1999 R50 Security system freaking out

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Ill make this brief, Im currently deployed to Iraq and unable to assist my family whom collectively owns 3 pathfinder, an 02, 03 and 99.

My dad who lives in michigan has the 99 which recently had a sunroof leak which dumped some water down from the ceiling, he patched it up with Silicone since he never uses the sunroof.

However now his central locking will not work. whenever he leaves the car overnight the battery goes flat so he has to disconnect it. The little red security light stays on and the interior alarm constantly stays on with a continuous beep. He cant lock the doors with the remote or the button on drivers door. However the car recognizes the remote because he can set off the panic alarm and stop it with the remote. The truck starts and drives fine so immobilizer is not triggered, but he has to listen to the droning alarm the whole time he is driving and battery goes flat at work etc. Any help is sincerely appreciated since I'm in Iraq and cant directly troubleshoot the problem, His moron mechanic loves to throw parts at stuff and waste what little money he has lol.

If you put the key in the door and turn it, it should make the alarm go off. The actuator in my driver door went out awhile ago, so whenever I unlock the driver door the alarm goes off, but I can either turn the alarm off or prevent it from happening if I just unlock one of the other locks first (either the passenger door or the trunk). Have him try the key in all the locks and see if it makes the alarm turn off.

Nissan alarm systems suck, period. Marvin's fobs quit working YEARS ago, mind you, it can still be armed using the key. On the wife's Sentra, you have to be within a foot of the receiver in order for it to work. And this is AFTER the knobs at the stealership "fixed" it. Strangely enough, Goldy's 1 remaining fob still works...but for how long still remains to be seen.

Thanks for the info fellas,

It's acting really weird, the actual alarm isn't going off. It's just the constant beeping tone inside the truck along with the red security light next to the drivers left knee stuck on. It won't lock with fob or the door switches so the key is the only option to manually lock each door individually. Is there prehaps a security ecm or relay that could be causing the issues? I can't imagine the vehicle ecm would cause this with out also causing many other problems, and the truck runs fine.

Spec. Rave,

Take a look at the Theft Warning System section, starting at EL-228, of the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/manuals/Pathfinder/1999_Pathfinder/el.pdf. I'd confirm what part of the system still functions as described on EL-229, then jump down to EL-240 and EL-241 for a troubleshooting workflow and issue matrix. From there, it'll reference any other specific pages for further troubleshooting steps and actions. If it's deemed to be the Smart Entrance Control Unit, check EL-252.

Good luck!

Thank you very much hawairish. I really appreciate the advice. I'll talk my dad through the process and hopefully we can get it fixed.

Warm regards,

Honestly it may not be related directly to the alarm then, it could just be an electrical issue. I'm pretty sure that little beeping noise is just what it makes if either 1. The door is open and the key is still in, or 2. You don't have your seatbelt in. Since the problem is related to the door locks and security light, it may not be registering that the door is closed because of some sensor not working. Your problem seems really weird.
