96Pathfinder4x4
I'm checking off other minor items...roof rack is on the list, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Local builder here on craigslist that I'm going to check out. I may need to have the tire carrier rebuilt, so might get one built at that time....dunno. Karmann
Discountramps.com has some pretty decent deals, look on Amazon too. Depends on the style, what's your price range? Do you want the basket kind, or Yakima style?
nunya
Basket on the wife's truck is SportRack brand, might be worth looking into as well. It's Thule's economic line and still nice quality for a little bit less coin
Karmann
Oh and I forgot to mention, Craigslist, the gift of the gods, is an excellent source! Just wait and jump on whatever you like.
borninabarn
Amazon had the best deal when I was searching for the best price on my Rola.It is a nice HD rack and they offer an extension if you want it longer? They are $109 plus they want $29.95 shipping still a good price.
96Pathfinder4x4
I'm wondering about the lighter racks. (Rola, Thule, Curt) My plan is to load it down and mount a pull-out canopy, so I wonder if they're durable enough and will carry the weight. I'm pretty certain the Rola will work, Stioc has a canopy on his with no issues so far as I know.

96Pathfinder4x4
yakima... For the price of a Yakima, I can get a custom built one. I still need to go look at this one. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ptd/4094777691.html Edited October 4, 2013 by 96Pathfinder4x4

I meant to ask him, but I haven't been at my regular place of work, so don't have the explorer link and pw. I think that Rola with extension is well over $200 when it's not on sale. Ballsie
I have the Curt roof rack and i love it. Nice rack! Does that curt rack have the extension on it? Do you have a picture from the side view of the truck? It's hard to see how long the rack is in those pictures.
96Pathfinder4x4
You can see the extension in the 1st pic. The center 1/3 of the rack. (I was looking at this rack for a while....have decided on steel, so I can weld on mounts/tabs/etc. myself) Rack http://www.amazon.com/Curt-18115-Roof-Mounted-Cargo/dp/B004O844DS/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_img_y Extension http://www.amazon.com/Curt-18117-Mounted-Cargo-Extension/dp/B004O844EM/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_img_y#productDetails Edited October 30, 2013 by 96Pathfinder4x4

Rebelord
How is it mounted so low to the roof?Look up Stoic. His pics are in his build thread I believe. He came up with a slick way to mount it close. Sent from my Moto X!

albino
If you care more about beef than weight than a surplus gypsy rack is a really good fit for the pathy. I found one at a surplus store for $125 and I think the roof will cave in before that rack does. I'll try and get a picture of it this week. It probably weights 75 to 100 lbs after some light modification which is a lot of weight up top but worth it to be able to walk on / sleep on / hang hammocks from your roof basket. Mounting is a custom job for sure though.
