bushnut
so I scored this old "jack all" high lift jack...it will jack no problem but when I try and lower it (under load or no load) it just slams down. you should be able to jack something up and then down at the same rate. anybody have a clue on how to fix it or what part might be worn?? I'll be sand blasting it next week to check for cracks in the casting and replacing all of the cotter pins.
kdj
I think Princess Auto has the repair kits for them. New pins, springs and cotter pins.
SilverPath
The pins can bend, along with the springs there really isnt much else to break on them. The kits are fairly cheap to rebuild them

92Path_68CJ
At least with my Hi-lift brand jack, I had to play with it to figure it out. IIRC at least one pin needs to be locked in. Pull the jack handle all the way down, then engage the lever that allows the jack to lower very carefully. I'd try this without a load. It's been a while since I used my jack and I don't remember 100%. I just know there's a way to lower it without dropping it.
