  1. All of his emergency lights were on, the ones on the top and the ones on the sides and bumpers.

there were some 10 or so red flares in the road as well.

And I had my hazzard lights on!

    Just...incredible...I am seriously flabbergasted.

  2. Wow that is intense! I'm surprised the toll booth officer didn't place his car behind yours and

have their emergencies going to alert others. At least there would be a cushion for incidents such as this.

Get some serious rest and enjoy the meds!

  3. This pathfinder is my first car and I bought it when I was two years into my first full time job after graduating. I could barely afford her with my salary: I worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Toronto and they were/are(?) very stingy with their loans (and salary!!).

Ontop of that I had to have mine special ordered from Japan: there were no Manual Transmissioned SE painted Black Emerald to be found in Canada. I had to wait three months to get it. But it was worth it! By the look of things, as the truck was built in Japan, Nissan put on JDM rack and wind deflector. I haven't seen these in my travels; I really should take some pictures of them.

The rack is quite beefy and uses a "Security" Allen key screw driver that locks down the bars. (there are two screw drivers provided in a fabric bag. nice touch!). The wind deflector is much more rounded than the flat plate looking deflectors that I see on the pathfinders sold here. Maybe I got lucky?

After 208K km, I just had the transmission bearings replaced and the whine that I had for four years is gone. The transmission feels brand new!

I just love the look of this truck!

  4. now where do we buy them in the USA?

Apparently they have a distributor over here:

    JAOS USA
11223 EAST RUSH STREET STE G SO EL MONTE CA 91733 USA
    TEL: 626-618-1008 FAX: 626-618-1005
    URL: http://www.jaos.com

And their idea of a Pathfinder has a rear ring on it!

Alas, looking around the site, there's not much Pathy love :(

  5. The squirrel did his damndest to hang on but I put up more of a fight than he could handle. His hind legs slipped off and that squirrel did three loop-de-loops around that cable with his tail streaming behind him before sailing off high into the air!

 you got me thinking of Scrat from Ice Age!!! That little guy just cracks me up every time i see him!

  6. Well, I got it. 36$ after taxes and what not.

    It doesn't seem to bad:

    Image002.jpg

With some sweat and a few choice words, I got one of the bolts off.

The bolt next to the exhaust just didn't want to come off.

So, after stuffing the receiver with a handy post sitting in some car,

I bounced the hitch till the bolt head in the frame came out:

    Image003.jpg

The square tube is in pretty good shape, very little rust blisters, however, both end mounts (what are they called?)

are just full of surface rust. It seems that someone didn't clean the metal before painting them.

I started scraping the lifted paint and sheets of it just peeled off! ah well...36$ can't complain too much!

It too bad i can't use the warranty to complain to u-haul! :-p

  7. u wont see the plates and head of the bolt in the frame but im sure u can go and get the hardwear for it. go to one of ur local stores and tell them that u need a hardwear kit for that spicific hitch. it might take a wek or so casue they may need to order it but u can get it.

Okay, there's two uhaul stores close by, i'll swing by one of them and ask. As it is, there's some rust on the hitch, and paint chips, so i'll be repainting it before i install it.

how much is the boneyard charging u for the hitch. on average our brand new ones go for like 160.

The yard's price list shows 30$. I'll update post when I actually buy it.

I noticed that the uhaul website is listing this hitch for 195$. Do the prices vary by the store?

edit: I didn't mention before: this is the class 3 hitch. Model: 75020

    cheers!

    luis...

  8. How rusty is the frame? Maybe if you jump hard enough it will break off

I would just cut it off if you can...

lol...i did!! i did jump up and down!!! :bounce: but the truck sits on top of these welded rims...not very stable!

im the hitch specialest at my store. i work for uhaul. the back bolts are carrage bolts and they were put in the frame by pull wires what more then likely happened is either the plate broke over time and allowed the bolts to spin or the plates were rounded out. only thing u can do is cut them off cause theirs nothin in the frame for them to bite anymore their just gonna keep spinning

Carrage bolts? nutz. The bolt threads are rusty but the bolt head were fine. oh well...

If go to the uhaul store, could i buy the installation kit?

