  1. @Rick13, I'll definitely let you know when I get back out west. I'm still interested in doing the whole Kokopelli trail like you and some of the Co4Lo guys ran. (When I was out there ~2 yrs ago it was too hot to run solo...I'm a risk taker, but not stupid.)

I still think we need a group to head out for the GoneMoab one of these years.

  2. Ok Rick13, you and your rig just went from 'love' to 'hate' (In the "I'm jealous and hatin'" sense). I loved COpathy's rig with the sahara bumper!! It gives our rides that extra thing... I love how the truck is totally competent, stout looking, and can still get you to and from work. Absolutely gorgeous rig friend!!!

What happened to the rest of COPathy's mods & parts? bad accident?

  3. A coworker, who also off roads a lot, and I were laughing at a post someone made in a Jeep forum about toweling off his Jeep when it got wet. It digressed into a conversation about how much should you wash your ride.

So, I pose this question to you all: do you wash your Pathy? If yes, how much/often? What constitutes a wash? If no, why not? When was the last time you cleaned her up?

** For the record, I typically wash the exterior after wheeling to get the exterior cleaned up. I'll wipe out the interior from time to time, but not as I do my daily driver.

  4. I'm a fan of the roof mounted racks. I've had the trailer hitch mount type as well, and the roof mounted one gives a lot more flexibility for other options, gets the bikes out of view, keeps them safe (from grabbers & car accidents), but you do have to remember that you have bikes up there if you're going under any obstacle (parking garage, some Drive thru's). Thule makes a ton that you can use as an example, but there are knock offs for cheaper.

  5. Taking a cue from theexbrit, I think you have to position the bracket with the single bolt hole for the plate, and use the double bolt holes for the two bolts in the left corner (as in your pic). It'll require removing/replacing the existing, but that would seem to fit and be in line with the holes in the bracket. I tried to edit your pic to show what I'm thinking. (Maybe??)

  6. Very nice Capt.! I've got the same color and model (04 SE) so your choices give me a lot to look at. I'd vote fenders on, just because I like the subtle look, and love it when I catch guys doing doble takes or straining their neck once they realize that she's lifted and well suited for trails.

I too would love to see a pic of the CVs. I've been debating SFD (which is committing the rig to a whole new world) or just gaining another 1" with fleury's front and rear spacers. But I anticipate that wreaking havoc on my CVs. As it goes, I'm probably going to have to buy a new strut as my driver side is just all out of sorts.

It's always fun to watch these threads blow up when one guy's mods sit perfect and the rest of us are scrambling to keep up.

    Nicely done all around!

  7. Have any of you ever gone or thought about meeting up at the Gathering Of Nissan Enthusiasts Moab event? (http://www.gonemoab.com/)?

I drove cross country last year to take my Pathy to some of those beautiful runs in CO, UT, NV and got there the last day of this event. As you could expect, it was mostly Xterras, Frontys, and a few WD21s. I don't recall any R50/51's.

It might be fun for us all to get together out there and have a strong NPORA showing... Besides the fun of running trails and slick rock, comparing rigs, and discussing mods, it would be a blast to actually get to see a lot of your rides up close n personal. (Side benefit might be getting permission from the wives to make additional mods in the year to come.) :ph33r:

    Just throwing the idea out....

  8. Thanks for sharing the Broken Arrow vid. My wife and I were in Sedona ~6 years ago and took the Pink Jeep tour (that shows up at the first 5 seconds of video). It was in that same spot that I remember the guide going around and around a few times making everyone uncomfortable with the steep descent angle. I was loving it and cracking up! My wife kept grabbing my arm just like she does now in the Pathy. :)

    Great job seeraedave!!

  9. Good morning!

I just had a chat with the folks over at Calmini. They would be willing to put their R50 prototype bumper from back in the day into production if we can get a minimum of 25 orders together. The design and cost will be the same as the 2nd gen Xterra bumper:

Please list your name if you would be SERIOUS about this. The next step is to get deposits to Calmini once we have confirmed 25 people.

