  1. Assuming you just did a pad slap and that you did it yourself you should have the basic skill sets to determine if you installed them correctly or if a backing plate has delaminated (very rare). My best guess with what you are describing is noise from the lip on the rotor. The old pads were worn and mated with the rotor. Now you have a fresh square edged pad hitting this lip causing the noise. You can resolve this issue several ways. Replacing or turning the rotor to remove the lip and make it true (best route). Or take the new pads and chambfer the top and bottom edges to not contact the lip. Or try EBC Greenstuff performance pads. They come with a bedding in abrasive on the pad that will knock the lip down and provide faster break-in. Unless your rotors are shot (heavily grooved/lipped). I just put a set of EBC pads on my R50 for about $45.00 and the performance advantage was significant for the minimal cost. But i also replaced the rotors. Good luck and don't use oil based products on your brake surfaces anymore.

BTW: If WD40 fixes the problem for a day- YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY CLEARENCE/WHEEL HUB ISSUES

yeah i was just testing it, i didn't spray the inside of the pads, just through the little holes of my steelies onto the rotor a few times. but yeah the problem goes away for a day or two. So i guess im just going to have to step it up to the EBC Brake pads, or take of the tires and take a look at what's up once again, i had my buddy look at it, he spun the rotor around by hand and then put the tire back on. after that no noise, as i told him i swore there was noise, so he test drove it. and nothing, then he left and i got in about 10 minutes later, noise.

so yeah i doubt its hub issues, but thanks for the input everyone, i really appreciate it.

  2. so i changed my front brake pads, for a day or two it was fine then i started hearing what sounds like grinding/rubbing. I looked at the rotors and they look okay... it seems when i spray wd40 on the brakes, they perform okay for a day or so...

    anyone?

  3. The older r50's you'll have to most likely fix it up, unless the previous owner was a good man...or woman. Just look for the common things, test drive it, make sure the transmission is in good condition. Note: r50's can ride on 31" Tires on stock suspension, you will rub in reverse, but it is what it is, id recommend a 2" lift.

The truth is id feel like a jack ass if i took a $13,000 rig off road and banged it up, versus taking a $3,000 rig and just having a good time with it. I have a 97. Good Luck man.

  4. So i did the passenger side with no problem, what parts are needed for the Driver side, and how difficult is it to do it? does anyone know the name of the gaskets, one of my mechanic friends something about a plemmel or something i didnt quite understand him, but i figure someone here would know what parts are needed and if they need to be special ordered.

    thanks.

  5. I just got my new rims in today. I got some soft 8's 15 x 8. I took a chance having an 02 r50 I didn't mount tires on them yet because I wanted to test fit them first. When I put on the fronts the rims will spin, but just barely scrape the calipers on the inside rim twice per revolution. There is some corrosion build up on the outside of the caliper could I angle grind a hair off the edge of the caliper with no worries? Or do you think I just didn't tighten all the lugs up enough. I put masking tape on the caliper to see where it scratches and it doesn't even rip the tape just barely rubs it on the outside edge of the caliper. oh and the wheels have 4"b.s.

i got those wheels. good @!*%.

  6. Try Ebay, try car-part.com or I could always pick you up a brand new aftermarket one. I bought a power/heated drivers side mirror for my xterra for $50 bucks at a wholesaler here in town.

let me search around man, thanks for your help, i just might have to.

  7. Hello....was great to find this forum/ I recently purchased a 1993 Pathfinder on Ebay for $650.00 with 153,000 miles on it.....

It suffers from some rust issues...

I plan on patching the frame as needed and applying POR-15 to open rust areas...

I bought the truck to replace my Astro AWD.....

Before I get it on the road I was going to replace timing belt, waterpump, all fluids and hoses...any other advice?

    Thanks!

    pics.

  8. They grip really well in the snow, a little noisy on the highway. But working good so far. I set the air at 30 psi, tag in the glove box said 28.

Sorry it took me so long i was on holidays. :)

Weird! My AT's recommended 35 psi front and rear... different tire different needs...

