Are you sure the trans donor was an '06? I thought those only fit up to '04.
It was sold to me as an '06. I'd have to look up the old thread where it listed through '06

I swapped out my 93 for a 06 Xterra trans. No issues over the past two years and 25k miles.

Daily driver w/mild off-road excursion when camping.
93 4x4 with 282K miles. Swapped the transmission out for one from a 2006 Xterra a couple of years & 25k miles ago. Have a couple of bent valves (thanks timing belt), so it's time to start thinking about a new motor.
What are my best options? I'd prefer to stay with a Nissan motor so as to not have as many potential compatibility issues. I'm thinking of rebuilding one from a junker.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Slartibartfast thanks, no flashing lights, no codes, nothing. what you talk about sounds way above my pay grade and skill level, not to mention it stresses the s#*t out of me even thinking it might be that bad......
Maybe I'd be better off just sourcing out a replacement trans, just swap it all and be done with it. Hmmmmm either way I'm looking at a chunk of $$$ out of my wallet I guess. Thanks for your help man, I appreciate it. Cheers
When mine went I bought a 2006 Xterra transmission with only 50k miles. I rebuilt it anyway and the installation went smoothly. Now I have to find a new motor...

yup exactly.
I'm planning a nice weekend project around this. Mid-late October when it's not 95 degrees with 90% humidity.
Thanks for the help guys!

Actually it started after I took a pitchfork handle and rapped on the solenoid a few times. I got frustrated with trying to figure out which of the 25 relays...
Battery is due to be replaced (it's from 4/2009). Ordered a new Optima Yellow Top from Autozone that will be here tomorrow. Will toss the pitchfork in the back...
Thanks, everyone, for the help!

Update: I have confirmed there is a clicking noise emanating from the area of the shifter when it is in park. Said clicking is absent when I moved the selector to reverse.

Thanks for the input, guys. Here's a pic of two relays I found on the left front fender.
The grey one is the starter relay?

Did you do an oil change recently? Maybe try a can of brake cleaner on the starter wires if you did? That worked for me!
Oil change about 6 weeks ago. Thanks for the reply.
Auto transmission. Just realized I didn't specify in the OP.

93 V6. No issues starting for the 1.5 yrs we've had it. Battery less than a yr old. Started fine 4 times yesterday. After work I headed out to the cigar bar. 3 hrs later I try to go home. Doors open fine with fob. Key in ignition, turn. Dash lights come on as normal. No starter. Doesn't even try. I can hear relays clicking in the console area. Headlights are bright. Have a friend hook up jumper cables just to confirm but not a juice in battery issue. Reset key fob. Try all the positions for the security switch in the console. No joy.
Any links to troubleshooting help? Searches return a ton of info but most look like rabbit holes. Thanks in advance, J.

Of course it's entirely possible I have been saying '06 by mistake for the past two years. Just turned 60
