  1. i had my son come over for me to look at it for him.

it idles fine.when cold, about 1200 rpm, once warm,900. but it will sit there and suddenly idle up high, then after about 45 seconds, idle low and choke off.

    start it back up,idles fine.

put it in revers,it goes back perfectly.

throw it in 1st gear and its like it has no power.have to ride the clucth and give it gas to about 2200-2500 rpm to get it to move and then it putters.Take off down the road,it shifts fine but feels like it just doesn't have alot of power.Going up the hill, you have to jump down in 3rd gear.

Bring it back into the yard and it runs fine in 1st around the drive and put it in neutral, idle like a new one.

we have checked gas lines, vac lines, connectors, plugs, wires etc etc.

cleaned the maf and it is idling better today than yesterday.Still runs like crap.

So,I guess next step is locating a maf for it.Not going real well either.

  2. pulled codes today, none came up

truck is struggling to stay idling

try to leave the yard and its like it has no power.

Since we have a parts truck,we have swapped out a few things but nothing helps.

Once you get her going, she runs out fine till u try to pull a hill then it bogs down and you have to downshift to get the rpm back over 2500

  3. my sons 89 4x4 truck with a v6 5 speed is idling bad and when u take off,it doesn't have any power.Once you get it going, after it warms up,it runs good.

Until you go up a hill. You have to downshift into 3rd,and the thing will take off.kinda hesitates and bucks before it catches and start to pull hard.

If you rev it,it will backfire also.

it has a magnaflow muffler with no catalytic converters on it.

a guy he knows who tinkers on vehicles said that it acted like the mass air is bad.

he does have 2 bad exhaust leaks on it.one on each side at the exhaust manifolds.

  4. I have ran across a 1989 2wd v6 5 speed pathfinder.

I knew the 1st year they came with 4 bangers and 5 speeds, ive seen a few of those.

is this a rare option or just one i have never seen before?? Kind of a usless option honestly.2wd that is.

and this is the mileage on it.

and yes, that is a 4 in front of all those numbers.lol

oy yeah,it runs.never been rebuilt and on its 3rd clutch

  5. Add your own wires.

Think that's why this thing is in the shape it is in,someone added their "own" wiring

Looks like the engine harness will need to be swapped.

  6. You have a two door MPFI truck?? lucky dog!

I'd check all the relays and fuses as crossed wires don't play nice with them.

    yes,it's a MPFI 2 door.

first wires I saw were the above wires that were touching on the wiring harness from the crank angle sensor as My1Path stated.

What fuses would I need to look for from that resulting touching of wires?

    :suicide:

  7. I will assume my 90 2 door pathfinder shares the same harness as the 4 doors up until 95?

I have some bad wiring on this 90 model and the 95 at the local pullapart is pristine except for the rear end collision.

May be easier for me to swap a full harness than trace down broken and exposed wires on this rig.

  8. that would be your crank angle sensor. without it your truck will not know when to spark and when to fire the injectors.

Fix it or replace and if nothing else is wrong you should be up and running.

it has been a few months since i got this thing and it has loose wires all over the place. But when i got ti home,I tossed in a battery and it turned over.I was going to see if i lucked out on these bare wires and hoping since i have them off each other,it might crank but i cannot remember where all of these other wires went.

the one cirled in black at least gave me power to the key and lites.pathy doesn't crank though.i can hear a slight click.

the one in yellow is from a harness and i have no idea where it went.I assumed on the POS side of the battery but it didn't hlp with the startng.

    any ideas?

  9. I am finally starting to work on this 2 door pathfinder and first thing i noticed was these wires are bare and were touching.

Engine turns over but doesn't crank. So I am searching for the cause.

Even if this isn't the cause, what do these wires go to so I can at least check on it and fix the bare wires.

    thanks guys

  10. Could be your forward main seal or your forward cam seals. or all 3. you'll need to remove your timing belt, and timing gears and inner timing covers to get to all of them. See Timing belt in the how-to section for guidance.

If its really bad I'd fix it soon, the Oil may be softening up your timing belt.

sounds expensive, might just dump it before I sink alot of money into it

  11. My question is:

What parts from the 4 doors will fit the 2 doors?interior wise that is?

I know there is no way I will find another 1990 2 door pathy to rob of parts but I also see this one isn't like my 88 pathfinder.

as you can see,the door panels are different.

the dash is the same but the HVAC controls aren't.

would a 4 door carpet fit the 2 door?

and how much of the center console do you think i am missing?I will end replacing it all i guess?

Front seats are interchangable but are the rears?

as you can see from the pics,I have alot to fix on thsi 90 model.

this is the 88 door panel

  12. You should have searched. period. Honestly...you will understand when you get to the point where you've answered these questions a billion times sooner or later...

Last time I checked... nismothunder>new guy....keep that in mind ;)

If you're having trouble getting it to run/start, check the basics of an internal combustion engine, compression, spark, fuel, air and the like before looking much further for the crazy bugs and such, if he sucked up some water, its possible there could be serious engine damage resulting in one of the above not happening.

I would have searched but you tell me what I should have searched for?

I may be new but I am not stupid and some young idiot with smart mouth.

I even took picture for reference..your welcome..I made it real easy to answer.Esp since if I searched for black nissan box on steering column wouldn't have produced much results don't you think since it was moved from under the seat?

    yeah,thought so

Truck has mud all over and in it.It was hard clay and not sunk beneath it.

It turns over but doesn't start.fuel/spark check will be done tomorow.

    Thanks alot

  13. If you bought it not running, checking out the ECM may not be a bad idea on a place to start. There are a few members who have tried the submarine modification around here. Lets just say it didnt work out too well!

    ECU is in dash.Smart guy i reckon..lol

    Move on to distributor tmrw

  14. Ok, ok, no need to get in a pissing match.

OP, what you were questioning, was not much of a SEARCH situation. There are some questions that are asked, such as, how do I lift my pathfinder?, that have been asked too many times to count. A quick search and someone may of found the answer that they needed. Your question was a bit more difficult and you would of searched for days and possibly missed it. Sometimes searching is the correct response and if it applied, it would of been a good suggestion. That way, unuseful posts dont clutter a good thread.

It makes sense that it was moved so water didnt interfere with it. Im wondering the the ECU that is under the passenger seat was moved also?

    Havn't really looked yet.

but the pathfinder stopped runnigng after the last owner was mud bogging it.

I can get it to turn over but doesn't fire up.I will have to check everything to see what may have gotten wet.

Someone I know saw him that day and said it quit a few times on him.Last time it quit was on his way home and never started back up.

And as far as the other question, not knowing what it was,how would i search for it.That is reason for picture.

Just so nismothunder understands my reasoning

  15. Could have been an A-hole and just told him too search like most people do? Least with my answer I was being a smartass and it made me laugh.

Oh well, back too being helpful.

And i would probably told you to stick it up ur a$$...just so we are clear on everything.

  16. Always with informative information! Good Job!

Anyway, it appears to the the VSS control module(keyless entry/security system). It is supposed to be mounted under the drivers seat, but maybe somewhere someone got lazy. Look at it here....post #7 shows it...

Thank you for the serious response.

I guess cause the last owner took out the carpet and was wheeling this vehicle with the windows down etc,he needed it up and out of the way of mud/water etc.
