  1. The white pathfinder I have in the shop right now is a '91 and as far as body, frame and interior go, it is in great shape. I'm only pulling the motor, tranny and t-case because the timing belt broke and the t-case is leaking. I didn't know the previous owner or the running history of the pathfinder, but she did say the rest of the running gear seemed fine when the timing belt broke. I did know the owner of the red '93 that I now also own, and other than the frame rusting out, he never had any problems with it. He kept up on the maintenance including water pump, timing belt, etc. So, instead of just doing the timing belt on the '91 and hoping everything else was good, I figured I'd pull the motor, tranny and t-case out and replace them with what I know are good donors out of the '93. At the same time I plan on doing all the seals, exhaust studs, clutch, and maybe lower gears for the t-case if it fits in the budget, which is pretty much nil. Right now, I'm having a little trouble getting them out in one piece without taking the whole front section of the body out, including lights, vertical and horizontal rad supports, etc. It's the top support that seems to be the hold up, as its spot welded to the rest. And yes, Precise1, that is a radial drill in the background. I'm also a machinist and I own a small machine shop that specializes more in industrial repairs than production.
  2. Hey, thanks for the welcomes! Right now, the white pathfinder is sitting on blocks in the middle of my shop. I just finished installing the three inch body lift. Both crossmembers are out as well as the torsion bars. Next, I`m going to attempt to take the motor, tranny and t-case out in one piece. This should be fun.
  3. Thanks nunya. I've got the white '91 in the shop right now. I'm just getting started pulling the motor, tranny and t case. It's too bad the original owner hadn't changed the timing belt before it broke, as this thing is in excellent shape. A little history on the '91. The lady I bought it off of was the original owner. That's right, she had it 19 years. She was crying when I was pulling away with it. It's been babied its whole life. She said she put it in 4 wheel drive a few times a year when she got caught out when it snowed. It's never seen a dirt road. Boy, this Pathfinder is in for a whole new experience!
  4. Hi all. Great site you guys have here; very informative. I've been lurking for a while and finally got around to joining. I'm new to Pathfinders, but not Nissans. I owned a 2000 Xterra for 7 years until just recently when it was wrote off after an accident. I was looking for a replacement 4X4 when a Pathfinder sort of fell in my lap. It was a 1993 with only 200,000 kms on the odometer. A friend had owned it for quite a few years, but had to take it off the road because the rear half of the frame was completely rotted out. He gave it to me so that I could maybe fix it up and use it for a bush buggy. A few weeks after I got it, I noticed in the local classifieds there was a 1991 Pathfinder for sale. The timing belt had let go and damaged to motor. It was not running but in otherwise excellent shape. It's a 1991 white se v6 four door. I bought it for a grand total of $400. It also came with a large Nissan shop manual for the same year Pathfinder, a new set of heads, and various other new parts. So here I am. I'm in the process of taking the motor, 5 speed tranny and transfer case out of the 1993 and putting it in the 1991. It's going to be a little work, but in the end I should have a pretty good Pathfinder for very little money. Thanks in advance for all the help. Whitey
