  1. Im not gonna lie, Im not going to try and findy your old posts. What exactly does your rig do? Happens all the time? Hot? Cold? What all have you changed? ECU codes? No reason to give up if you have gone through all the proper steps. More info you provide, the more we can help.

it's giving me temp sensor and maf sensor .really i think i've tried everything and replace everthing

  2. So,i've had my pathfinder for over a year now and still can't solve it's problem ( see older topics) i've change every sensor including ECU checked all wires from sensors to ecu , and car still smokes black (getting to much gas).

So if i'm about to sell it parts seening that this problem can't be solved.

  3. I have this awkwardly done MAF wiring. Its one of those angled connectors piggy backed onto another one with a ground coming off the one connected to the MAF. The ground is hooked up to the intake plenum. Is this some factory remedy?

    mafwiring.jpg

    The extra ground goes here...

    mafwiring2.jpg

    Why?!

Quick ? which is ground A B or C on the maf sensor

  4. It may be the ground wire on the harness for the MAF if it's throwing a code. It's not uncommon for folks to have to run new grounds off the plug, as the one in the harness stops working.

I will try that, and the other suggestions

    on the maf sensor there are A B C A= white wire B=Black C=Black/white

C= ground if not mistaking , I should rewire that right?

  5. there is a vacuum line for the fuel pressure regulator near the #6 plug. See if it's cracked, plugged or it got knocked off the fitting.

black smoke is usually caused by too much fuel, so keep looking for problems in the fuel system

We change the vacuum line and also replaced the fuel pressure regulator :(

  6. you should try doing a compression test. also maybe different oil, injector cleaner, seafoam. Idk stuff to try that are cheap

Ok, but we also checked if the injectors a spraying ok and not leaking, (they spraying ok)

I read somewhere in here about re-learning the ECU, how do i go about doning that?

  7. I have a 95 Nissan terrano 4x4 v6

Been having problems since the day bought it, right now the pathy smokes black and hesitates when reaching 2500rpm. When in park it rev ok but a lot of black smoke and back fire throw exhaust. We check all sensor wiring to see if there no shortage and also check to see if there reaching the ECU. Checked spark plugs wire for spark( everything seems ok) Check timing( also ok) Check if maybe my timing belt jump a tooth(also Ok)

List of more things I have done so far,

    1. Took off Catalytic converter(thought it might be clogged up)

    2. Change fuel filter

    3. New knock sensor

    4. New temp sensor

    5. Cleaned injector and replaced seats

    6. Bought used maf sensor and replaced

    7. Replaced O2 with universal replacement

When we replaced knock sensor the ECU wasn’t giving this code anymore, now it’s giving me Maf Sensor, I replaced the maf sensor but the car is still running the same

I’m open for any suggestion that I haven’t tried all ready

    Thanks

  8. Ok new up date, saturday me and my friend ran all wires to si if they are not short but everthing seems ok, check the timing, check if timing belt is ok,everything checks out ok,

So we ran the codes again, gave us the maf sensor and knock sensor,so we that's it let change the knock sensor so when removing we come to find out that the hose going to the fuel pressure regulator is not connected, but we kept on going with the knock sensor replacement, ordered new gaskets for the intake frome rob, should get them next week and lets hope i get some improvement if not a problem solved :)

  9. Are you sure that it is Mode 2, not any other mode? Describe in detail, please. ECU shoud be in Mode 1 after ignition switch on.

You have 3 wires on a diagnostic check connector (large plastic thing with 2 rows of contacts, on left side, under dashboard) routed from ECU. One wire from ECU selector, two from green and red LEDs. You can check to be sure these wires are not short-circuited to something else (damaged harness). Look at 1994 FSM, pages EF&EC-8 and 9 for complete wiring diagram of ECU.

If you'll find they are shorted, you can cut them near ECM connector instead of harness repair, as a last resort. They do nothing except external diagnostic board connection. But don't be in a hurry - explore problem deeply before any repair.

After some months without any progress, finally a friend that is a mechanic dicide to let me put the pathy at his home so that we can work on it(won't sell it)

He made me a interesting question, he ask if the car has e problem and gives error codes, why does the check engine light off.(light is good, fuse is goood)

    any ideas?