  9. my buddys outa town and i had to feed his two dogs. so i get over there and everything is good, i was heading home, rather a foggy night i do say so myself, and i lean slightly to far to the right of the road turning onto my street. turns out i swipe a mailbox..i feel the thud and immediately fix myself in my lane. i look to my right and i see that my side view mirror is cracked and dangling...lifeless...i wanted to cry. i just wounded my baby. i felt like @!*%. i literally felt like stabbing my foot with my knife. i got home and inspected. yeah it was a @!*%ty break cracked the poor thing right in half....

    damn...

question: can 95 pathfinder side view mirrors fit on a 1997? just wondering because A. they are cheaper. and B. they look sweet.

any help would be good. so far what ive found for a 1997 mirror was 95$ or so..and thats way too much.

  10. Nice DJ. You know, your truck looks remarkably similar to mine...good taste buddy. :aok:

hell yeah man, i get people turning heads, and its not even lifted yet..

    hah

but lets see, i spent 37 for each wheel, and 500 for the four tires 100 off after thanksgiving at discount tire. so i got a deal i guess?

  11. Death on roads isn't small. It costs the community and country mega $$$$$$$. It puts unnecessary strain on services too. Especially if you don't die and are permanently disabled. The risks you want to take are great mz. That link I sent you should qualify that point, though a different issue. Look at some stats and you'll be shocked at what the road toll does cost. Economics, keeping people alive saves money. Socially, keeping people intact saves money. I am not saying forget our boys fighting the fight of illegitimate reason on behalf of war criminals in our countries. Our boys are coming home next year; problem solved.

Tell me, do car makers have to comply with laws as to how a car is made? Brakes, for example, are a very handy idea and I am certain, though I love driving fast as sw can attest to, car makers and even car owners must have them by law. We all have laws (guidelines or rules if you will) that need to be observed. It is for "all" our safety and benefit that we follow these as closely as possible so that anarchy and carnage doesn't happen. I can not see why gun ownership is somehow exempt from laws that are designed to protect the majority. Especially when most everything you use and do is governed by a rule, guideline or law already. From the time you are born (birth certificate) till the time you die (death certificate) laws are in place. Get use to it I say. Ban weapons that are designed to kill as many people as possible in the shortest time possible. What legitimate reasons could anyone have to own such killing machines.

Sorry to swing this back on topic. :omg:

you're beating a dead horse, sir.

  13. hah u guys are all slippin

my 99.5 QX4 has 2 regular cupholders (about the size of a 12 oz soda can) and one gigantic cupholder that can fit the largest 7-11 cup, or it can fit a liter bottle of jack daniels (so u can have 2 cokes and a liter of jack all in cupholders)

    hah

  14. haha the same thing happened to me, with the same drink! I was just pissed because i had to go buy another one :(

hah, damn bummer man. totally pissed.

    moral of the story:

    dont drink and drive.

  15. well so i was driving home from work. been a rough day. i got one of those long 99 cent Arizona canned Ice Teas, and it rested sort on top of the cup holder, like it didnt fit but it was able to just squeeze just good enough to where it could be semi-stable.

i was wrong, i took a turn and boom. i was sitting on tea. my entire seat covered. yeah its my fault, but damnit!!!!!!!!! it was so ****** feeling, like i could do absolutely nothing. i had half a can left, i had to take a leak, and my wallet was covered with tea, and my shorts, and my seats were wet..and my e-brake was drenched not to mention my mobile phone charger...i was pissed..real pissed...

    anyway done with my rant.

  16. I ordered these http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT63883.aspx

along with a new set of bfg at 31s. I think they only had 2 types available in 15x8.

Someone said they fit fine, but if anyone else has any input, please share. I didn't know wtf when ordering, but I figured 15x8 will fit. Now I hear all this stuff about backspacing.

Hopefully I picked up decent ones with no probs for a stock pathy.

The other ones are 4.5 backspacing, would those have been better?

I also noticed there where some 15x10s. In what application would one use those for?

you'll be good. i love my bfg's, you won't regret it man.
