  1. The main reason why I didn't want to use the 94 pathfinder is it'll need a lot of work to make it roadworthy plus the body is pretty rough. My 88 Pathfinders body is immaculate and has had a really easy life. The one con with the 88 is the motor, the 94 has a list of things to get it back on the road. The guy that had it before me didn't really treat it with much love. Trust me I'm tempted to make the 94 work, better motor, duel/fuel with a 90 liter gas tank, power windows, central locking but I think I'd rather a straight body over creature comforts.
  2. Hey everyone, I'm currently driving a 1988 Pathfinder with a z24 motor which is slowly dying which runs on dedicated LPG/propane. Because the motor is dying I had been searching for another motor so I eventually stumbled across a 1994 Pathfinder with a vg30e on duel fuel. I bought it straight away because it has a heap of accessories and the price was very reasonable. My main questions are what difficulties lye ahead with the conversion? Research has told be that I'll need to use the vg30e gearbox because the bell housing will be completely different and that the wiring could be a headache. Another question is will I be able to use the clutch from the z24 on the vg30e? Has anyone done this conversion before? If so what issues might I face and are there any detailed guides on this particular conversion? I know some people will read this and wonder why I bought it without all the research but if I didn't buy it as quickly as I did than I would of missed out and any pathfinder under $1000 (I paid $800) that runs, has roof racks, alloy bull bar, 2 inch lift kit, old man emu springs and duel fuel normally gets sold within a day or two. I also apologize to admin because I know this is a topic that has been asked a lot but I had a few extra questions. Thanks to anyone giving advice in advance.
  3. Thanks for the reply's everyone. I really do like the idea of the vg30 with a carburetor but in Australia vg30s are really hard to find especially from pathfinders and navaras. Since I don't have a great deal of money to spend I it's probably wiser to just get another z24 but I'm concerned it's going to happen again. It's also interesting Precise1 that your friend had the same issue, I'd love to know what he ended up doing.
  4. Hey everyone, my current z24 is slowly and surely dying. Basically the 3rd cylinder is letting oil from somewhere and a number of mechanics have looked at it and given me their opinions, one mechanic thought it was likely a piston ring and another thought it was the valve stem seals. Since the valve stem seals were a lot cheaper to replace I changed those first which seemed to work but after about a week and half of driving the car is still rapidly burning through oil. Firstly 3rd cylinder keeps burning out spark plugs, like I mean they look like they've had a day in hell after only a couple weeks of normal driving and the other major issue is the bottom end is struggling to make the pressure to push the oil from the sump into the head. Today I was driving around town and when I got home I checked the oil, it looked okay because it hadn't burnt to much but when I removed the oil cap a bit of smoke was coming out. So if I want to do the piston rings I'm looking at around $1000 so an engine swap makes sense. I would be happy to replace it with a z24 but in Geelong, Australia they are pretty hard to find and they aren't cheap, another option is to possibly convert it to a KA24, vg30 or an SR20. The main issue I'll have with a conversion is my pathy runs on dedicated LPG/propane through an impco carburetor. This means if I want it to run on fuel injection it'll cost me another $500-$1000 to get the LPG computer, chips etc. So another question is could you convert any of these motors to run through a carburetor? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
