  1. I bought my '87 2 dr from a wrecker. all it needed was a rad, all sheet metal in front of the windshield and the rad support got transplanted. Ran fine after that...until i blew a head gasket....but it's mostly good now. Not bad for 585000 kilometers

  2. Thanks! I have a 87 2dr with a Z24i. I think it has 2 injectors in the intake manifold right before the forks that go from 2 tubes to 4 at the head. Maybe I just need to replace the O2 sensor then, I tried scrapping some of the carbon build up off when I had my motor apart. Maybe I did more damage than good...junk.

  3. I put my timing shaft in one tooth BTDC for the distributor/oil pump and then being too lazy to take it all apart again. Naturally I took a die-grinder to the dist. housing adjustment slots to get the amount of adjustment needed to compensate for my mistake. But now I'm concerned that somehow I've affected the fuel system of something because my pathy is chugging a bit at low RPM and loosing power on the highway. Any ideas?

  4. thanks for all the feedback! I didn't even know about the Heli-coils. I was originally going to use those solid piece inserts with the lock pins you have to hammer in. Now to head down to NAPA, PartSource or Autovalue and try to find them.

p.s. just to clarify, I'm not heli-coiling my headbolt, just the rockershaft bracket bolts on the six holes closest to the rear of the motor.

  5. So I blew a head gasket a month ago and two weeks after I got it all back together I break my rocker arm assembly. It seems my chain tensioner slipped a couple notches and created some seriour tension on my rocker shaft brackets via the cam and pulled the bolts right out of the head on the last three brackets. Turned my truck into a two cylinder as it's a Z24. I don't wanna take the head off again so I was wondering if I could get around that by either drill and tapping the holes and using thread inserts or just using different bolts and foregoing the inserts altogether. Any input?

  6. My pathy has approx 366,000 miles (586,000kms) I just blew a head gasket and have only owned it for about 10 months. besides the head gasket i've only had to change the thremostat and the front driveshaft....oh ya I had to replace the passenger side front corner cause it was smushed before it was brought to the auto wrecker I bought it from. besides the rad everything else was cosmetic.

  7. if you were motivated enough you could figure out a way to run a splitter on the spark plug wires and have dual simultaneously firing spark plugs. i don't know if it would be worth the trouble or not but it would definitely be cool.

That twin spark idea sounds cool, I'll have to look into that. It doesn't seem like there are many fans of the old Z24, it's too bad, mine has 584,000km's on it now and it's still going pretty good.

  8. I have been looking for a 91 4x4 4cyl 5spd and i have found one for $2800, great cond. 1 owner, no accidents, no rust. the bad is 222,000 mi. on the clock, these are getting very hard to find out here in los Angeles, you think $2800 is a good deal or to steep??

I got mine for $530 from a wrecker. It was in an accident but they included anyparts I needed to get it on the road in the deal. The clock is showing 583,00km's might be a contributing factor but it's still strong enough for brake stands with my 31's

  9. Hey, I'm Mike (of mennonite ancestry) I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I just bought my first Nissan ,my first truck-class vehicle and my first 4x4, all in one neat little package. It's an '87 Pathfinder 2dr with the Z24/5-speed. I got it from a wrecker with 580,000kilometers and a mashed passenger front corner. I should have taken before and after pictures 'cuz it's pretty straight now, with the help of my father-in-law. Still need to paint it and finish the tune-up on it, including oil change in the tranny, t-case and diffs. I'm contemplating a 2-3" lift via torsion crank and Jeep Grand Cherokee coils. I might be getting my hands on some aftermarket 15" aluminum split rims off a Isuzu Rodeo possibly with tires, it they don't fit on the guy's jeep. Well that's my story hoping this take me snowboarding and back a few times this year. Later!

  10. I bought my Pathy from a wrecker with 580,000km's. Fixed the munch passenger side corner. And now I want to change the oil for the t-case, tranny and diffs. I don't have a manual, what kind and vicosity of oil goes in the t-case, tranny and diffs?

    Clearly a rookie
