What are the typical causes for fan clutch failure?

Hey everyone! I hope this missive finds everyone as well as possible!

My fan clutch has seized. I am going to replace it no real difficulty there so not asking about how to or what to. Just got to wondering what would cause one to break down. Thought I would ask. Make sure that I did not do anything wrong when cleaning up and finishing everything off from the timing belt change I did earlier in the year. If it was I would like to try to avoid repeating it when putting in the replacement fan clutch

Also are they something someone like me can rebuild?
