  1. Here's a trick I use for oil filters. Take an old screwdriver and grind the tip to a point. After you drain the pan, just use a hammer with the sharpened screwdriver and punch a hole in the bottom of the filter. That way you can easily catch the thin stream of oil that comes out and the filter will be empty when you take it off.

  2. I am thinking about putting a lift kit on my '02 Pathfinder, mabye 2". Along with some nicer rubber. Roughly how much $$$ am I looking at? I realize that it depends on how far you want to go with it. All I am looking for is a ballpark figure.

BTW, I live in Alberta, Canada.

  3. During my road trip these past couple days I noticed the "service engine soon" light came on. There were no explosions, violent grinding noises, or anything like that, the light just came on. Upon reading the owners manual, I learned that this could be caused by a loose fuel filler cap, and that if you tighten the cap, the light should go out after "A few driving trips".

So how long is that? I've went through 2 tanks of gas since that and the light is still on. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, how long before the light went out?

  4. Forgive me if this question seems stupid, but what is the normal RPM for these engines at highway speed? I have a 3.5 litre engine with a 5-speed manual tranny in my 2002 pathy. At 100 km/h (60 mph), the tach reads 2500 RPM. This just seems high compared to my old 4.3 litre chevy. I took the Pathy on her Maiden voyage to Edmonton, Alberta, cruise set around 115-120 km/h, the tach was hovering around 3 grand. A friend of mine has a 2001 Mazda Tribute with a 3.5 litre engine, He says that his tach reads 2100 RPM at 110 km/h.

Is it just that these machines are geared more for low end torque? I did notice that she pulls up the hills beautifully.

  5. Mine is not the Chilkoot, I could find no decal. I have done extensive research and several resources state that Nissan only made the SE and LE models for '02. My dealer here in town says that I have the XE, and trust his word I do not. My truck has all the standard options listed for the '02 SE except the fender flares. It is also has a 5 speed manual tranny which one site says is only available on the SE model for '02. Not a big issue, but it would be nice to know for sure if I have the XE or SE model.

  6. I am having alot of trouble finding fender flares for my 2002 Pathy. The dealership told me that mine is the XE or Chilkoot model and that I am SOL. I thought for '02 there was no model below SE. Anyway, my Pathy has no fender flares on it. I've tried aftermarket and it seems that no one makes flares for a post-1999 pathy. Can anyone help me out?
