Console Armrest Vinyl Deteriorating

Hi,

 

The vinyl on my center console armrest is deteriorating. The patent finish is flaking off on my arm, and it has a fake suede feel now. I looked at Courtesy Parts, and the replacement is $208. That's a little more than I was wanting to spend.

 

Has anyone else had this problem and found a good fix? I've thought about taking it to a local auto upholstery shop to see if they could recover it and how much it would cost.

When I bought my truck, the center console had a huge crack down the middle. I wanted to replace it so I looked around and found a local Nissan dismantler. I bought the replacement console for just shy of $100. It was a bit steep in my opinion but I now have a new console. I'm sure you can find a wrecking yard somewhere. It's also a really easy fix, when you fold up the console, there's 2 botls that hold it in place. Unscrew them and replace with the new piece.

You can do it yourself if you want. There should be DIY's and if you need fabric hope into Jo-anns fabric.

What color is it? I have some brown material here that is fairly close to the Nissan stuff. I used it for my fridge centre lid.
