findmypath
Hi Everyone, While driving yesterday out of the blue my A/C blower started blowing on the highest setting and now nothing will turn it off (besides pulling the fuse). I checked online and on NPORA's posts but there seems to be no real concrete answer. Before I take the walk of shame and take it into the mechanic I wanted to know if any of you have this issue. Some folks on the net said it can be the "fan speed amplifier" or the "blower control module". Each of those is pretty expensive so I'd like to confirm first. This is a 2003 Pathfinder with the digital climate control module w/out Nav. Looking forward to your replies. Thanks.
devonianwalk
Most likely the fan amp. Ours is interchangeable with several diff Nissan cars with automatic climate control. Check some local JY as they are really easy to replace.
BowTied
Yup, it is the module for the blower motor. This is the electronic version of the fan resistor on non-climate control cars. The good news is it is an easy replace job. It is behind the glove box. Bad news is the module ain't cheap. Here in the GWN it was $200, but you southerners should be able to get a better price. I looked today by the blower and I don't see anything that looks like a part that I can replace...how does this blower motor resistor look like... is it this? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=1316833&parttype=6557 Thanks. BowTied
No, I believe that is the blower motor resistor for standard HVAC. The climate control has an electronic "amplifier" module (which does the same thing except it can ramp fan speed up and down to the setting, more variable control). With the information from this post plus some other sources I'm pretty sure it is a faulty Fan Control Amp. Here are some good links to help. http://www.justanswer.com/nissan/1onjy-blower-motor-resistor-nissan-pathfinder-se.html And if some of you are handy with a soldering iron there seems to be a $4 fix for this as well... http://forums.nicoclub.com/how-to-fix-your-fan-control-amplifier-t433421.html I'll keep you guys posted. devonianwalk
There's a thread about it somewhere here. Can't find it right now because I'm on my phone.
