Can't figure this one out, Ford Fusion tire question

well if $112 each isn't such a big deal for you, than why don't you send it to me, than add on the mounting balancing, disposal fee, tax, tpms sensors and when it comes to $300, you can make the check out to me.

Not looking to skimp and save a few dollars, of course safety is top concern but the woman who needs the tires doesn't have a bunch of money right now and neither do i.

And I wasn't looking at the cheapest tire either,

You remind me of the fanatics on the NICO site when we bought our 94 Infiniti Q45 and the guy tells me ( after we just paid $4500 for the car), "well if you throw about $1500 into it , it will run like new", YEAH OK, Did he miss the part about just spending $4500 !!

not picking on you but not everyone can afford the extra money to move up to a nicer or better tire, The cheapest tire they had was $75 with no tread wear rating, the guy tld me they usually go 20-30K, and as I told the car's owner , yeah you get them and 20K miles form now you need new tires again, might as well get the better ones.

The whole point of this thread was why would Ford put a V or W rated tire on a 4cyl Fusion that might hit 112 down hill, not 168 !

I checked online. There are a few Tires Plus in your area of zip code. Check out their website. They have the Primewell PZ900 for $77 a tire. Of course install and everything else. But might be a shot.

Not sure of your area tax rate to see possible final price.

As for Primewell tires. I run those on the wifes car. 2000 Mazda 626. No ABS car. They work great. Good dry, good wet traction. Only a few times have I locked em up. But that was a 50+ mph speeds with ppl running red lights. Added note, wife is not a aggressive tire and they have been on there since 112k miles, now has 156k miles. Just now, getting to the wear indicators. But can still go until spring on them. (Can squeeze 50k out of them easy. )

Tis about the best I can do.

Only reason I can think of having a W rated tire even on the 4 cylinder car. Is standardized tire from the 4 cylinder to their sport version with the V6.

thanks will check them out, only need 2 right now. The tire on the front pass. side was making a slapping noise every revolution, slow speeds normal speed, went away when turning, I checked under the car that corner everything is tight, pulled that tire, no visible signs of a belt coming apart or anything. As a test I put the spare on and no noise, so I figured that indicated the noise was with the tire, the fronts are worn pretty low. Put the tire back on ( the one that was on) and the noise was gone. The car's owner drove it today about 50 miles to Dr. appointment and back and she said she never heard the noise.

Don't know what the noise is but it was there and now it isn't, nothing in the tread that I saw.

$112 per tire is not a bad price and everyone has to pay for that other stuff other than TPMS crap. If you need to save $, don't put them on and use the old fashion 'check it yourself' method.

I actually can not even recall when I have bought tires for that low of a price ever (often never had the option), so I wouldn't complain regardless of what personal economics are. It is the cost of driving...

Sorry, I look at the most cost effective and appropriate purchases, and yes sometimes that means stepping up a notch or two. Sometimes it means not being able to and picking up a stop gap item knowing it won't last. Sometimes it means doing without. I've been at every point...

You have a Discount tire in Forrest City, 15 miles away and they list tires for the car that are not V or W rated, maybe you should give them a call.

I'm guessing a 2008+ SEL trim model with the 17 inch tires, 225/50R-17 specifically, no? How does one expect a 50 series, 17" rim tire to be dirt cheap?

Have you contacted Ford? :scratchhead:

Maybe this is why it is getting treated as a performance car

SE and SEL models were available with a 221 hp (165 kW) 3.0 L Duratec 30 V6 and a 6-speed automatic.

I'm a fanatic because you bought a luxury car for cheap and it needed some work? Hah! Send you the money for someone elses tires? You are totally irrational and have some issues to sort out.

no, I jacked the car up on that corner the night they told me about the noise, she took me for a ride around the block first and it sounded like the noise was coming from the tire as it only happened what seemed like every revolution. anyway I jacked the car up, checked for play in the wheel bearings and from side to side, no play, also checked the lug nuts they were tight.

Saturday I swapped the tire for the spare as I said no noise with the spare. Put the normal tire back on, no noise Don't know ?

well obviously you can't read as I said it was not my car,

"it's not my car and the lady who's car it is took it over from her son who left it here when he had to return to duty in the Army,"

Thanks I know where the Discount Tire stores are, I live here, and going online to their site gives you the same products and prices as if you were to walk into the store.

I never said I was looking for a cheap tire, I was complaining about a "W" rated tire on a 4cyl Fusion,

yes some model's of the car also came with a larger more powerful engine, but that doesn't mean the lower performance cars should come with the same tire, sure it may save be more cost effective for Ford to use the same wheel and tire on all models of the Fusion,

No didn't complain to Ford, just was venting here

"You are totally irrational and have some issues to sort out."

Thanks

I guess the best thing to do is to just stick with Nissan questions and not vent on here anymore, we will always have our difference of opinions

Not going to sit here and go back and forth with you anymore, have a good night

Delete this whole topic if you would like, it is so far off my original topic that it's a joke,

Thanks to everyone who had constructive things to add

AAAnd my .02 on the high speed rate. Tires on a car that probably shuts of at 112 to begin with...

You have to factor in not just the top speed of a car but the suspension itself might be one basic design for multiple trim levels, some of some may be a higher end sports package meant to take corners at rates closer to its top speed. Sure granny's Escort that only goes to Foodland can be happy all it's life with pep boys off brand whitewalls but something that actually gets used as an actual mile collector might want to at least stuck closer to what is truly recommended for it . (Besides the old door tag misprint on Explorers that said 12psi but was "Firestone's fault" the tires would blow when following what the manufacturer "said")

I pointed out that Discount Tire shows tires in that size for that car that are NOT V or W rated and to call to make sure they wouldn't have a problem mounting them before you show up. If that isn't helping, I don't know what is!

I'm talking about the size/type of tire. Low pro tires on a 17" rim will cost more than medium profile on a 15 or 16" rim of the same size so it is the nature of the tire to be more expensive, not cheap as in brand. You know this...

Sorry if I didn't memorize your thread, I do read a lot of them...

Yes, you do need to chill because you read negative where you want to, not where it is.

I'll avoid your threads if you wish, other than Mod functions.

Wow, I love the level of agitation over tires of all things. Anyway, maybe Ford is trying to boost their tire reputation by putting on capable tires

After a debacle at Sam's Club, just bought some Michelin Primacy MXV4s for the 'Merc at America's Tire. Went with H rated and a little bit wider- very happy. $112 a tire, and with a $100 rebate so out the door wasn't too bad.

My mother put those Michelins on her maxima when it was first purchased. Up here in canada they lasted 60k KM and the sidewalls were cracked in 3 years. I also found them terribly loud. This was in an 18 inch wheel size. Think tires for the fusion are pricey try the maxima!!

Never heard that about the MXV4s, they're literally the quietest tire I've ever run across. I have 40k miles on them on my Lincoln and are still extremely smooth and nearly silent.

Maybe the Max has less sound deadening? Or the tires don't like temperature change? Or a different model all together? Maybe just bad luck all around

I'm looking at getting the Goodyear M/T's $170 a pop, but I need to wear out my 31"x10.5"x 15" Kelly Safari A/T's first. They've been great tires but I want to step up to 33" now. Pity you're across the country, you could have 'em for $50 each, they only have about 5,000 miles on them.

That is like the Toyo Proxes 4's that I have on my Lincoln. Many reviewers say they were loud and wear fast, but I don't have an issue with noise and they seem to be wearing just fine
