  1. Hello there, gentlemen, So, I need a little help/advice. I think I know the next step I need to take, but I thought I'd check in with you guys and see if you have any ideas. My '98 has been throwing a couple of different EVAP codes for close to a year now and I've finally gotten fed up enough to do something about it. I've gone in periodically and had the codes read to make sure it's still the same problem, and I've gotten a couple different codes: 1440, and 1447. Currently, it's been only showing the 1440. Now, I know that the most common cause of a 1440 is the gas cap. And I know if it's throwing 1447 that I need to replace the charcoal canister and valve(s) and blow out the lines. So, last week I went ahead and purchased a new gas cap (figured I'd start with the cheap fix) and went to AutoZone and had the code cleared. I have not made it back in yet to get the code read again (it just came back yesterday), but I'm pretty sure it's going to be the same one (1440). Here's my question: if it is the 1440 code, should I still proceed with replacing my canister and blowing out my lines? I know it would be pretty cut-and-dried if it throws a 1447 code, but what about a 1440? I don't mind doing all this (I've already purchased all the necessary parts), I just wanted some more experienced advice on whether the charcoal canister problem can cause the 1440 code to show up. Thanks (in advance) for the help.... :-) PathyGirl
