups are bad for building up deposits. Other than that you would need to start testing with a meter.

I tried everything you suggested, and it all checked out ok...Just got a faulty one I guess. I'm calling the distributor tomorrow, and going to send this one back! I read on here somewhere that the after market ones were known not to work, and couldn't be trusted.Thanks again for the diagrams!

Glad I could help. I have the whole FSM for an 89 hardbody in pdf, most of the info is the same for the pathfinder. If you are interested pm me an email and I'll send you a link to my dropbox so you can download it. It's almost 100 meg, too much to email.
