  1. Bienvenido my hermano! :hugs: Yo soy de Arecibo I have been away from the forum for a while due to work and family issues and it is a very pleasant surprise to finally come back and find another boricua here. I also left mi islita to join the Army but stayed in the US when I got out (tu sabes lo difisil que es conseguir un buen trabajo en Puerto Rico). I haven't been to PR for a while but my mom and sisters still live there.

  2. Hi guys,

Last sunday on the way to church I stopped at a red light and when I went to take off I heard a thump and the tranny went into neutral and hasn't worked since. the shifter still moves and I can feel it clicking into every gear but nothing happens it will also lock in park. I set the transfer case in 4H and rotated the rear drive shaft and the front one rotated so I don't think its the TC. Has anybody have this happen before? Am I looking an having to get a tranny or is this a simple fix? Could it be the torque converter gone bad? any help will be greatly apresiated.

  3. nope, he's got disks in the back unc.

i have not found an alternative to a stealer. why do you need another set? they are very thin from the factory as they are t be used exclusively for parking or an emergency. they were not designed for anything else.

and the disc/e-drum combo is sky high too.

It looks like the previous owner drove the truck with the e brake on because the shoes are almost to the metal. Im sure that if I adjust them they will work but I dont whant to take the chance of messing up the rotors.

  4. brake shoes are like $15-$20 at napa... so $40 in shoes (i think they come in 2's)

if you need drums: they're like $75 a piece

so if htey're doing shoes and drums and that includes labor then you're getting a pretty damn good deal...if not do the work yourself and if the drums are good then just do your shoes...its not too difficult if your mechanically inclined

And a side note...the rear shoes arent just for the ebrake...so no i wouldnt recommend using trailer shoes...

Thanks for the advice, :aok: I realy wish it was that simple and apologise if I didn't explain myself well enough; see my 91 came with disk brakes in the back from the factory, and some mechanical genius at Nissan desided that the brake and E-brake systems should be separate, so the rear rotors have two functions, the ouside calipers and pads only work with the brakes and there is a small drum in the center area of the rotor that looks like a 7 or 8 inch drum with small shoes wish only work with the E brake. those little shoes are the ones I was refering to. The local auto pts tell me they are a "dealer only" item hense the dealers $160.00+ tag (just for the shoes) :rant2: and there is the reason Im looking for a cheaper alternative.

  5. Hey everybody,

Has anybody fownd a cheaper alternative to replace them little E-brake shoes on the rear disk brakes? :scratchhead:

None of the local AP stores have them and the dealer whants $167.50+tax for the set. I ask because the shoes look allot like trailer brake shoes and I'm hoping that somebody else has done this before and can save me allot of reasearch time :sly:

  6. This is one of my favorite quotes, I think it applyes to the current direction of this thread ;) .

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. (Buddha)

  7. Nope, his plan is to take the curve and ramp it up even more, basically punishing prosperity.

And if you don't like the greedy buisness owners stop buying their crap and feeding the monster.

I didn't sayd I dont like buiness owners, I have a few friends who are buisness owners and most of them are strugling to keep their small buisness afloat. it is practicaly imposible to compete with the big bisness and those are the ones that I refer to as the uber rich hwo have multy millions but still choke the life out of the small buisness taking the money out of the home town and puting it in the pockets of a selected few. IE my home town main street used to be a great place to hag out, it was lined with a good varaety of small mom$pops shops and it was full of life untill the Wallmart supersenter moved in. Mom$pops could not compete with the prices and today main street is dead and what is realy sad is that those shop owners ended up working at wallmart because they don't have any other choise; wish brings me to the coment about not buying thyr crap, when they are the only plase left to buy crap you have vary little choise.

  8. Problem is that those without think they deserve a cut for doing NOTHING. I would much rather some greedy SOB has a bunch of money from doing something like running a buisness than some guy getting public assistance for doing nothing other than slappin his bitches. I am completely and totally against any governmental social programs, especially finanncial ones, and I don't think that there should be a "tax curve", it ought to be a flat rate, less BS.

