  1. I picked up a 2001 Infiniti QX4 and am looking for tips on what to look for in terms of maintenance and upgrading for offroading. This is my second QX4 (previous was a 2000 with the 3.0 that I trashed off road. Seriously. Picture being stuck in a lake bed for 8 hours in August in FL. Plus more.) and my 3rd Pathfinder overall counting my old R51 with 2" of lift on 33's. I can say I am pleasantly surprised by the 3.5 in this vehicle as compared to the 4.0. It's not the same, but it's very enjoyable. My biggest questions is, what should I be on the look out for? Currently, I have a rear main seal leak and another oil leak to track down. The passenger HID does not work, even with new bulbs. I haven't diagnosed the ballast with a mulitmeter yet, but I am almost positive it's Headlamp Battery Saving Control Unit that's creating an issue based off of the symptoms. I am also getting a burning/ rubber smell occasionally. My work keeps me busy enough I haven't had time to really dig into the issues yet (owned for 3 days). Everything else is in fantastic condition. As far as future lift is concerned, I will be piecing together and welding my own sub frame drop and rear lift. I am on the fence for WJ coils or AC coils and spacers for the rear. I am looking to run 285/75r16 Maxxis Bighorns / Buckshot II on 4.5 inches of lift. I may try to build my own coilovers out of Bilstein 5100's for the front and use matching shocks for the rear. Next option is KYB shocks and spacers. I have a Warn 10k winch already and would like to run it as well. Looking for thoughts, tips, and tricks for the 3.5 LE / QX4's. First priority is maintenance issues then lift. Otherwise, glad to be here and look forward to hearing from you guys.
