  1. What’s your thoughts and any info would be great!

I’m wanting to park my car up and start to rebuild the engine or have a changeover to the engine.

I would love to keep my my beast it’s a 2002 Pathfinder Ti Vg33e engine !

I’m looking for ideas on engines and what can fit inside. My fuel is a bit heavy as you would know if you had one. But now with towing a boat it’s hurting when I do long distance.

Is there any 4 cylinder Turbo D’s out there which I can fit to my Pathfinder ?

If so what’s the pro’s and cons of the changeover?

  2. I was changing the oil in my car today and noticed the brackets on this line aren't attached to anything.  I couldn't find out where they go?  Can anyone take a photo of theirs and show me how it should be?

There just a bracket to stabilise that pipe what it’s on think it’s trans fluid running through . They bolt on with the Trans Pan bolts .

  3. i have a Pathfinder 2002 with vg33e does it has a water control valve?

Don't think there is mate, I've got the 2002 Vg33e and haven't come across it failing yet if there was one lol , just the water pump and thermostat I'm thinking .

  4. I keep my compressor in the rear cubby. Too much salt on the winter roads for me to feel ok about an external mount. Already have to combat rust elsewhere on the truck regularly so I put it inside and havent had any issues. Also is in a great position for inflating camp gear like our air mattress and river rafts. I run a 5 way manifold with gauge that can simultaneously inflates all 4 tires. Its a bit of hose but all fits well in my recovery gear tote. Tire specific lengths with quick disconnects allows me to sit in the warm, dry truck and monitor PSI when its cold and wet out which is most of the time here.

Good location for it I installed mine there a few months back I ended up cutting the lining a little and tucking it up on the wheel arch so I could keep all my air gear inside out of the way. I learnt the hard way with my compressor and fired it up for a while with my engine turned off and it killed the battery fairly quickly . 93e966cf3c837c157219dd1608a80b20.jpg

  5. My oil light flashes off and on sometimes when I am sitting and idling. It still seems to be running fine though. Should I be concerned about this, and what is a better option than taking it to Nissan and possibly have them bend me over?

I wouldn't drive it until you get it checked sounds like it's something to do with your oil pump , mine was lit up like a Christmas tree and I had a 2 klms to go till home it stalled on me and I ended up with a new engine the following week. Could be a small thing atm maybe just a connection.

  6. What did you use to separate the ball joint on the steering arm? I've been needing to change my steering rack boots. Harbor Freight has several options. I haven't figured out which one would work best.

I didn't separate the balljoint on the steering arm I cracked the nut on the arm and backed it all the way out but made sure I got it close to the same position. Counted the thread starting from the inside.

I still need to get a proper balance and get my camber checked after I greased up my wheel bearings and had one side which was sloppy.

I had a post on here about a wobble in the front of my car not long ago I changed over my front sway bar bushes which helped but still had a knock when I steer full turn especially up the driveway or over bumps. Greased up the wheel bearings and installed them back in and solved it.

  7. No worries and good luck with it! You're thinking the noise you were hearing was from the diffs, then?

Yeah the noise is still there :(

But it's quieter in the rear diff but i want the noise gone .

The auto switch is something to do with my Transfer gear I'm thinkin and I'm going to get a check up on Drive tomorrow see if I can sort this all out .

  8. I had some spare time today so I thought I'd get to my seat troubles to tide me over till I either get another seat base or just sell the car

My back isn't doing to well with my drivers seat and I had my partner drive the car and I sat in the passenger seat and I could notice the difference I've trashed my drivers seat the sponge is gone plus the leather is just wearing out I need new leather

So for now I swapped the seats over and it worked but it was a bit of a pain you have to pull all the copper wire pins out and pull the trim off plus the sponge ,

they have made it hard for you to just swap them by welding the fix bolts in different places .

So if your seat is a bit warn out and you want comfort again maybe swap the seat bases over took about 40 mins but worth the time. 0ac0e6160fef115e34fb7fca73649318.jpg

  9. I don't know the ATX14A but I don't think it's supposed to mind that sort of thing. My understanding is that it's like the transfer in a modern AWD car or crossover, and it just monitors the front and rear wheel speeds to see if the rears are slipping and engages a wet clutch to send power to the front wheels if they do. It's not like driving around in 4HI. Even if you did somehow manage to roast the clutches inside, I don't see how that would've eaten a bearing.

I'd check fluid level and condition. Maybe a seal went bad and enough fluid escaped to starve that bearing? If it did, I'd expect more problems, given that the unit is hydraulically operated with a pump and a filter and everything. Unless you're up for a challenge, maybe see what the local wrecking yard wants for one.

I changed my front and rear diff fluid today and put some Nulon G70 . Looked like I didn't have the full amount of rear diff fluid in and the front was very runny like it had normal engine oil changed it and put some Premium oil in and it sounds much better with the rear diff hum noise is much quieter now thank god.

I've bought some Transfer fluid and a front rear Uni Joint aswell today so I can change that over the rear has got a little wobble but I reckon it's still in tolerance I'll change it over just to be sure it's not damaging the transfer unit bearings - I couldn't crack the nut to fill the transfer fluid lol it's a tough one

Might just be the fluids I'll get these done in a few weeks but I'll just keep an eye out I reckon it's sorted

I just went for a drive on the highway up to about 90 km/hr on the auto and it seems better.

Thanks for your input on this it's helping me get my drive back to prime again

  10. That sucks. Hopefully it's an easy fix once you get it apart and it hasn't chewed anything else up.

Hope so if you had it running in auto mode just driving around would that damage it . I've been going in between 2wd and Auto on the open highway and even towing on auto I reckon . I'm thinking I've damaged it in some way .

