  1. How many miles might that be of what kind of driving?

    What evactly is it doing?

The less you drive it before you figure out the issue, the better...

Do the Terranos have the same radiator cooler issue?

    B

Hmm, im not sure on miles. a few, i use it as a work vehicle, so some pretty rough 4x4'n and a fair few miles of travel in between,

the transmission sort of gets lost between gears, rather than a nice change it "slips"? As I said this is the first auto I have ever had, so its all new to me...

  2. My auto has started playing up in my Diesel Terrano. So before I go buying a new box I want to add or replace fluids in the gear box.

How do I do that? I have never worked with auto's before...

Would you advise topping up or replacing? Last time it was done at the shop was 18 months ago.

Or am I simply trying to avoid acknowledging that its stuffed?

  3. So i managed to find a newer terrano cluster in the wreckers. was too new to mount without rewiring. but i grabbed the needles off it. i had to make a sleeve for the.shaft but now i have a working speedo with cool red needles

  4. Skyline's are common where you are??? send a few over to me !! LOL, I would think any needle from an equivalent year range Nissan may work, I wouldn't even bother looking at honduhs

There are heaps of skylines here, only problem is trying to buy parts for the rear left of the car (as we are right hand drive) cause all the want to be drifters smash them into powerpoles, haha.

Sweet will keep and eye out. do you reckon they need to be a certain weight or balance?

  5. So... I had fixed my speedo the other week using the hair dryer method which was great until the sunny day yesterday where the speedo went right back to where it was before.

Now to my question... Im gunna head to the wreckers tomorrow to try find a speed needle in alright condition seeing as I know mine will just pop off without any hastles. If I cannot find the correct speedo needle, are they a generic fit? will a speedo needle of something more common and stable say a honda or a nissan skyline fit on the existing motor in the cluster?

Would love to know if you have had experience with this or if you know of any models that would fit?

If i find one I will let you know too...

  6. Generally Solid Axle Swap but the Brits say Special Air Service heheh

Ahhh thanks, yea I was imagining the special air services, and turning the pathfinder into a full on assault vehicle. which would be awesome but figured it was an unlikely scenario. haha. Glad I now know.

  7. I know, it's been done to death, but what I want to know is when does stuff like the cv's and bj's etc start to limit it?

UCA's sort the bumpstop clearance out, but what is the next thing to limit lift? Anyone know how much extra extension over stock is safe before cv's start exploding? I'm making some uca's and want to know how stupid I can go with them....

Sas may come later, jeep etc diffs aren't that plentiful over here....or at least good ones...

so.. newbie question here, what is SAS and acronym for?

  8. if your missng the clear plastic cover the wind will dance your tach needle.

slide a piece of cardboard under your spedo needle and heat it soft with a blow drier. Keep close watch of everything arround it.

let if cool for 10 min. If its still bent use thicker cardboard and try again.

Just did this the other night, works great, although my needle fell off afterwards and when I put it back on it was 10km/h out, so I went for a drive down the road at 10km/h and pushed the needle on and now its within 1km, stoked. thanks heaps!

  9. So bypass the relay altogether? I went to the store just now and brought another relay, tested all the connections and they were good, flicked the switch and "buzz" no lights, grr.... there must be a short I am missing.... possibley between the relay and the lights themselves. but I dont see how that would cause the relay to buzz? at the store it was the same price to buy a relay as it was to buy a relay wiring kit. so I brought a relay wiring kit, I might pull out the old setup and put in a new one... if that dosent work im not sure what I will do...

  10. So as the title says I have been putting spot lights in all afternoon, at first I was doing my checks and found the relay wasn't working and found the solution to that rather quickly as that the original earth terminal had been snapped off. So that was an easy fix and it was producing voltage. then I went on and mounted and wired the lights turned them on and "click click click" nothing.... So I think the old relay that was in the vehicle already had officially died, but I had a spare relay in the shed. I wired it up and with out the 12v constant from the battery its clicking happily when triggered, then I apply the 12v constant and the click seems to go away. I used the multi meter on the terminals and its producing 9v for the spot lights, which cant be near enough but the lights arn't even glowing..?

So what would you do here? Is my spare relay possibley dead too? does the sound like a short?(i have checked thoroughly but cant find any...)

  11. So Im thinking about heading out in the bog of a winter we are having in New Zealand and as it will be my first "lesuire" 4x4 experience just wondering what you guys bring for those "Uh Oh..." moments, haha.

I have had experience 4x4'ing before but always with in a short trip of a farmer with his tractor to save me if I had got stuck (which touch wood I haven't done yet)

My kit i usually have in the vehicle is, strop's, spade, fire extinguisher, gps and radio. any other recommendations

mainly asking so I can make up a kit to keep in the vehicle at all times. Keen to know what you guys have.

    Cheers,

    Tim

  12. weird issue that I can't seem to resolve that you guys may have had a similar experience. Sometimes the shift lever will lock and need the release button pushed so I can change it out of park. Its a small thing that isn't a huge problem but would be good if some one out there had a resolution...
