  1. The knock is audible when I hit bumps in the road (rr crossings, pot holes, speed bumps) but, they are not loud enough to annoy me. In fact, if I'm listening to music on the radio it is merely a "back ground" nuisance. If I'm listening to NPR (talk radio) the knock is more prevelent.

I'm greatful that other posters here on the forums gave us a "heads up" on the noise as I would have thought that I had some sort of install problem.

yea same with me, and thanks for all of your help man, really helped. ill post some pics once i get the ball rolling on this project.

  2. The truck deff has a lot of "rake". Even with the strut spacer there will be some height difference. I really don't mind as I often load my rig down with tailgating equipment and occasionally go on extended trips (luggage, tools, gear, etc.) with family and friends. I more or less got the spacers to level the rake and help with approach angles when I start hitting the trails. The mud is only fun for so long you know.

Yea, my goal is to get it to sit as level as i can, so ill be spacing it as i need to. One more question, how is the "knock" when the struts top out. im not thrilled that this is going to happen with the AC lift, but just how bad is it? and is there a way to use a rubber stopper or something to stop it from compressing fully?

  3. Funny you ask about the spacers. I just bought some NX4 1" strut spacers from PaMountainbiker (he upgraded to a SFD). I have yet to install them as they will require me to re-align my front end.

As for the camber? Yes, I went with four (two per strut) camber bolts. I highly recommend them as they do make a huge differnce. With out them the front wheels would have a "bulldog" stance when viewed from the front of the truck. I was not completely sold on the camber bolts until my friend installed them to the struts and "adjusted" them before mounting the wheels. The camber angle was greatly noticeable.

yea i was going to order the camber bolts as well, did your truck sit level after the AC springs were installed? iv read that without spacing the front struts that the truck will sit with the rear end up. thanks for all your help dude

  4. I was (almost) in your boat a couple of months ago. I went with your formula but, changed my plans going with 15" rims as the tires seem to be a little cheaper. I too, went with the GY Duratracs that are 31" in diameter. I can tell that the 31's would be a bit too tall for the stock height suspension.

My suggestion would be to do what I did. Wait to install the AC 2" susupension and put the tires on at the same time. I too wanted to do it in steps but, I would have had to go with smaller tires. I am happy as could be with my 31 x 10.5 x 15's that are aggressive enough to do some moderate trailing. My next steps will be the skid plate and rock sliders. Until then ...

Also, looking forward to your pictures. Please take a couple of "before" pics as you will for sure provide us with plenty of "after" shots!

Here's My link for my build several weeks ago.

truck looks great man. thats exactly how i want mine to end up looking. and thanks for the advice. are you running any spacers to level the suspension and did you adjust the camber at all with the AC lift?

  5. Hey guys, iv been a member of NPORA for a while now and for the past few years iv been planning on lifting my 2002 SE R50, but things have come up and it had to wait, but now that i have the summer off of college and the money to do it, i figured now is the best time as any to start this project. Im planning on just a 2 inch AC lift, with warn hubs, GR-2 Front Struts, Bilstein Rear Shocks and then just seeing where it goes from there. (bars, armor, racks etc.) With the lift I obviously need new tires, and thats where my question come in. After reading countless reviews, im pretty set on picking up the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. They seem perfect for my pathfinder because of the great on and off road ability, plus the rating for snow and ice, which is a big deal for me living in the northeast.

I have stock 16's (six star spokes) on my truck now and was thinking about going with 245/75/16. The thing is that i want to mount the tires probably a month or 2 before I lift the thing, so if anyone knows if the tires will fit without the lift, or anything else they want to add i would be really grateful. This is my first automotive project and i really have no clue what im getting myself into. Thanks in advance for the help.

Heres a current pic of it. pretty much stock besides a hitch, 10 inch JL audio W7 sub, and alpine head unit.

My luckiest encounter was actually running from the cops. it was 2:30 am on a Friday night, and i was in my friends volvo 850 turbo and were were intoxicated. we were flying down a local B road doing like 90ish in a 40. and for some reason there is a cop sitting in a speed trap off to the side. We didn't see him till we passed him. We look in the mirrors and see the blue and red light flip on, and turn to follow us. at this point we are about to crest over a hill, and there would be at least 20 seconds of the cop loosing sight with us.

