  1. +1 on the XR400. I've had my 99 XR400 for almost 7 years now and still don't want any other bike for the trail riding that I do. As others have already said, its a bulletproof bike that just keeps going. I've beat mine up pretty good with lots of run-ins with trees, rocks, gravity, whatever and it always starts right back up and keeps me on the trail. The only things you really need to add to them are some good bark-busters to keep your fingers firmly attached to your hands in the event of a tree or two jumping in front of you. Before the XR I had a 300EX ATV that I was never too comfortable on. Possibly because I grew up on dirtbikes, or because I'm 6'3 and 200 pounds. The bike just fits better.

Sounds like MWS has a great deal for you, I'd definitely try to do that. Good luck.

  2. I JUST INSTALLED THE NEW RANCHO QUICK LIFT SHOCKS FOR FRONT AND REAR WHICH GAVE ME 2" LIFT AND ALSO INSTALLED 285/75/16 BFG ALL-TERRAINS. LOOKS PRETTY SWEET. I HAD TO TRIM THE FENDER LINER SOME AND THE FRONT LOWER BUMPER VALANCE ON THE CORNER. BUT YOU CANT REALLY SEE IT.

Got any more information on this lift? What else does it include besides shocks? How much $$$?

  3. I will post pictures after I do the install and get it aligned. Probably wont be putting new tires on it for a bit $$$$ I need to, stock tires are awful Ive never had problems with hydro plaining before I got this vehicle

Cool, I can't wait to see more than just the one picture they have on their site. What size tires do you have on yours now?

  4. I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers on mine in 265/75 R16. I think the larger tire looks a little better, but I wish these tires were offered with white lettering. I have about 15,000 miles on them so far and they are wearing well and have been good in both the snow and some mud. They are much quieter than the MTR's I had on my 01 too. They aren't very expensive, but did have some good reviews, so I tried them and am impressed.

  5. I need a way to get more things packed into the Pathfinder, especially with Christmas coming. I think the roof top cargo bags seem to be the least expensive way of getting more waterproof space. Has anyone used one of these? I'm looking for any opinions on brands that worked or didn't work for any reason. Thanks for the help!

  6. hey abomb, nice grill gaurd. haha.

curt mfg has them in white, yellow (WHY YELLOW!?!) and sahara beige for 96-04 pathys.

Yeah, the grill guard needs some more undercoating and paint soon if I'm going to leave it on. Did you ever get your bumper?

Curt only shows that they have those colors, but they also say they do color matching other places on the website, so you might be able to get it custom painted.

  7. I originally was looking for the Destination MT's also, but couldn't find anyone who stocked them. I don't think I'd order tires that I couldn't test fit first.

Sounds like the utility knife is the way to cut the inner fender. I did mine in Wisconsin in January, so it wasn't exactly warm out to soften the plastic. I first tried the knife, but the plastic was too hard that time of year.

  8. i remember reading in a tire upgrade thread about a tire/wheel upgrade for a vq r50 that we have to stick with 16" rims because of the caliper size. no clue on tire size. i am gonna get 255/70 for my 01, but i run a stock suspension.

That's correct. You wouldn't be able to run a 15" rim without grinding down the caliper or some fun stuff like that. I'd stick to the 16" rims. Also, I wouldn't go with any more than 4.25" backspacing if you are going to use 265/75 16's. My wheels are 4.25" backspacing on 16x8 rims with 265/75 16 MTR's and there is very little space left between the tire and the strut. I also had to do some trimming of the inner fender to keep these tires from rubbing at full lock with the AC lift.

As far as backspacing and offset, there is a difference. Backspacing is the distance between the mounting surface of the rim and the inside edge of the rim. Offset I believe is the distance (positive or negative) from the center of the rim that the mounting surface sits. So on a 8" wide rim, 0 offset would mean 4" backspacing. Positive offset would be more backspacing (> 4" on 8" rim) which sets the rim in closer to the center of the vehicle. Negative offset will be less backspacing (< 4" on 8" rim) and will put the rim further from the center of the vehicle which will stick out from the fenders a little more.