  10. I believe ECU is the same, issue being auto ecu can be used in both but manual ecu doesn't work on the auto.

    92-95 parts are all interchangeable

What parts are you looking for? post it in parts wanted as some of us have parts trucks available.

I'm in the caribbean(curacao) i found a 90 path for sale for $300 and i have a 95 so thought it was a good idea to get it for spear part.but i have to make sure they will fit

  11. Which temp sensor you have recently replaced? Coolant temp sensor belonged to ECU (it has 2-contact waterproof connector), or a dasboard sensor (single-blade open contact on the head)?

If you have ECU sensor malfunction (or damaged sensor harness), air/fuel mixture ratio can be too rich.

I change the coolant temp sensor, but problem with the ecu is that it's going directly into mode 2 it's not leting me choose the otro modes to pull codes

  12. Ok here is where i stand(i'm going nuts) the pathy is getting to much gasoline, some mechanic told to change the fuel pump, (but that didn't sound logical for me so i took it some where else) Now the new mechanic is telling me it's the ecu.

i really need some advise on what to go here

  13. Code 12 (Mass Air Flow Sensor circuit) means not only MAF sensor itself, but MAF sensor wiring faults also. You have already test your MAFS (by replacement with a new one without any changes). So, you have a wiring (harness) failure...

Probably, your temp gauge harness has faulty also...

Main rule of diagnostics: don't replace "faulty" sensor before you examine sensor harness.

I'll keep that in mind for next time,i'm going to tackel that harness this wknd, gone keep you posted

  14. Okay, so, I changed my oil a week ago, and my mileage dropped like a stone... went from almost 350 miles a tank to around 275 miles a tank...

All I did was change the oil + filter, add SeaFoam to the oil (plan to change it again after 1k so it doesn't overclean due to my gaskets leaking a little), and run Lucas Injector Cleaner thru...

I'm guessing maybe the Lucas had something to do with it? I mean, I can smell gas a little bit...

Plugs/Cap/Rotor/Wires are all under 5k miles on them. No lights on the dash, and she doesn't seem to perform any different...

Run Codes see what you get, that what everybody will tell you :)

  15. I was unaware they moved them. Thanks for pointing that out so it doesn't get repeated!

I installed a new coolant temp sensor but the guage still won't work, i really think i have some harness issues

  16. Hey i'm pretty new to this forum and pretty new to nissan's but located in the edmonton area just looking for more people that love them and wanna go out and hit some trails

    Curacao netherland antilles

  17. It's a possibility. If it gives you code 11 or 13 then it is your ECU coolant temp sensor. It's located in the valley of the engine and a shop will rate it at 6.5 hours labor at whatever they charge. That sensor went out on my old '87 and it was an $850 something repair bill.

There are 2 coolant temp sensors on these trucks. I'm pretty sure that code 11 is for the gauge and code 13 is for the ECU to adjust how much fuel to dump in the engine. That sensor should read between .3-1.7 ohms. When my sensor went out it was giving the ECU 120 ohms! That effectively told it that it was -1564561564156454313245616321787651321532 degrees outside and to dump a half a tank of gas into the engine in 14 miles.

Neither of those sensors have anything to do with each other, either.

If your ECU is telling you that you have a bad MAF you may have a broken wire somewhere.

Thanks for the info, i'm going to get the help of a friend this wknd and check those wire again. btw i change the coolant temp sensor but the guage inside is still not working

  18. A few things you could check...Check the catalytic converters to see if they may be plugged (done at exhaust shop)...the exhaust could have a restriction to make engine labor...also, you could check simple stuff like air filter, thermostat, distributor...not being sarcastic, but you limited as to what you have already done to troubleshoot...

I had both converters removed same problem.i think i'm going to turn this over to a mechanic i've elimated lot of possible problems to no avail

  19. Try replacing the pcv valve? And runnig some fuel system cleaner through it? Also Try disconnecting the battery for 10 min to reset the computer after you replace the maf. could also be clogged fuel filter. simple cheap fixes hope it helps.

Thanks for the input, did do that will try later today

    thanks i'll keep you posted
