I just investigated this a few weeks ago. Search my postings and you will find out the conclusion I came too.

Short version: Buy GSP from Rock Auto. Best price. I just purchased two for approx. $68.00 each incl. shipping. I'll send you a PM with my discount code for even more savings. Kirk

Rock auto....just turned onto them and purchased parts three seperate times. No need to price shop anymore they are the best. Fast shipping. your choice on quality of part.

Sent PM let me know if you got it

    Hey Kirk,

Can you share that discount code with me?

    Why not the Cardone units?

  2. I like BFG AT KOs but if all-terrain tires were in my future, I would strongly consider Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos or even the Wrangler SilentArmors.

And yes, if you do get the GR2's you lose the "adjustable" suspension feature, but as far as I can tell, that feature proved to be worthless, since it was discontinued after '96. All it means is that the GR2's don't have the [apparently worthless] ability to be valved differently depending on the position of a switch on the dash.

Ok, so the GR2's will physically fit and work no issues? Is there a better strut/shoch out there I should consider? Having nice ride quality is most important but I don't want to break the bank either.

  3. I'll look around for tires. I was hoping to get BFG AT KO tires because I had those on my Jeep and loved them. I don't do any hardcore offroad driving though so these are probably overkill. Any opinions out there as to a nice all-season tire for these rigs that will allow me to do some offroad stuff (just trails) also? Must be great for rain and snow since I live in the Seattle area. :)

Also, I need new struts & shocks. I was going to buy the KYB GR2 units but it says not for vehicles with the adjustable suspension. I have the adjustable suspension but don't care to keep that feature. Will these KYB units work or am I stuck with OEM units? Thanks!!

  4. The Jeep Cherokee I used to own would require a new TPS every ~30k miles. It would start to shift weird and that was always the fix for it. I do think my vehicle speed sensor is failing because every now and then the speedometer won’t work. Once the vehicle gets up to about 40mph the speedometer works again. This doesn’t happen often, but every now and then. I originally thought this sensor could be confusing the transmission computer but from what folks are saying here it sounds like normal operation.

I have to say, coming from a ’98 Cherokee I really enjoy my ’96 Pathfinder. It rides much better, has more room inside, etc.

  5. I'll do a transmission filter change/flush to see if it works any different. I was surprised at it changing RPMs that often (on cruise control too) even though no added load was being placed on the engine. I've never experience that with an automatic but if several folks on here have the same condition it sounds like a normal thing. That makes me feel a lot better.

    Thanks for the input everyone!!

  6. when was the last time you had it flushed? what size tires are you running?

Mine is the same way but i have 31's. Ive noticed that even with the slightest wind it will jump to between 3-4K and stay there till I let off the gas. But this is because I have the 4.3 gears and tires that are bigger than stock.

Right now it has 235/75R15 street biased tires. Last flush was at around 100k miles according to the original owner.

  7. I just purchased my 1996 Pathfinder used (obviously). It drives great but I have noticed something that does concern me a little. While cruising on the highway the transmission “hunts” every now and then. It will just shoot up 300-500rpm and stay that way for a little while and then go back down. It does it quite frequently. It’s not based on load (climbing up a hill or accelerating) so I’m a little worried. The vehicle has 156k miles. What could this be? Is it a common issue or standard operation?

Also, the 1-2 shift is pretty rough and the 2-3 shift pretty soft. This may be normal but I don’t know. The transmission fluid is clean and at the proper level.

  8. Fukinitupagain...nice ride!!!

I'm thinking I might go with BFG 30x9.5x15 AT KO tires. Looks like the 31" might be a bit large for what I plan on doing. I don't suppose anyone has a picture of how that looks with OEM wheels and stock suspension? Would these tires look smaller than the factory size 265/70R15 tires? I think those are a bit wider.

I love the look of Fukinitupagain's truck but the lady has to drive this also. It might scare her. lol

  9. Ok, I think I understand a little better. :coffee!:

-The 15x7 wheel is available in two backspaces (3.75” & 4.5”)

--The centerline of the wheel is 3.5”

---The 3.75” backspace has an offset of 6.35mm and the 4.5” backspace has an offset of 25.4mm

-The 15x8 wheel is also available in two backspaces (3.75” & 4.5”)

--The centerline of the wheel is 4”

---The 3.75” backspace has an offset of -6.35mm and the 4.5” backspace has an offset of 12.7mm

Does that sound right? Am I correct to assume that the only wheel that would work is the 15x8 with a backspace of 3.75”?

  10. I ran the 31x10.5 MFG MTs (the same tires I run now with the 2" lift) on stock & aftermarket rims (15x8 black rock crawlers) before I lifted it without any problems

I don't suppose you have a picture of what it looked like? No rubbing issues?

Do you remember the wheel offset?

Does anyone know the offset for the factory OEM SE wheels?

  11. 1st post! Hello :puterpunch:

Right now my PF is running stock wheels. I believe they are 15x7 but I don’t know the offset. Anyway I’m considering aftermarket steel wheels (plain black powdercoat) and AT tires (likely BFG AT KO). I don’t ever plan to lift the PF but want an aggressive look without going silly.

Is 30x9.5x15 the best tire size to get in this case?

What size rim (15x7 or 15x8) should I get and what offset is needed?

    Thanks!!
