    chopped doors

closest pull it lot is an hour and a half away and in a sketchy part or va. beach so guys jump the fence at night and tear stuff up for fun so most of their stuff is worthless . Every other lot wanted alot more than it was going to cost me with shipping . $525 was the cheapest I got quoted for all the parts I need at local junkers , while I got everything I needed plus a few extra parts to replace some stuff that was a worn out like the rear bumper for $350 shipped . p.
  2. no uglier than a unimog , what scares me more is the yellow mirrors you took the pic over.

    chopped doors

that's nice . I think I am going to have to do it , I hate wires thought . Hit a deer pretty square on this weekend going to take it offroad for the first time to get a baseline of what I'm up against , so plans are on hold until I get the front end back in shape. A friend of mine with a tube bender and I talked to a state trooper friend of mine , and I think we are going to end up building a set of tube doors on the stock hinges ( I just want it realy open with no tickets) . It's a few weeks off since I can't get good clean parts for a fair price around here (west coast guys are soo lucky) I had to send away to arizona to get rust free stuff. I'll put some pics up when we get it done. p.
  4. the thought of hydrogen in something I am going to use offroad quite frankly has my hair standing on end . I have visions of the first guys trying to fly jumping off cliffs with kites strapped to their backs . However the first gas engines were called internal explosion engines by the steam power guys so maybe it's not as dangerous as I am thinking. Good luck .
  5. for years I have gone down to the outerbanks n.c. at least monthly . It is one of my favorite things to do because I get to combine all of my favorite activitie in one foul swoop (wheeling , surfing , and fishing ) . It is amazing I wake up early and go out on the beach drive till I find a secluded spot , throw a line in the water and put the pole on the front of the truck , paddle out and catch some waves while I wait for the fish to hit to take back for a great callabash dinner . I recently found out that the federal government is trying to limit or stop all beach traffic in the frisco area . I may be talking to myself when I say this , but I don't know anywhere else (on the east coast , you westies have all the luck ) you can pull in nice tuna and clean overhead lefts all day. There is a little organization that is trying to stop this http://www.ncbba.org/index.html . If you are an east coaster and havent been it's time before it's too late , and if you already know what I am talking about think about trying to help in some way , because today it's my backyard and tommorow it might be yours . If we give them an inch they will take all the fun out of this hobby . thanks for listening , p.

    chopped doors

good thought I have never played with a truck newer than 1980 . Darn black boxes ruin everything . I used to run a 90 accord in scca and rhino lined the interior in it (I split conduit to make tunnels to shield the wire I couldnt run in a better location.) I was keeping my spare slicks and my tools where the back seat used to be and it made things real easy to clean up and I didn't have to worry about denting things up when I threw the jack in the back. I'll probably pull the carpet to see what I am up against anyway . If I made a water proof box do you think I could get away with just venting it or do you think I would have to run something like a little fan to keep the ecu cool ?
  7. Is anyone running chopped doors? I have a line on a set doorswith the glass already gone that I would like to run , but don't know the legality . I see them all the time in mags on yotas , but have never seen them in person . My state probably looks down on those without full doors , but the law dosen't say no in so many words. I would hate to ruin a nice set of doors then go out and get a ticket . Also I would love to pull all my carpet and rear seat and rinoline the whole interior, so I can hose it out . Has anyone tried this , and if so , how much of a hassel is it to hide the stock harnesses ? Any help would be greatly appreciated , as this thing will see mostly beach time ( the best surf spots in N.C. are truck access only ) and clean up is a pain with carpet. thanks p.