  10. Anyone know what's the approx weight of the supersliders (and/or the std. sliders)?

I can't remember precisely from the bill of lading, but I'd guess the super sliders were around 55-60 lbs. And with the extra tube steel being most of that, I could only completely guess that the regular sliders would be less than half...so maybe ~25-30 lbs each.

  11. The overall design hasn't changed from what I've seen (comparing my sliders to the ones in this thread). I put these sliders on a few months ago. Haven't had any problems. They went on pretty easily, made the trip to Moab (and other) and back. Here's a link to my blog post about the installation etc. (http://wademcnair.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/installing-rocky-road-super-sliders-on-your-nissan-pathfinder-r50/)

It's about time I made a contribution to those who've helped me make mods. :)

  12. Well I should have the truck back tomorrow afternoon after about 1500 bucks of repairs which include Struts and mounts, ball joints cv axles tie rods and an alignment. Then I just need to try and work with the body damage once I get home. Maybe its just time to take the fenders off and throw on some 37's and ditch the front bumper for something else....

Sometimes things happen just to make you upgrade. Think about how nice she'll ride once you get her back. I'll echo @AzZo: you walked away and no one's hurt. That's a good day by comparison....

  13. @NCKrawler:

hey all my dad/best friend died oct 11,2010 ive struggled figuring out what to do and tonight i had this crazy idea as it is 4:00a.m. here on the east coast my dad always wanted to retire buy an rv and travel around the U.S.A. well he retired and kept working he died at 46 never got a chance to travel ive been building my pathfinder for about a year now although its not much compared to others on this site because its my dd but when i finish i plan on taking a trip with my dad from the coast where i live in NC across america to california i plan on documenting the trip and visiting as many ohv parks as possible along the way make a youtube documentary and hopefully run into some of the guys here along the way

I just took two weeks off and did pretty much what you're suggesting. It was totally worth it and I'm glad I did it. I posted a bit about it here: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/33533-2-week-solo-cross-country-trek/.

it takes some time to figure out the major details (target cities, activities in each area, how long to stay, camp/hotel, right balance of food, gear, entertainment, communications), but the small details take care of themselves. Some basic planning questions to get you started 9you don't have to answer here, just food for thought):

    1. Solo trip or who's coming with you? --> Can shorten or extend the amount of time you need to complete the trip

    2. How long do you have (2 wks, month, 3 months)? --> Impacts how much it will cost and how much you're away from work (not earning)

    3. Do you know people in other places that you can/want to meet up with (can help with supplies, places to stay, places to go)? --> Can make things fun, possibly cheaper, but adds to having to think about their schedules, etc.

    4. What's your comfort (skill and budget) for maintenance & repair? --> helps determine how much to take with you like spare parts & tools vs. budget for savings and have a shop patch up.

I got a lot of help from this forum planning my trip, so keep posting if you decide to go....

  14. Really nice job. This gives me some food for thought too. I have the AC 2" lift that I put on in Jan. Since, I had to replace passenger side CV, and as of today, I think I'll have to fix the driver side too. I've been thinking that the tire/strut issue is stressing the CV's, so I've been trying to figure out the best approach: wheels w/ less backspace, wheel spacers, manual hubs or combination.

Part of me likes the 'stealthiness' of stock wheels... people don't take it as a competent off road vehicle, but some "black steelies" could give her a more aggressive look. (BTW, I *LOVE* the Duratracs. I should have gotten those had I given it a month's more thought.) I have the same '04 SE and don't see a lot of those in the forum, so your solution is a great one for me too.

Did you put spacers both front & rear? And, did you ever have issues with the CV's prior to the mod? Again, nicely done!!

  15. Question: So will a SFD *reduce* the CV angle or *keep* it?

I notice a lot of guys on the forum running the AC 2" and the Krypton 4" SFD...which is where I'm headed. But only if its going to keep or reduce the CV angle. I don't want to take on the challenge if its really going to mess it up in there, but my desire to run 33's is taking on epic proportions!!!
