nvm i got it! right before i sacrificed the 6th puppy to the car gods it hit me! i slipped a ratcheting combo wrench behind the intake manifold with at rope tied to it. Then i was able to get enough oomph to break the bolt loose. should be ready to pull tomorrow!! **No puppies were actually injured during or in relation to the removal of bolts**

I'm about to strap a bomb to my pathy and be done with it! Anyone have any tips or secrets to getting at the bolts to separate the engine from the tranny? I might be getting a little frustrated with it....

Mine is tied to the side now and seems to be fine. i removed the air box and set the compressor in it's place.

Ok good! I have only driven this car for a few blocks but the PO was a teenager so who knows how badly he treated this transmission. Glad to hear that this amount of metal is not necessarily a bad thing. Thanks!!

I've heard of people trying to just unbolt the compressor and move it out of the way and having lines break or slip causing the refrigerant to get out anyway. I suppose I will call around a little and see if anyone can come to me to do it. If not then I will try to just gently move the compressor out of the way. If it springs a leak then I GTFO and ventilate the garage for a while I guess.

My truck is torn apart in preparation for an engine pull but the refrigerant has not been discharged. How can i discharge it myself? I know it's recommended to get it done professionally but is this something i can just let vent in a well ventilated area and keep working once it has had time to clear?

I drained my manual transmission. Last I knew, transmission fluid was pinkish or redish but this stuff looked like motor oil! Also checked out the magnetic drain plug and I'm not really sure how much metal is too much. Before: After: I'm in the progress of pulling the engine and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to rebuild the transmission while I'm tearing into the truck or let it be till it fails. The little bit that I drove the truck it seemed like it shifted fine. Truck has 211,000 miles on it and for all i know this could still be the transmission from assembly in japan.

Is there an amp for the speakers or is it just the head unit driving them? check all the connections at the back of your head unit? double and triple check all your connections, even the ones that you created adding new wire and the connections at the speakers. ANY shorting will mess things up. Make 100% sure that you don't have any wiring grounded. This can be a painful process.

So I'm getting everything ready to pull the engine. The hayne's manual says to drain the engine block coolant but because of where the drain screws are it looks like it'll make a huge mess. Is this something that i can wait on and just do it once the engine is out so i can get a catch pan under it? If not, has anyone else done this without making a mess? how?

Wow... we use pigmat at work all the time and i didnt even think about it... DUH lol i ended up picking up some galvanized drip trays for now and will use moving blankets when i need to be under the vehicle. With that and a bag of kitty litter near by, I think i should be good to go. Thanks!

I'm renting a place with a garage. I do all the work on my truck in said garage but I'm worried about trashing the cement floor and the landlord getting pissed. Does anyone know of a durable leak proof/resistant drop cloth? I'm pretty cautious but spills happen and I just need something to keep stuff from getting sucked up by the cement before I can throw some cat litter on it.
