  1. hey guys newbi stangkilla here ive been having issues with a weird sounding starter issue. i turns over but has a gawd awful grinding noise. i figure it the starter but thought hey i can ask the boys at the best site for 4x4 pathys. is it the starter or is it something else you have had experience in? i have two pathys both 89 but ones a/t and ones m/t im taking the manual apart cause it has frame damage. so my auto is going to live, i said it will live. pls any help would rule thx guys u do a great job

  2. Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like and acts like. Replacement exhaust manifolds (if needed) cost about $300 each and it costs a lot to get the studs changed at a mechanic's...they're real hard to get to on a stock Pathy, especially if any are broken.

i thought that if it keeps pace with motor its the valves and when its hot they swell stopping some ticking but as soon as u accellerate the tick returns
  3. I have a question about the exhaust manifold studs breaking thing. I think that my 94 Pathfinder has that problem. Does the ticking keep pace with the engine rev? Mine has the ticking sound when the engine is still cool and quiets down when the engine warms up. However I can only hear it when i accelerate and it ticks faster as the rev goes higher. If it is the exhaust manifold stud problem. Does anyone know how much it usually cost to repair it if you were to take it to a shop? Just so I know what kind of prices to expect. Any info would be helpful thanks.

it actually sounds like valves and not the exhaust manifold. try any valve medic first if it persists u may have to adjust the valve lash or it may be worn out springs or the valve need to be seated properly.
  4. hey guys a newbie here im 37 yrs old and im a pathy nut i own two 89 pathfinders and love em to death literally. ive a question. my truck seems to have some sort of coolant blockage, i say this because i was looking for a blown head gasket and found that all my compression test scores were rite on the mark. i know that my engine coolant temp. sensor is acting up so i pulled it and i am looking for a new one (any ideas?). starts and runs great till it builds up pressure and blew the plastic screw outta the upper rad hoses tee fitting.i was told when i bought the truck that the head gasket was blown as i said before i checked with a compression tester and all of the cylinders were no less than 150 no more the 175 180 and all were within the specs. im so confused to what is happening. help me pls i really want to drive her.
