I have a '97 Pathfinder SE, with 87,000 miles on it. Yesterday I had it in the shop for some minor repairs, and just happened to mention to my mechanic that I wouldn't be needing a timing belt for a while yet, since the owner's manual says they should be changed every 105,000 miles. He looked at me very strangely, then went into his office and showed me a parts-changing-interval card he has, that said it should be changed every 60,000 miles in a 97 Pathfinder. (???) Needless to say, I am very confused, and don't want my timing belt breaking and ruining the engine (since it's an Interference Engine). What is the truth here, and why would his recommendation (from that card) vary so much from the owner's manual?

Mech needs $$$, go with the owners manual. If you replace it at the cards recommendation, mech makes almost twice the $$$ in labor.
