hmm that's news to me... i thought only se had an lsd... how does the durability of a 5spd and auto tranny compare?
-
theres plenty of xe-v6s for sale around here, but im lookin for the se for the limited slip diff, traffic here typically isnt bad, and i really enjoyed driving a 5spd, so most likely thats what i'll try to buy.
-
i prefer manual, for reasons i cant really explain haha
i hear some people say that manuals are better off road, but i've never heard them back it up as to why..
-
fuel economy isn't really that big of a deal, it certainly wasnt as bad as my ram 1500 hemi (13...on the epa's ratings....)
i guess its more of a question of what works better off road between an auto or manual tranny
-
well it's been a while since i've been around here, last summer i wrecked my pathy when it slid off the road in a monsoon...late july weather in texas sucks sometimes...
any how i'm starting to look for a new pathy, my previous was an 88 xe-v6 5spd, i was curious to hear people's opinions on the advantages between 4cy and 6 as far as hp and gas mileage goes (oil just hit 103 a barrel yest... ), namely, is the sacrifice of power mostly negligible with trail performance vs gas mileage gained... as well as auto vs. 5 spd, and 2 door vs 4 to help me figure out what's the best rig i should get, so any input would be awesome.

i pulled the terminal things off the ECU and brushed them up a bit, got all the dirt out, and its been (strangely) running fine since, although i anticipate the problem recurring. ill check out the distributor stuff though
-
so my pathys been having problems when i accelerate...it'll surge and @!*% when i give it gas, especially, it seems, in second gear. put the ECU in mode 3, and pulled code 11, crankshaft angle sensor, so i put it on mode 5 to do live test to see if it was messing up, and i got nothing, and now on mode 3 i got 55...no malfunction, but its still acting up. i passed tests on all the other modes....any ideas? im thinkin maybe the ECU is busted or somethin but i really have no idea

Well as it says in the title, my engine wont ide and i'm tired of throwing money at it. My problem is if i just start it, it dies. now if i start it and hold it at 2500 rpm till just a couple seconds after the fan clutch kicks out, it will do ok... for a while. then after you have been driving long enough to get the engine up to running temp, then say you pull up to stop at a light or you have to slow to turn a corner, it will die. once its warm if you let it drop below 750rpm. dead. put in P or N and restart.
I have replaced:
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump
Ignition Distributor
Inanition Coil & Module
Throttle body Base Gaskets& Heater
Ignition Wires
O2 Sensor
Injectors
Spark plugs
Throttle Positioning Sensor
Any and all info you can provide would be great!
PLEASE HELP! thank you
i'm having the exact same problem, so make sure to post if you find anything

naw havent lifted it...at least not yet

I have a flowmaster cat back on mine that I am quie happy with. mws is dead right about the pipe diameter.
I have to ask, were you pushing DOWN on the shifter when going from 4wh to 4wl? It is required. There is a shifting thread around here, I'll look for it.

I think this is it, but there are a few. Let me know.

ha, thats actually news to me... tomorrow i'll look into how much im going to have to put down for the muffler, any ideas on the cost? im guessing around 100? anyways thanks a lot for your help guys

Well, got the speedo done today, so yay for me lol
still gotta get the muffler done and figure out the deal w/ the 4x4

Warped needle is not uncommon in really hot places. When it gets really hot, the plastic tends to warp and the needle bends backward and the tip drags on the face of the gauge.
I removed the instrument cluster, then the clear cover, and then used a heat gun to (very carefully) soften the plastic just enough to bend back forward.
i havent got a heat gun, but i can easily pick one up but...will a hair dryer work? or is it too risky?
-
my speedo needle is warped and scrapes along the instrument cluster, always sticking between 30 and 70, i seached for a fix but most everything is about needles that arent working period.
also, when i first got the pathy, it used to make a winding/grinding noise in the front before "clunking" into place, and i have no idea why, i assume the hubs are screwed up, but hopefully not the transfer case..or diffy...any way, my step dad took it to a shop and they just told me "not to use the 4x4" without being specific as to why, which really pissed me off, so any ideas or suggestions would be awesome.EDIT: also, back when i still used the 4x4 i couldn't shift into 4 lo, only 4 hi, so im assuming im either stupid or the t-case is shot...hopefully im just stupid and missing something
Also it's time to get inspected and i have a MASSIVE hole in the muffler, so i am curious as to how hard of a fix it'l be since im sure i could do it myself, but maybe it isnt worth it and it'd be better to just pay a grease monkey to do it? any help there would be great too
thanks guys!
I'm hoping to get some pics taken of the pathy, get em sent in w/ the 10 bucks and join up w/ NPORA, i'd love some decals and maybe even a "trail rated my a$$" decal as mentioned in a jeep thread i read somewhere...

Im 18 years old live in El Paso, TX, and i just registered today my pathy is an 88 XE-V6 with a TON of miles...still runs great though. My mom drove a 70 Cutlass when she was my age and always talks about how she regrets getting rid of her first car she had so many good times in, and i don't want to fall into that trap later. I admit that i'm definatly a MOPAR guy ( i used to have a ram 1500 HEMI ) but with that said, i love my pathy, and i want to make it into the most badass rig in town! I've learned already how this thing is tougher than hell and i'm looking to lift 'er up and get some bigger tires on her.
Right now my speedometer needle is warped tho, so any tips for a quick fix would be awesome! anyways, i think the site and board are top-notch and i hope i can contribute to it