I had to think about this for a second, and I agree, but I think it would be easier for thoes of us in the middle if the rich SOB got out of the way after making less say 5 mil and let the rest of us have a chance at making our 5 mil. I don't think that anybody should get something for nothing but when most of the wealth is inside a few peoples pockets there is less for you and me not to mention to pay the salaries of those police officers that arest that guy for slapping his biches. last but not least, I agree that the the tax rate should be flat, that way the more you make the more you have to pay.(Wait a minute..... doesnt that sounds similar to Obama's tax proposal? :-)

  9. I've been tring to put into words all the feelings this thread has stired in me but I can't type and my lunch hour is coming to a end  I think it is great that a bunch of people can talk about such volatile subjecs and not loose the cool. I believe that if our nation is gonna change for the beter we need to be able to talk about this things without ending up on a fight. I personaly think This mess wer'e in is all about the money; those that have allot of it whating more, and not caring who they F__k over to get it.

  10. Duuuuude way cool! :aok:

Thanks for the explanation, but I'm gonna need a little more explaning on the wire leinght afecting the spring rate. I can see this hapening when the spring is manufactured (to make a spring the same leinght with a shorter wire the coils will have to be further apart wich gives the wire a steeper angle making the spring stiffer) but I'm not geting how cuting a spring without changing the wire angle or the distance betwen coils afects the rate. I guess Ineed to get myself back to school too. Anyways, there will be a perfect oportuniti for experimenting when I install this springs.

  11. Those do sound like some kind of a lift spring.

Double check your measurements, 5 5/8" sounds way too big - should be about 5 1/4.

If they are 5 1/4" OD, you probably can cut them down to make them physically fit, but I'm afraid you're going to find them wayyyy too stiff.

If the wire is truly 5/8" in diameter (.625"), they are going to ride like an unloaded one ton truck. And I suspect they really are that big in diameter. Since the spring rate goes down as the total wire length increases, the designer would have had to increase the wire diameter to compensate.

Doing some quick math, a wire diameter of .63" will result in a spring more than twice as stiff as what you have now - ouch.

On the plus side, you could haul ALL your fat friends around and the rear of the truck won't be squatting much at all!

Double checked the measurments and the OD is 5 1/4" but the diameter is still 5/8" I put my weight (285lbs) down on one of them and it yielded more than I thought it would; could this be made of a softer materiel than the OEM ones? Does spring rate depends on diameter or on the metal aloys the pring is made of. I wish manufacturers would stamp technical info on this things or at least the brand name so I can reseach it. :rant2:

  12. I dunno. Are you telling me no one here ever did something questionable to an animal when they were young?

No one here has a random firecracker story? Nothing involving hair trimmers?

The fact that a 7 year old was able to break into a zoo makes me question the whole article. Was he put up to it?

How was he not missed? How far did he have to go to get there? Shouldn’t he have been in bed?

My original point is this: There is a fundamental lack of limits and consequences these days... Obviously not only here in the US.

This is the reason that a boy would think it's OK to go into a zoo and feed the crock or why a couple kids in Colorado would think they could get back at the mean kids by taking guns to school.

You're a liar if you claim to never having considered either option at least once in your life, but you weighed your actions against the repercussions and decided on your limits… You knew better.

Our society that has been on a downward slide for 40 years. I blame Freud and his associated clones. We’re too quick to analyze the underlying problems when the situation is often much more basic.

Personally, I’d have put a shoe in my 7 year old’s ass for trying to leave the house alone. He’d have never made it to the zoo. Simple as that.

I agree 100% not everybody is fit to be a parent and aparently this kid is one of the unlucky ones. I have met several people that have no buisness been parents.I have allways thought that people should have to get licenced to have kids. I mean we have to get a licence to get maried wish in most cases involve some kind of premarital counseling but can have a child at any time with no knowlege of how to take care of it. I think that is very unfair to the child. It is true that some people have a knack for it but there are others that can use all the help they can get. I hope my coments didn't ruffle too many feathers :D

  13. Hi,

I just came back from the junk yard and I got a set of springs from a 2000 cherokee sport. the measurements are 4in ID, 5 5/8in OD and 22in long, the diameter is about 5/8in and I counted 12 coils. Sinse these seem to be thicker and taller than anything I have seen in this thread Im asuming they are lift springs for the Cherokee. Has anybody used this type of springs before? My pathy is my only mode of transprtation so I cant aford to have to disasemble the rear end a bunch of times to re cut this springs. any sugestions will be apresiated.
