well the pathy starting to show her age. Im looking to getting another suv. if you could get another suv but not the same pathy you have now what would you go with. im trying to weigh the pros and cons of the few im looking at.
08-09 Pathfinder
08-09 maybe 10 Jeep Grand Cherokee or commander or Wrangler 4dr(although highly underpowered)
Toyota FJ
08 09 4 runner
any other suggestions.
Does anyone have any experiences with these and if so what are your pros and cons.

Ok as a ex ASE/ASA certified master tech i say take the hit if you ignore the problem it will only get worse ie saturate the friction plate and warp the flywheel due to clutch slipage, i say pull the tranny fix the rear main, and resuface flywheel and replace the clutch/TB/PB/ output shaft seal while your there, also check any softplugs while the tranny is out, also easier to replace any bad ex. manifold studs, i would do this repair for 600 just for the labor
Its an automatic

general condition of the car is pretty good. no visible signs of rust. everything else is in great working order. just some minor trim repairs are needed like the strips that fill the gap between the body and fender flares, but other than that its just high mileage.
-
This is coming from what I would do, given the situation, but if I had already considered selling it, I would, and just buy something different.
But if your tune has changed and you kind of want to keep it another 100k miles, then get it fixed. I think that is a very reasonable price to do so.
If it hasn't given you many problems to this point, it will probably continue to be reliable for you.
Knock on wood. The only thing major was a transmission at 135k. and the tune hasn't changed yet but may in the next few months with budget cuts at work and what not. a.k.a will i still have the job im at
-
Yeah, I would fix it if I could have for $671. I'd still love to know where you got that estimate.
I got that quote from calling around to some transmission places. They seemed to be cheaper as they are used to pulling the trannys etc.
I guess if you have a manual transmission it could possibly be leaking from there too.
Unfortunately its an automatic.
I voted for you to take the hit and fix it...but I think it always depends on what your plans are for your rig.
Were you at a point of being close to selling it? If so, maybe that changes things for your decision.
I love my 01 LE but it only has 98K on her...so I'm keeping her for at least another 100K. Point being, maybe my circumstance is too different to offer up an educated decision on your circumstance...but good luck!
BTW - what is the "can of worms" that you're worried about? (Just curious)
Yeah i was originally considering selling for a while as its high in milage and the value is going down. so i figureed trade or sell while its worth a little. Also the can of worms is just the fact that its almost 200k and once you start moving things that havent been moved befrore things could start going bad, i was just afraid that by doing so more things would start going bad like other seals, the transmission or anything and everything.
-
Ok heres the scoop. I have an 01 LE with 198,000 mi. on the clock. Ive ran mobile1 full syn. for past 5 years. I believe my rear main is the culprit as i see oil dripping from around the inspection port at the rear of the oil pan. The size of the leak is about a the size of a quarter after i park it for a day. Now I now my options are 1)Let it run with the mileage as high as it is and add some lucas and some bars stop leak. 2) Replace the seal 3)Trade/sell get a different car and have a dreaded car payment. The lowest price I have found on replacing the seal is $671 which would be about 2-3 car payments. Or if i change it would i be opening a can of worms. So now im just stirring the pathy pot and seeing what comes out.
Thanks

I was going to try to make some brackets kind of like these:
what cad program is that.

Silverstars are bright and cheap, but they fail often. My other cars have silverstars and Ive had a few burn up on me
Oem hid's with 6000k bulbs for the win
Now by oem hid are you talking about getting a hid conversion kit or did your pathy come with hid already
-
ok so i searched but couldnt find anything current. without going the full hid conversion route what are the brightest/ whitest headlight bulbs out now. for the past few years i have used the silvania silverstar ultras in my pathy and have been pleased. But as it always happens i lost my driver low beam abut have highs so its time for some new ones. any suggestions

Buy 3 qts of anything that says 70w90 or 8w90 and LSD on the bottle. No additve needed. Works in both types of diffs.
anyway there should be a little orange LSD sticker above the plug (under the dust an mud)
Is that supposed to be 8w90. isnt there a big difference between 70w90 and 8w90.
-
Well i went to advance to get some fresh gear oil for the old girl and they asked what type diff i had. I wasnt sure if it was limited slip or just a regular diff. So i didnt buy any since i know that limited slip diffs also require the additive. does anyone know how i tell and how much and what weight gear oil i should buy? i know to fill it up till it runs out fill plug, but any idea how many quarts that is i searched but found a couple differnt numbers

it sounds like a bad solenoid. especially if you can still lock and unlock with the key. but if the key doesnt work then maybe the rod that goes from the solenoid to the lock has broken or come loose. That happened to me once and i couldnt open the back hatch at all. i had to crawl into the car and try to dismantle the back cover and whatnot.
-
yeah the line out converter is the easiest choice. Now on the other hand if down the road you decide to add an aftermarket headunit be aware that no matter the Watts the headunit puts out, the built in amps in the oem bose speakers will limit your output as far as loud etc. so the best thing to do in that case is bypass it and run new speakerwire and put in new speakers. Its a true P.I.T.A to do because you have to remove all the trim etc... but its def worth it in the end and the sound quality is a hellova lot better. so just some food for thought.
-
One option will be to add a line output box i think thats what its called. but basically its a box that you splice into your speakers to give you RCA outputs that you can hook up to an amp that is hooked to the sub.

My interior is black but any color would prob due because i figure i could get some interior dye and go to town.
-
I have a stock one (in case you didn't know Nissan makes them)...
Yeah i know they make them. Ive just had problems finding one, and all the ones for sale are for that pretty penny. Plus i have single 12"sub in the back but it sits just a hair to high for a stock shade to fit in right. So i would have to get a stock one and modify it or make my own.
Ive have aftermarket tint but you can still see in. I just dont like prying eyes. I had a previous car get broken into so i guess its just extra paranoia

im thinking about doing this but wanted to find out if anyone has done it and what ideas people have
-
I live in shallotte, nc. Just let me know what you would maybe want for it and we can work something out
Thanks

does anyone know where i can get a black cargo shade for my 01 pathy. or does anyone want to sell theirs
-
if it sags a little and the springs are a little worn then check out the airlift 1000 for pathfinders. its really easy to install and works well. Fully aired up adds about 2"

basically the all the switches in the driver and passenger door and rear windows. but mainly i need the rear window switches if anything,
-
ok they detach. you just pull up on the arm rest where the switch is and its 2 screws on the bottom. so in that case let me know how much for the back 2 windows and how much it would be if i got all 4 door switches(driver master, passenger and both rear doors)
Thanks

that should be someting you should check on your rig. I won't break something for a little piece of it. So if it does detach then i will. But if not i won't.
ill check tonight

i know it has tan interior but what bout window switches for the rear doors can they be snapped out of the tan piece and go into the black and wood interior mine has. if so i def want the rear window switches

I guess what im looking for:
ability to do well offroad. I dont go wheeling alot or much like that but for when i go camping etc. as far as aftermarket im not too worried about that either I know that the wrangler has a huge aftermarket and i saw the fj has a fair amount too. however i probably would be doing much as far as lift and tires becase right now i live at the beach so not much wheeling territory. Luxury things i like just because thats what i have in my pathy. but mainly i just want leather. so dunno if that helps or not.