So spur of the moment, we take a sharp right into a residential neighborhood that luckily we had a friend that had a house there. so we fly through the neighborhood, end up taking 2 or 3 weird turns to get to his house. at the end of the road, the road stops heading straight, and you have the option to take a left into the small street that ends in a dead end (which my friend lives on) or take a right and head back to a main road. we decide to take the left and pull up our friends driveway. we fly up it, turn the car off, and flip the lights off and wait. His house was the first one on the left after taking the left out of the intersection, and we can see the intersection from his driveway.

Less than 10 seconds later the cop flies up to the intersection, but pauses for a good 45 seconds, looking around. At this point we thought we were screwed and he was calling for backup, so we look at each other and accept the fact. but, as we are about to open the doors, he slowly pulls through the intersection, and takes a RIGTH! Somehow he must have lost us, or didn't hear the ticking of the car cooling down on the driveway less than 45 feet from him. :scratchhead:

Im new to posting on NPORA, but i hope i did a half decent job in painting the picture of the night i came closest to being arrested. and i hope it was a good read. Hope to see you guys around NPORA!

  7. I think that even if you went with a 32 you would still have to trim and still have to run a wheel spacer up front if you're goin to be using stock wheels. As far as shocks are concerned, I got some cheap shocks from pro comp Es3000's they were designed for an explorer but they work great for my pathy. I have heard bad things about the rancho shocks in the back with them leaking and stuff, so id say go with bilsteins, and definately get KYB STRUTS, whatever you do DO NOT GO WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN KYB for the struts. I love mine and so does everyone else. Go in the r50 section and look at the thread in the pinned topics about lifting your pathy there is a bunch of info there

thanks for all of your help. i think im going to end up going for the 33's then.

So far i have a bone stock 2002 pathy se

so what im looking to get would be:

    1. https://www.4x4parts.com/catalog/pathfinder-deluxe-suspension-package-p-1960.html

    2. Warn locking hubs

    3. 32 or 33 bfg BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO

    4. and where do i need to get / determine what size or type of wheel spacers to get?

again, thanks for all of your help.

  8. Dont listen to what they say about a 3.75 offset wheel. Most people are thrown off by that, in reality if you are going to run 31's which will likely be a 10.5 wide, a wheel with a 3.75 bs would be necessary to clear the front strut and not rub while turning. But since im assuming you want to put on a 285-75(33)if you run a 3.75 bs wheel in the back it will rub and not be able to flex. So basically im running a bigger size tire than what AC says will fit on the lift. It just took more persuasion :chairfall: You can still get a new set of wheels if you like but if you are going to run a 285-75 make sure they are a 4.25 or 4.50 bs and then buy a spacer for the front. Plus on the bright side wheels with a 4.25 or 4.50 bs are easier to find and tend to be cheaper :aok:

As far as the lift kit goes, I would advise not to purchase an actual package deal from ac. The only parts that you truly need from them are the actual lift springs. You can save a bit more money by getting the rear shocks, Manual Locking Hubs and front struts else where, or if you dont feel like doing that then just order a package, its up to you, if you want to put in the time to find the right model struts and shocks, or just buy from ac and pay a bit more but know that the parts will definitely fit.

thanks buddy. ya, im looking to do the 2 inch lift, and would probably just buy one of the AC packages. are you running the rancho or the Bilstein rear shocks? And im going to keep my stock wheels. (same stock 6 spokes as your ride) but im really hoping to not have to cut anything off my car to make the tire fit. if i went with a 32, do you think there would be rubbing issues without having to cut, or should i stick with a 33 and make it work? thanks for all of your help.

  9. hey man. great write up. i have a stock 2002 pathy SE and im looking to do the same thing. 2 inch lift, bigger tires, etc... anyway i went to 4x4parts.com to find the 2 inch ac lift you wrote about. but im a little confused. in each suspension lift, i notes that "You must purchase aftermarket wheels with 3.75" negative backspace when installing this lift." according to your post you point out that you need a 4.25 or greater backspace for it to work. i was wondering if you could set me strait, or show me what im not understanding. and possibly post the link to the suspension kit you purchased. thanks alot buddy. sweet truck.

  10. hey, i have a 2002 pathy se 4x4. pretty much stock. iv started to do some off roading with a couple of friends who have jeeps. they give me @!*% about driving a pathy, but i still hang with em. i don't have the funds for a lift or anything, but i want some new rubber so i can smoke em. iv been doing my reasurch, and it looks like the BFG A/T tires look perfect for me. but, will they fit on my stock rims? i have the 16 inch 6 spoke

and what size should i look for that will fit my truck. i still want to drive highway and around town/parking lots with it so i wanna make sure it fits.

im not quite sure how to post photos on NPORA yet, but i have a pic here.
