Ok so last week one of the tranny lines on my 95 pathfinder 4x4 broke it lost 5 quarts of fluid i pulled over right away nothing was acting out of normal. I took it to the shop fixed the lines and refilled it now the torque converter seems to randomly jerk and shudder when coming to a stop and the vehicle will randomly stick in 3rd gear and will not upshift or downshift but it will only do it maybe once or twice every few days... So im thinking electrical cause the Fail-Safe light flashes at start up any advice would be greatly appriecated im not looking forward to spending another $2,800 on a tranny

I got the springs But i was reading your suppossed to cut part of the pigtail off does anyone no how much and what i need to do with Sway-Away T-bars to match up the front lift height with the rear
-
Boo spacers, yay v8 JGC coils!
Alright im gonna get a set of V8 Cherokee springs but about how much to they lift and will my sway away T-bars be able to almost match the lift??
-
What about the doughnut style coil spring spacers that go in between the coil and the mount? Are there any ones that fit our rigs?
-
your gonna get a lot of but there are several options...you can get springs from calmini, JGC (jeep grand cherokee) and cut them down you could also give Steeevo from Rugged Rocks Offroad a call and i'm sure he might be able to source some rear springs and some sway away torsion bars
Thanks I already have the sway away torsion bars for 2yrs I love them! Thats why im getting new rear coils because spacing the stock ones to keep up with the cranked bars are putting my coils in severe strain i sheared off a spacer wheeling in sounded like a firecracker going off when it snapped so its defintly time to do the rear lift right

I've been looking into lifting my truck a little more than it is and i need to change the rear coil springs. Which ones would be the best for 2-3in of lift?
-
Well i went and had a dianosis done on it and it turned out to be the EGR valve. Now im wondering should i clean this one or pay the $130 for the new one They said it could be an electrical problem or it could be clogged/stuck open

I've been patching my front and rear main seals with stop leak for months now im ready to just do the complete repair timing belt water pump front and rear main seals everything. Has anyone tackled the front and rear main seal job yet? Repair time estimations or some hints on doing it

Mine was the 51 injector circut i changed the battery ground and connections and put fuel injector cleaner and octane booster haven't had problems with it again... I hope its good to go and it was just a random malfunction

Yes, you read the codes by counting the blinking lights on the ECU and then looking them up on a chart. Not the most convenient, but you don't need any tools or equipment to do it, just the code list. That is the best place to start most of the time...
B
Thanks for the help but where can i get the chart?
-
Any trouble codes stored in the ECU?
I havent checked it yet it just started doing this today. And do you mean checking it with a scanner? Or is there another way, sorry ive never had engine troubles before but its probaly something to expect at 231,000mi

Ok so today my truck started shaking severly at start up and had a very rough idle and the check engine light would light up the after about 15 seconds it would clear up light would go off and truck would be normal I really need some help with this its got me stumped i even changed the battery ground because it was almost corroded in half (the wire) i thought it could have something to do with it but apparently not...
-
How many miles are on your truck? Are you using a different weight oil or different filter? Maybe it could be a front or rear main seal or timing belt cam seal? Just throwing check points out there

Thanks for all the help guys Im waiting till the week of thanks giving so i have no school to tackle it though im gonna do the gas tank tire carrier and cruise control all in the same week so i need the full weeks time
-
Haven't done it on my pathfinder, but have on my car. It was pretty easy, I think I just put the jack under it snug, unbolted, lowered slightly wire care, watching the connections until I could get at them to undo, then lowered the rest of the way. Actually I probably went under the rear seat (would be under the trunk I guess on the truck) and disconnected some wires first. But I'm not sure how much this applies to the pathy, sorry.
Do you know of any ways to patch it still on the truck i tried the 4$ gas tank repair stuff (its junk) and JB weld the JB weld lasted about a week till the gas ate through
-
Im about to change the fuel tank on my 95 pathy does anyone know the difficulty of this or have any advice on removing/ installing the new tank? Any help would be greatly appriceated

My tire carrier has started making a rattling/shuddering noise when going down the road. So yesterday i looked at it and the bushings on the end where it swivels appear to be loose does the sound like something fixable or is there any other ways?? i dont wanna remove the tire carrier for good so i'd like to fix it then reinstall it

What about pulling the factory running boards off and fabricating custom rock sliders that adapt to the brackets? Thats what i want to do because wheeling is damaging the running boards pretty bad.. Sound like a good idea?
-
Start with a big U channel or a 2x6 box and weld bumper brackets to it. Tie some re-enforcements in further down the frame, cut out holes for the lights you want to use, cap the ends and paint it. Very simple plan others have done more and they will chime in. Or they started there an modified the plan a they went along.
Thanks ill be starting this project within the next month and will be sure to post step-by-step pictures to maybe make some plans to post

Is there any aftermarket rear bumpers for a 95 pathfinder? I've been looking and looking for one... I thought ARB made one but i guess not. If so does anyone have any plans or suggestions on building one?? I want to install LED brake reverse and turn lights in it too. Any help would be greatly apprciated I know how to weld and do metal work so if i had the plans i could easily tackle this task

Check your fuel pressure regulator vacuum line mine was puffing black smoke bad mpg's and driving poorly and it turned out the line had came off the regulator... Its right by the #6 spark plug on the back of the engine
-
i wonder if an auto has the same fill plug problem that makes the bearings on the input shaft and such go bad like my Manual??
just told they weren't so ignore that...
I fixed it. It was the fuel pressure regulator i have no idea why it affected the tranny but it did
-
Cool, that was probably one of the cheapest (and strangest) tranny fixes I have heard of.
The best place for a tranny cooler is in front of the radiator and condensor.
B
I know My only guess was the truck was getting to much fuel or something and it was messing with the tranny. So the best place for the cooler is directly behind the grille? And is there any precautions i should take and is this a complicated project? Im really good at fixing repairing customizing and modifying cars but right now i cant have a project tthat lasts more than a weekend
-
Ok, what I have heard is that when reverse fails, it is due to lack of fluid pressure since it requires the most. It is the classic failure mode for pathfinders and may be caused by the stock radiator cooler clogging and the tranny overheating/starving. If the radiator cooler is not (replaced or)* bypassed, it will happen again.
*cheaper to bypass
Moving on, did you mention any bearings being replaced? Are you certain it is coming from the tranny or could it be other drive train parts or rotational components?? I've been fooled by signs before...
B
Well the problem is fixed the fuel pressure regulator was causing it i dont know how but i fixed that and the transmisson is silent now but im still flushing the tranny and changing the fluid and i already changed the stock radiator and tranny cooler and lines but i do have a heavy duty external cooler in my room ready to be installed easy to do? Best place to mount?

fluid levels fine i can disconnect the battery long enough to reset the TCM and it drives fine until it enters Failsafe again
