Tire size

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I know this topic has been beat to death but I am reading some seriously differing opinions. I recently fitted an OME 1.75" lift HD springs to my 02 LE and am trying to order tires tonight. I want to go a size larger than the stock 245/65/17....

Does anyone know if 265/70/17 will fit with a 1.75" lift???

Thanks, Josh452715b73e62fac56c44216b2ee4ca3b.jpgbb8f6867dc22e21bdb31a9362c482a97.jpg10b03767f53f43fc81da965f7781d6a8.jpg4f6590ae3c47a669f4366504fbe8ee2f.jpg

Rear is no problem.

Front is a potential problem. That size is 31.6" in diameter. Adding the lift makes no difference, because the limiter is the distance from the hub to the strut's spring perch which wasn't changed.

I put on 31"x10.5" tires and had about 1/4" clearance to the spring perch.

Due to small variations in actual diameter from one tire brand/model to another, it's likely that there are some 275/70x17 tires that would fit and some that wouldn't.

I think you mean 265/70R17...

I read on the NPORA Faceboo page, I guy how used Coopers 265/75R16 A/T tires, or something similar... They where just there... Few millimiters away from the strud... He had to change the tires (from normal use) and bought the same tires 4 years later or something... The new tires, same reference were rubbing the struds.... As Jyeager says... Some tires would fit and some that wouldn't....

CONSIDER WHEELS WITH 3.75" BACKSPACE, IT SOLVES THE STRUT CLEARANCE ISSUE BUT CAN CREATE RUBBING IN THE FRONT WHEEL WELL DEPENDING ON TIRE VARIANCES AND SPLASH GUARD FITMENT. MY 15X7" STOCK WHEELS WITH 1.5" SPACERS CLEARED ALL AROUND WITH 31 X 10.5 X 15 TIRES. MY NEW 15 X 8 WHEELS WITH 3.62 BACKSPACE AND NO SPACERS CAUSED A SLIGHT RUB AT FULL LOCK. I USED A HEAT GUN TO RESHAPE THE INNER SPLASH LINERS AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM. 3.75 BACKSPACE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER ON THE R50

I WOULD LOVE TO RUN 35'S BUT HERE ON EARTH IT JUST ISN'T GONNA HAPPEN. 33'S CAN BE DONE BUT I OPTED NOT TO DO SURGERY ON ME 97, IT DOES FINE ON THE 31'S AND MY SPEEDO IS STILL DEAD ON.

I used 265/70r16's with roughly 2.75" lift. I has to use 1" spacers to clear manual hubs with stock dust covers. And I had to remove fat off mud guards on rear and relocate inner wheel cover forward 1.25" on front and cut off offending bumper parts to have no rub in reverse.

Do what you want but I saw plainly that 265/75r16's were gna make me a nightmare on rear of front wheel well clearance. But I retained stock wheels and center caps with Warns.

I have 265/70R17s mounted on 17x9 wheels with a 4.25 back space on mine but I had originally put them on at stock ride high and I did have to trim a little in the front to fit them. Since then I've lifted it with a 2 inch suspension lift and to be honest, I didn't really gain any extra turning clearance, meaning I would have probably still had to trim. This is most likely because of the heavy back space on my wheels
