ChrisFreeman
So I have a question. My windshield has a brown wire in the front of the windshield. that is connected to a wire coming out of my dashboard. Any Idea what it is? I have attracted a picture. Thanks so much.
ahardb0dy
Antenna, some Nissan radios (as well as Sony) have a dual diversity tuning system, where the radio decides which antenna has the best signal either the fender mounted one or the one in the windshield. ChrisFreeman
Wow thats interesting. I thought it was an antenna but I already had one on the fender so I was confused. Thanks a lot

Towncivilian
Windshield one is FM, fender is for AM according to the FSM.
ahardb0dy
never heard that before about the fender antenna being for AM, where did you read that? I am only using the fender one and it works fine for FM and AM
adamzan
I have just the fender antenna on mine and my fm reception is poor even with an aftermarket head unit. My old rig with both antenna was much better.
ahardb0dy
maybe it's your headunit?
unccpathfinder
Am antenna...I was cheap and didn't replace it with that windshield when I broke mine and I don't have any FM issues...am works as well as any am I've heard but honestly only listen to FM or USB
MY1PATH
Windshield one is FM, fender is for AM according to the FSM. The FSM has a few typos in it, and looks like we have found another. If memory serves correct; AM radio is a wave typically taken in best by angular or angular coiled antennas (the L on you windshield or that square your home stereo came with that the antenna wraps around, will also receive FM esp if it has a straight segment leading to the unit) FM radio is traditionally a straight mast usually in multiples of 6" because of how the physical size of FM wavelength and how they can be divided / received. (IRC its 36" so 18" is a half wave and 6" is a quarter wave)
