  1. alright this is what i plan on doing

    new rings

    rod bearings

    main bearings

    full gasket kit

    timing belt

    crank seal (front main)

    rear main seal

12 lifters (unless i can salvage some of the old ones)

    new plugs & wires

    re hone the cylinders

put her back together and hit the trails again

everything except the plugs and wires is going to cost right around $420 + the oild to fill her back up...

thanks for the responses and if anyone is needing gaskets or anything like that i have a great website that has the full kit pretty cheap....

  2. alright i know i havent really been on in a long time and im sorry.... but now i have a few ?'s about my vg30 rebuild...

alright first thing is its already been pulled but the bad part about it is it was exposed to the elements during the hurricane we had a while back and now i have to rebuild further into the motor than what was previously discussed....

it has been a while since i pulled the motor apart and it is about 45min from me so i am going to ask a few /'s

like how many lifters total are in the vg30 i know half of mine were shot but i am going to replace all of them..

i am going to pull the cylinders should i bore it out or keep it factory...

should i change the main bearings??? is there a way to check them to see if they need replacing????

i will have some more ?'s but i have to go for now, thanks for any input yall have for me...

  3. a couple months ago their was white smoke coming from the vents - I had no idea what it was and after 2 days it never happend again... well last night i was checking out my fuse box and I think i discoverd the source of the mysterious white smoke.. that i believe is the radio fuse - (my radio/cd is working fine though) check it out and PLEASE give my your advice on what the hell happened - and I'm wondering are those wires connected to those fuses and is there a relay missing up above their and what relays are those exactly?? thanks guys for your help!

those wires that are there i bet are your radio wires... instead of running with the factory wires they just ran jumpers to the fuse panel....

  4. i have some lifter problems for sure, and it looks like the motor went 215k without a rebuild based on all the sludge in the oil pan.... so i think i am going to need to do a light rebuild on her... but i wont be able to get her ready by the next trip we have planed so i think i am going to get another motor from a friend in houston and slowly rebuild my motor.... here is a list of everything i need so far....

complete top end gasket kit $171.99

    oil pan gasket $10.99

    timing belt $13.99

lifters $13.99 a peice and i think im going to replace them all

    crankshaft seal $47.99

    spark plug wires $55.99

now for the master rebuild kit that comes with

    Premium ring set

Kit includes: Rod bearings, main bearings, full gasket set, camshaft1, camshaft2, lifters, timing belt, camshaft timing gear, oil pump, freeze plug kit.

will run me around $900 so i really dont know what im going to do yet.... here are some pics of the motor now....

i will keep yall updated on the progress of the pathy

  5. A guy in our club spent some time in a mudhole with his Pathy. After we recovered him, he had low idle and when he stepped on the gas, it was a bad, bad knocking-clanging sound.

Turns out after thinking it was a bearing, the mud had gotten in behind the lower timing belt cover and filled up the cavity. It caused the timing belt to jump one tooth. Maybe check behind your t-belt covers. You never know.

thanks for the info... i have already pulled the top cover of the timing belt and it was pretty nast in there.... this weekend i am going back over there to begin the process of elimination and that will be the first thing i look into... i also have to change the front main seal.....

  6. well after 9hrs of working we finally go the motor out.... it only took about 2hrs to unhook everything and the rest was trying to get the motor out... the problem is we couldn't get the oil pan to clear the diff so we ended up taking the pan off and pulling till it cleared.. now what is the right steps to pull and replace the motor so i know when i put it back in??? thanks for all the help....

  7. mo scope and yes i drained the oil to make sure it didn't have any water in it... i also have the front seal that is leaking so i also have to change that out when i pull the motor i am going to start working on it around 9am and when i get home i will post up and let yall know what i find... if i can i will have pics but I'm not going to guarantee anything..... LOL

  8. well when i was stuck it started knocking so we shut off the motor... now when you start it i has a rough idle and when you give it some gas it starts knocking real bad... everyone i have talked to said it sounds like a spun bearing so i hope that's all it is.. i want to get it ready for July 4th weekend cause we have another trip scheduled in alto, TX....

  9. well I'm finally going to be pulling the motor this weekend to figure out what exactly i did in that god forsaken mud hole.. LOLi will hopefully taking alot of pics but i cant guarantee anything....

i hope that when we pull in and flip it over i find a spun bearing and nothing more... LOL if anything else is messed up i will be looking to get a new motor.. i found a few for 400-500 ... and i know at least one of them still runs...

for those of you who haven't seen the pics of the pit here you go.. LOL

i will keep yall in the loop as to how it goes.. LOL

  10. there was no abrupt stop... i as all the way at the end and only had a few feet to go i got boged down so i backed up to hit it again and got stuck..... i really dont know how it made the seal fail but i know it wasnt leaking before i took it in that pit and now it is...... i will take a couple of pics so yall can tell me what seal i need...

  11. i attempted a mud bog that nobody else wanted to hit.... now the pathy needs alot of motor work, i have a seal that is pouring oil and it starts knocking at high idle.... here are some of the pics.....
