projekz
I'm looking to get something better than my open diff in the rear of my 97. I've looked at the ARB rear locker, the Lokka unit and I'm also looking at maybe just getting a factory LSD from the junk yard. Is the Detroit True Trac an option? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dtl-913a582/media/images/make/nissan Otherwise, what other options are available under $1000? Thank you
rocky2
The Lokka or what is commonly known as a lunch box locker is the easiest and least expensive option. Aussie Lockers and Spartan lockers are cool but they don't make a locker for the pathy. I'm pretty sure you have a h233b Powertrax is another company http://www.andysauto...ials/powertrax/ makes a locker for 86-96 year for $350 http://www.4wheelpar...aign=CJ_ProdCat another option $300 4x4parts https://www.4x4parts...ker-p-6651.html http://www.justdifferentials.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4061 seems to list 1996-2004 pathy $340 Good luck Edited November 26, 2012 by rocky2

erathge
You bet they did! Not sure if it was just the SE, but thats what I have..

Radwaste
You can pull the third member out of a '00-04 Xterra like I did, it's a direct, pretty straight-forward swap. Just make sure you get the gear ratio right.

theexbrit
  Mine has the LSD sticker on the diff also, I haven't opened it up to check it yet! I'm thinking a Powertrax or something similar for the front (I have manual hubs so the lock/unlock noise won't be heard on the highway). I hope to get 33's next year so maybe I'll wait until then as I'll probably have to change the gearing.
rocky2
This web site is good info for gear choices http://www.angelfire.com/va2/nissan4x4/differentials.html if you are running 31" tires you should be running 4.625 ratio gears. That's why the terrible mpg and lose of power in our pathy's.

rocky2
Yes, I was But I thought the info was relevant to the discussion. I agree if you're going to bust it open and due a locker, you might as well gear it. That's why I posted.

Not to change the subject of the original post but, what do you call 'great mileage'?
projekz
I get about 450 kms to a tank. That's about 260 miles. As far as gearing goes. I'm gonna keep it stock since I do a fair amount of highway driving and I'm not planning on going with anything bigger than a 32 for tires. I'm most likely gonna stick to 31's for now. I'd love to do ARB air lockers front and rear but I'm not sure I wanna dump $2500 on that. Bumper and winch would probably be a better investment... theexbrit
Not to change the subject of the original post but, what do you call 'great mileage'? I get about 18-19 city & about 22-23 hwy. Compared to when I first got the truck (12 city, 14 hwy) it's great

theexbrit
Nothing really drastic. As noted the mileage was sheee-ite when I first got it, plus it was gutless up hills. I had cyclists & joggers passing me! But after installing electric fans, manual hubs, cleaning the throttle body, new plugs & cap, running Seafoam through the vacuum lines, etc, I now get great (relatively) mpg. I think the fans, hubs & TB clean helped the most.

Just make sure you get the gear ratio right. For some reason I was thinking the r50 had 31 spline rear axle shafts and the Xterra had 33 spline shafts... am I wrong and you can just do a straight swap from Xterra to r50? Im hoping Im wrong cuz there is an 00 Xterra sitting in the junkyard down the street with an LSD that I would really like! If I got the Xterra 3rd member could I use the pathy ring and pinion gears on it?
albino
http://forums.nicoclub.com/all-you-needed-to-know-about-nissan-axles-through-2004-t233955.html This is where I'm getting my spline count info. There is a lot of discussion on the forums about this with most people saying all r50's have 33 spline shafts and a few people saying there was a switch from 31 to 33 splines at some point. XPLORx4
R50's and WD22's (Gen 1 Xterras) have 33-spline H233B rear differentials. 31-spline H233B rears were used in WD21's.

Rebelord
No. Those are a Mxxx (M200) type. Only way would be transfer the whole rear end by welding on the control arm brackets and all Sent from fat fingers on S6
