This post got me thinking...I looked online at the pacesetter website and it seems to indicate that the headers are only for 90-95 models (I have an 88, V6, 5 speed) and before I contemplate getting some pacesetters, can anyone confirm that they'll fit my 88? Is anyone aware of any other companies that make headers for old Pathfinders? (Other than Thorley, which appear to be out of production?) Thanks everyone!

My brake light was staying on for a while, until I bumped the bizzare "interlock" button on the dash...then the brake light on the dash went out. So, yeah, that was weird, but you might see if that's it.

Well, my 88 developed some sort of issue with the timing belt (don't ask, because I haven't been able to disassemble far enough to fully diagnose yet) and the heads are coming off. My simple question is this...the head bolts....are they normal hex fasteners, or are they torx or something else odd like that? TIA!

The leak is definitely from the rear of the truck, not the front, and that's all I know right now. Top of the tank, bottom of the tank, return line, feed line? No idea. But soon I hope to have an idea! Thanks all, glad to know I can check things out without dropping the tank first.

I've got a fuel leak in my 1988, and I'm wondering if there is an access panel of some sort beneath the carpet in the back to look at the top of the tank, the fuel pump and the lines from the top, or if dropping the tank is the only way to get a peek at what exactly is leaking back there. I looked in my FSM and couldn't find any reference to a panel, but I might have been looking in the wrong place, heh. I haven't had a chance to go poking around under the carpet yet either. Any help or insight would be most appreciated! Thanks!

I drive mine because I got it for $550 off Craigslist as a winter beater, and it keeps working. Every time I drive it, it puts a smile on my face. That's what I look for in a vehicle, and it does it. I've also been able to make it better than it was when I got it, as a sort of rolling work in progress. So, for a cheap winter beater, it's turned into a part of my vehicular family that makes me smile.

I recently discovered that my alternator was not functioning correctly, so I got a replacement. Any tips or tricks or advice on how to replace them? What i'm asking, I guess, is if there are any pitfalls associated with it, or finicky parts or anything like that having to do with it. If you replaced your alternator and learned a hard lesson, I want to hear from you! Thanks in advance! It's an 88 with the 3.0 V6 BTW.

Thank you Nunya. I appreciate the info that getting the 31s will not cause me any undue difficulties. Figuring out a happy tire pressure via the chalk line test will be fine, I've got a compressor and will be able to adjust pressures easily once I do get new tires. Thanks everyone!

I know the vehicle can handle it, I'm wondering about a 10.5 inch wide tire on a 6 inch wide rim. The tirerack lists the recommended wheel width for a 31x10.5x15 tire at 7 to 9 inches. Is that just a recommendation? Or will putting a 31x10.5x15 on a 6 inch wide rim result in a tires whose tread doesn't lay flat, a tire that tries to come off the rim all the time? It's not the vehicle it's the wheels that I'm wondering about!

I want to make sure of what I'm hearing here, so please forgive me if I seem a bit pedantic in my questions. I'd rather not spend the money on tires that I can't use or won't fit well! (and, yeah, I've searched, but haven't come up with anything that directly addresses my questions) My 1988 has 3 15x6 rims and one 15x5.5. (don't ask, I picked it up cheap off craigslist, and it's a bit of a basketcase. One mis-matched rim has been the least of the weird issues the thing has had) I have been scrounging the local junk yards for two more 15x6 wheels in the same style (yeah, 5 rims, so I can have a spare). I've run across two different styles of steel rims, both styles appear to be 15x6 (but one style is available in 15x5.5, but it's not chrome, it's just grey paint, but I digress). Assuming I can find the right style of rim (so they match, got to keep up appearances!) of 15x6 inch steel wheel, will 31x10.5 tires fit on that, or am I better off not running such a wide tire, like a 30x9.5 or the 235/75s that came with it when I got it? I have to admit that I'd like to get a bigger tire if possible (the 31s) because it would simply fill out the wheel wells better, appearance wise, but if I'm just asking for trouble and annoyance in trying to make that work, I'd rather not and will just go with the biggest tires that will not be a hassle. If that's the 30x9.5s, awesome, if I'm really better off just sticking with the 235/75s, so be it. I'm just looking for some definite information on what will comfortably fit on the 15x6 inch wheels I have and not cause me problems. The beast isn't lifted (that I've seen any sign of) and I'm not interested in lifting it either. Thanks in advance to any who reply!