  11. The exploded diagram you have there is the TX10A, which is the manual box (shifter sticks up through the floor). If yours has an Auto mode (with the heater-knob looking selector on the dash), you have the ATX14A, which is a different beast. The correct diagram should be in the same section of the service manual.

I've heard of a few people taking these apart for various reasons but I don't think I've seen a writeup. Seems like they tend to hold up pretty well. Are you sure it's the output shaft on the transfer that's sloppy and not the driveshaft's rear U joint?

might be the front shaft uni joint maybe but I'll have to take it out to check it's not sloppy on the drive though only seems on the inside of the unit

  12. Good work! Had a slight noise from the rear on my 96, and the LSD wasn't working very well at all. I changed the rear diff fluid, it got a bit quieter and the LSD got a bit tighter, changed it out again when I did the next 2 oil changes. After a good thorough flush like that, it was nice and quiet and the LSD worked as it should. Worth a shot before tearing it apart.

Ok cool Yea I might give the oil change a go I reckon my mate said put some nulon G70 with the rest of the diff oil to fill it and see if it helps it .

My Drives done 300on the clock now it's starting to show its age haha , but I must say I don't do that much maintenance on it. I've already had another engine changed over in it due to my stupidity in cooking the engine with little water and then having no oil in it the second time Should give my Drive a little more respect at times .

Some of the Pathfinders on here are getting kitted out and there looking sweet , wish they would have more Auto shops over with the car parts so cheap so I could maintain it properly. It's very pricey for parts around here or shipping is more than the part lol

Sometimes you have to go through The main brand dealer for certain parts and it's twice as much.

I'll give the oil change a go :)

  13. Ok guys so I need your help and guidance.

When I put my 2002 Pathfinder in Auto and drive on the highway at high speed my front shaft seems to be playing up I reckon .

I switch it back to 2wd and it goes away .

I hopped under the car and the I can wobble the rear of the front shaft a little and it seems to be in the transfer case of it . Would that be my front and rear bearings? Would it be a hard fix ? And would I need specific tools or can I get away with normal tools .

Here's the diagram it seems to be a bolt and a few bearings any one overhauled it before? c9377d99a2e977eeba7c8a3981747949.jpg

  14. Hey guys haven't posted much for a while but found some time for my 2002 Pathfinder Ti this weekend and did a replacement on my rotors and New dust boot covers for the steering rack as one was split so changed them both .

Wasn't that difficult task it helped with a little steering issue I had when full turn pulling into the driveway I had a little sound coming from the front somewhere , I reckon my front wheel bearings needed a good grease and a tad tighter .

Left my brakes on as they were fine but my rotors needed replacing, just gave it all a good grease up around the area it was getting a little rusty from the seawater.

Steering boots were easy to install just crack one bolt and I reckon it was a 13mm to spin the rod out of the joint connection, gave it a grease and zipped on the new boots. Should last me my life of the car now .

    Here's a couple of pics .

Next job I want to try on the car is the rear diff I'm getting a humm coming from it when I accelerate and I've had it since I bought it any one else have this happen pls feel free to let me know what you think it might be

  15. Hey people just asking to see if anyone has the Manual for my Pathy it's somewhere in here !

I reckon my clutch on my aircon is on it's way out. 2002 Pathy . Just need some info on the system any help would be great

  16. This is my first experience with Nissan A/T.

On my way home on flat road, under light to normal acceleration it shifted at about the 4K mark, maybe 4300, it sounded like it was higher than that but I'm used to my 96s M/T.

On the highway doing about 60~65 it was running about 3500~3750RPMs.

I hit the O/D button a couple times and it didn't shift down, seemed to me that it never went into O/D.

Can someone who runs an A/T chime in here and give your shift points and highway Rpms.

I'll check my gear ratio in the morning, I know that will make a difference along with tire size.

    Thanks guys!

Just thought I'd listen into this topic , I've got an A/T transmission which isn't right atm with my O/D button , it's seems to be working but my Rpms can be high aswell . I feel safer pressing the 0/D on button just to drop another gear so it doesn't seem to feel struggling at about 80km/hr .

On the highway 12o km/hr my o2 Pathfinder sits about 2500 rpm that's with overdrive my car is feeling better with the O/D on .

  17. Why does it sound so bad now

If the rubber Boots wear out and split they get at little dirt in the CV and wears the bearings out quicker .I've just replaced mine over and had a bit of a knocking sound when I steer full lock in reverse. Fixed the problem and also a rocking sound going over bumps that was the front sway bushes .

Have you checked your front sway bar bushes to see how much play is in that. They should be worn if you haven't changed them yet .

To check ! Grab your front sway bar and see if it moves a fair bit if so change the bushes over. Easy to do yourself plus the CVs.

  18. Thanks mate took it for a 6hr drive today down to the beach and through the hills it's running ok but I have a slight rocking in the front end which might be the sway bushes or lower control arm bush not sure yet . Few little problem which I have to sort out . But it gets me to my favorite spots still 6f8d9f61f28f2f4c54ef183a1726f065.jpg

Excellent and it's all done - it didn't take to long at all about 30 mins per side and the vid was great ;) used a rattle gun to get the bolts off and a few pics in for ya -- Easy Job to do yourself aswell .

I needed rear tyres for my drive so I ended up switching my front tyres to the rear and New on the front with an alignment just in case .

Thanks for your comments they all helped greatly I'm back on the Rd with new CV's

Next Job soon might be my Rear Diff Bearing lol I'll keep you posted if I do this myself.

  20. So here goes another maintenance job on my Pathy . I'm going to install my Cv's both sides in a couple of weeks. I've got the new springs in which is giving my 2002 Pathfinder around a 40mm lift from standard now.

If you spot me any info on the do's and donts it would be great to hear from you .

I'm sure it will be a learning curve for me as I've never had to do a changeover before.
