Hi All,

I am new to this forum and a new R50 owner as well. I recently purchased a 2003 SE. The previous owners were an elderly couple who purchased it new and kept it in the garage the entire time they owned it. Its got 150,000 miles. I am new to 4x4 vehilcles as well. I know I have a lot to learn about my Pathfinder and the Off road potential it has. I have a lot of questions and from previous posts i've seen it can get annoying having to anwser the same bunch of questions over and over again for us newbies. To respect you guys i'd greatly appreciate being directed to posts that answer my questions and would find that sufficient.

For starters I am wondering what modifications would be recommended to a beginner vs what should be left to a professional/ seasoned mechanic to undertake. I'm at place in life where i don't think i'll be able to fully devot my time and money to creating an off road vehicle that can tackel anything thrown its way. My desired outcome for now would be to create a daily driver and a vehicle I can take camping/to the beach and not have to worry about any terrian i may encounter.

I've seen a lot posted about Old Man Emu suspension systems. Is there a post that gets into the specifics of which suspensions are better for which set ups people are trying to accomplish?

I've seen a lot of post regarding tires and which ones are best recommended for aggresive off roading. Taking into consideraton that I'm looking more along the lines of an all terrain tire that offers off road capabilities while maintaining funtionality as a commuter tire, what would be a reccomened tire?

Appologies for my ramblings. Any post reccomendations for a beginer are welcome. Cheers!

Hey fellas. I have been on the forum for about 1 year. I have a 2002 Pathy LE. I just dropped the fully built motor back into her 2 days ago and so far the new motor only has 66 miles on it. I live in northern WI and its -14 right now so I also did 3 coatings of rubberized undercoat to the frame and body etc. I have a canoe rack and rear tailight guard atm but plan a 2.5 inch lift, new suspension and 32inch tires and several other goodys like a 42in baja designs light bar, digital police scanner, laser/radar detector. Dual battery setup etc. I will actually be in Virginia in June DDC03 (I see you have Virginia plates) I will be stationed at fort Eustus all summer and my Mrs will be out there as a travelling nurse also. We use my 02 as an adventure vehicle/daily driver. We will be purchasing an Aliner Travel Trailer with the offroad package next fall to do a 48 state road trip in the pathy. If you have any maintainance or repair questions direct them my way and I will gladly help if I can. I have had this brilliant little truck in a thousand pieces already and replaced just about everything that can be replaced. I love the red color of your truck btw, its really clean! Mine is a desert tan color.

Kind regard, Josh

Thanks for the post Josh. Unfortunately those plates aren't up to date. I currently reside in Columbus OH. I have however spent lots of time in the Newport News, Hampton Roads area in the past. I am also a nurse and for a time I worked at Riverside in Newport News.

Have you decided how you plan on achieving the 2.5in lift? Old Man Emu? What tires do you think you'll eventually go with?

Cheers,

Dan

Hey Dan sorry for the slow reply. Been real busy with work and building my pathy. I'm probably just gonna go with 2.5inch suspension spacers and some good quality shocks. The spacers are around $180 and the shocks vary depending on brand. I will also be going with a reputable retread that I have used many times and is second to none. I'll include links for ya!
