  1. I had the same problem a few months ago. What I did was switch to Shell gas 87 octane (was using BJ's gas since 2002) and poured a can of Sea Foam into my gas tank. After the first 100 miles and got better. I don't know if it was the gas or the Sea Form or a combination of both. I haven't had the problem since. I hope what I did works for you.

     

     

    OK, so the dealer just called (I had to put it in as I couldn't locate the problem).

     

    1 month outside of warranty (2004 sold in 2005), voltage regulator/alternator on their way out. Basically runs OK under no load then the alternator/regulator play up when under load.

     

    They are quoting me around $500 (main dealer). It sounds expensive to me.

    Hope somebody can help..

     

    I have a 2004 Pathfinder 3.5 SE. I'm in Saudi and I do basic maintenance myself unless I have no option but to take to the dealer.

     

    I think I might have a fuelling or ignition glitch. The car starts up fine, runs fine at idle, but when it gets warm it feels like it is down on power (almost like it is running lean) and it misses a beat from time to time, sometimes jerking a bit. It might do this for a short whle then clear for a bit, then return.

     

    This gets worse if I put the engine under load, switch on the AC, climb a hill.

     

    Seems fine when starting from cold, It has been happening for a few weeks, the air, fuel and oil filters have been replaced, doesn't burn any oil, I've ran a couple of tanks of fresh gas through it in case it was poor fuel, only got 25,000 miles on the clock, any ideas?

    It is problematic and v. slow for me to get anything from Ebay delivered here, or order from aftermarket suppliers. I'm in Saudi.

     

    It's a 2004 Pathy and I was hoping somebody might have fully dimensioned plans and details for a suitable trailer hitch. I'm looking for chassis dims, plate details, tube sizes, overall dims and offsets, etc etc.

     

    The bike is les than 120 Kg (lightweight enduro bike) so is within than the vertical load rating of the standard Nissan hitch.

    I have a 2004 Pathy. I also have a KTM 450EXC. I want to carry the KTM on an aluminium beam rail fixed to the rear trailer hitch.

     

    Only one problem.. I don't have a hitch. And the Nissan importer here doesn't stock them, or plan on bringing any in. There are no aftermarket hitches available either.

     

    Anybody got any dimensioned plans for a hitch? I can get one made up by a local fabricator at cost here no problem.

     

    Really appreciate it if anybody can help.

  5. Pathfinder People.

     

    My situation is this: I can do the mechanical stuff myself for the PV screw thing no problem. But I'm stuck out in the desert in the Middle East and I have no Haynes manual for the bolting sequences/torque settings etc.

     

    If anybody can PDF or JPG me a good legible copy of the relevant pages of the Haynes manual for the Upper manifold removal I'll do a full photo walk through with associated text and all relevant technical info for the Forum.

     

    I also don't have any gaskets out here, so Im going to reuse the originals. The engine has only done approximately 17K so I'll see how this works out.

  6. So the motor on the Pathfinder has been ticking for around 8,000 km. My shop in town told me to get it diagnosed at a dealer, which I finally did today. They say it is a lifter (that is what my mechanic thought too). All they did was add some Kleen Flow valve oil additive stuff and suggested doing this for the next 2-3 oil changes. If the noise does not go away after that, then it will be time to get into the motor and see what is up.

     

    I of course want to bring this to the well versed techs here at NPORA and see what you think. Is the dealers suggestion reasonable? Anything else?

     

    More info: 135,758 km; full synthetic oil since 100,000 km, changed every 5,000 km; no codes showing; no engine drivability issues. Except for the noise, the motor has not been this good for as long as I have owned it :tongue:

    I had this problem on a Pajero.

     

    One simple fix to try (no guarantees) is to try bleeding it. This is from memory so I may be out on the revs/timings:

     

    Put valve cleaning admixture in.

     

    Start engine. Increase revs gradually over 15 seconds to 4000 RPM. Hold for 5 seconds. Reduce back to idle for 15 seconds. Repeat 20 times.

     

    This can help flush out a hydraulic lifter apparently and is recommended by Mitsubishi as a first stage if lifters are rattly.

     

    Like I said, no guarantees. It didn't work on my old Pajero but you never know..

    I have a 2004 Pathy SE. I use it a lot in the desert here in the Middle East. We don't get a lot of fog here lol, but the more lights the better at night on the desert trails.

     

    I'm looking to mount a pair of driving lights on the front and rather than go to all the hassle of a seperate circuit and switching and routing, I wondered if it was possibe to wire them in parallel one either side with the front fog lights?

  8. Hello Gentlemen

     

    I have just bought a late 2004 Pathfinder. It was first registered in early 2005 and has 15K on the clock and a full MD service history. It seems pretty good so far.

     

    Can anybody advise me as to whether I need to worry about the throttle body screws coming loose? Did Nissan do anything about the issue on later models or are all years at risk?

     

    I also read somewhere about exhaust manifold studs and cracking of the manifold. Same question to the learned.

  9. Hi. I'm a Brit and just taken delivery of a minter 2004 SE 3.5 V6 Pathfinder here in Saudi Arabia.

     

    Originally bought in early 2005, FMDSH and 27K kilometers, hardly used. Hopefully good for some real milage now.

     

    Must have been near the end of production as it was October 2004 I think on the door plate?

     

    Looking forward to some desert trails and camping with my wife, also towing my KTM 450 EXC.

     

    Any real 'must know' stuff about this model? I was hoping that all the bugs would have been ironed out by the 2004 models but I saw the stuff on the intake screws dropping into the manifold :chairfall:

     

    Does this apply to 2004 models and anything else I need to check before I take it out to play?