I did find the installation pdf for the hitch, and that pdf shows a mounting plate inside the frame. That is /not/ what I am seeing on the truck. Also, the reinforcement brackets where still on the truck, maybe I'm looking at a different type of hitch? or may be not!

    Oh well....a cuttin' I shall go! :ar15:

    Thanks guys!

  9. So I was at my local JY looking for a trailer hitch for my '94, but I didn't see any Pathfinders there.

Then as I was about to leave, the JY guys fork lift in a 1990 Pathfinder with a U-haul hitch, which looks very clean!

Anyways, long story short, I couldn't get the last two rusted nuts off their bolt as they would twist, and then trying

to use my nut cracker, I end up shearing this tiny 2mm set screw which is used as a guide for the blade!! :headwall:

I did try jumping up and down on the hitch to try and snap the bolts.... :crossedwires:

The bolts that I'm talking about are in location items 3 & 9 in this piccy (this is from a curt mfg pdf):

    post-14686-1238728734_thumb.jpg

I intend on attacking these last two nuts tomorrow either by hack saw or the fixed nut cracker.

My question is: why is the bolts twisting? Anyone have an idea of how to lots of blood, sweat and tears?

I suppose I should go to U-Haul and buy the nuts and bolts for this thing.

As a bonus though, I got a pristine U-Haul light harness!

ps: it's amazing how fast people swarm over the cars as they are brought out...

within moments, almost anything of value disappears!

kind of reminds me of the time lapse photography of a dead carcass in the forest...

  10. What's funny is that I asked the service guy a number of years ago about hearing something like a leaf stem hitting the fan blades.

He said that he'd get the mechanic to take a look at it...I got back an estimate for $50 (or something insane like that) to replace the blower! Needless to say I didn't believe him and dealt with the noise.

So seeing this easy to do how-to, I did...man, I think I had leaves in there since '94!!

Thanks for the write up! Simplest fix ever!

  11. the single rod compressor that you got wont work, you need the set of 2 compressors that clamp on the outside of the coils (the Checker/Krager Auto near me did not have any for rental). Its the MacPherson compressor

    MacPherson Compressor

Ya, the compressor(s) that I rented do come in pairs in the box. What is interesting is that if I ask for "MacPherson Strut Compressor", they go "??? we don't have MacPhersons, we only have strut compressors...." I just ask for struct compressors now.

A friend of mine has been a mechanic for many years. I borrowed them from him.
Ah well, it was worth a shot.

    ....

But now with some news: between Liquid Wrench, and then reading that you guys use PB Blaster, plus a week to soak, the screws as now loose!:friday:

Now to work on the truck this weekend!

    luis...

  12. thanks for the replies guys!

You're looking for a spring compressor. Get the kit with 2 pieces that clamp on the outside of the springs, as the internal type won't work as well.

I've tried the spring compressor; couldn't get the rod between the coils and then struct compressors with no luck. The strut compressors that I used (autozone & kragens), the screw was too long and would always bump the mounting brackets. If I could get one that was about 8" long I may have better luck...

Alternately, I think you could take off the brakes and disconnect the e-brake cable from the brakes, that would get you some more droop if the cables are what's holding you up.

I guess I could give that a try. (I do need new brake rotors and pads...I just don't have the bucks at the moment. ).

I'll give this idea a looksee this weekend.

k9sar: Where did you get those brake clips from? I've check HF and didn't see them there.

    luis...

  13. Hi All!

I've been trying to replace my rear coils for the last week but I'm not having any success.

I've read almost everything there is to know about replacing the coils with JGC ones.

Using DamagedReality's excellent guide, I can't drop my axle far enough to get the springs to drop out: my e-brake bracket bolts are waay rusted (I came from Toronto and had the truck there for its first five years)

Perusing the 'net to find another way to remove the coils, I've found k9sar's page on using a coil retainer clip.

Now, trying to do a search on 'coil retainer clip' I get way too many hits about hold the coils to the frame and not keeping them compressed.

Does anyone know of a store which sells these things?

I've tried Pep-boys, Kragens, Autozone, Winchester Auto (San Jose) with no luck. Is these clips that deadly that they were discontinued??

    Thanks!

    luis..

ps: If you have other ideas, please let me know.
