  1. I'm closing in on 300,000 in my 1997 Pathfinder (aka Ol' Nellie). Can anyone recommend a good (and inexpensive) timing belt replacement kit? Something with the belt, water pump, tensioner & spring, gaskets, etc. A quick Google search finds dozens of kits and *lots* of different pricing. I'm hoping someone has been down this road before and can provide some advice.

    Thanks,

  2. Ahh, you're right. Pretty easy to remove the instrument cluster. I took a look but didn't see anything obvious (no cracks or broken connections that I could see).

Any other ideas? Where are the connections made on the other end?

  4. 1997 Pathfinder LE with 287K miles....

Runs great, but last week my tach has been behaving erratically. It will jump around like crazy, regardless of how hard I'm revving the engine. In fact, with the engine off and the key in ACC position, it will jump around like crazy. But sometimes, it works fine.

I did some searching and it seems like there might be a loose connection somewhere... if I lightly tap the instrument cluster or dash, the tach will react.

I'd love it if someone could post a pic or give me explicit instructions of what to look for...

    • At the distributor (Isn't that where the tach connects?)
    • What should I be looking for at the fused connections at the battery (isn't that where it draws power?)

I really don't want to take apart the dash, is there a simpler way to get at the back-side connections?

This forum helped me (easily) fix my cruise control issue and I'm hoping for another win!

    Thanks

  5. The cruise control brake switch? There is a rubber plug on the brake pedal that likes to fall apart and out. Can replace the plug, or tape n glue pennies in its place. What I had to do to mine.

Maybe... it seems ok to me, but I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for. Can you post a picture of the pedal and switch?

  7. It should be #12 (7.5amp) so second column, 3rd row for the fuse. try replacing that first.

Nope, fuse looks fine -- not blown. Interesting enough, it is marked as ELEC IGN (which must be Japanese for "Cruise Control" eh?).

Thanks for the Electical Control manual (though I'm not sure it will help me very much).

The ASCD pump seems intact -- there's no disconnected plugs

The ASCD Inhibit relay seems OK (although I don't know if I could tell what a "bad" one looks like).

Is there anything a complete novice can try?

  8. Cruise control on my 1997 LE stopped working yesterday. When I last used it (about a week ago, it worked fine).

The rocker switch does *not* light up when I turn it on.

The CRUISE light does *not* light up on my instrument cluster.

Clicking SET or ACCELERATE does nothing.

I thought it was a simple fuse... but for the life of me (I'm *NOT* a gear head) I could not find any fuse labeled "CRUISE CONTROL" in any of the fuse boxes.

Any ideas on where to start looking? Hopefully this is an easy fix?
