PLEASE READ: NPORA Forum Is Moving *Move Complete*

It’s been a long time coming, but we are finally here… NPORA Forums will soon be moving!

Our new home will be at www.nissanpathfinders.net, which will finally bring the NPORA Website & Forum back together again. Not only will this help to better link the two, but it will also make browsing them easier since they will both be in a single place.

We’ve been testing the forum on a new server for a while now and believe that it is ready for regular use. For the general user the forum is a mirror image of the original. Everything will look the same and your accounts will remain as they are now, the only real difference will be the web address you use to get to it.

The move will happen the evening of Friday May 4th and we hope to have if completed by or before the end of Saturday May 5th (all times are Pacific Standard Time.)

During the move you will find that this forum will be offline, with a message letting everyone know that it is being moved. Once completed and function is verified, the new forum will be activated and the message here will be changed to reflect. This site will remain for a currently undetermined amount of time in order to direct both existing and potential members to the new location. (it will likely be a couple months at least, we’ll gauge the need based on traffic)

We ask that you update any basic links to this forum that you have on the web now if you can. “npora.ipbhost.com” should be changed to www.nissanpathfinders.net After the move, we will go into more detail about how to change a link that points to a specific thread on the forum.

You may be asking why we are doing this. Aside from the above the main reason is hosting. Invision Power Services (IPS) has made some changes that make it impossible for many larger forums to remain on their servers. We are currently on their Lagacy hosting, a plan that is expensive when compared to other options, adding to that the servers that they use on the old plans are outdated and slow. IPS told use that we would have to move to a newer plan and one that cost even more. When we did not jump right in, they started enforcing strict usage limits on us. Who has not seen the “Account Limited” messages over the past couple months? Yeah, this is why that has been happening.

We found what we believe to be a better option than what IPS was trying to force on us. As a result NPORA Forum is moving to a newer, higher tech system that can dynamically add resources as they are needed, in real time which should help limit slow downs. We should also experience less forum outages due to server related problems, because it will no longer reside on a single machine, but instead on a grid that instantly adjusts if a problem arises. In testing is has shown to be faster, and we hope that under normal use by all members, this will remain to be true.

As with any major change there may be some things that come up after the move. As an example, member posted links that point to another page of the forum will been modified to point to the new location, however there may be some that will still point to the ipb site. In those cases we ask that you let a member of the Mod Team know so that we can manually correct them. And if you find anything else that does not appear to function as expected, let us know so we can look into and if needed, correct it.

Overall we hope that this will make for a better experience for all of our nearly 7000 and counting members and set us to better serve the community going forward.

So I guess I really do have to scape off my www,nissanpathfinders.com sticker this time  .

All in the name of progress, right? :itsallgood:

.com redirects to .net, you're good.

That^ it's basicly mobile skin with options for push notifications from the ammount I played with it, but never got overly involved with it especially since the forums got updated here some.

And the forum move is all lies, just an excuse to rent a bunch of u-haul trucks!

We could just have a big meetup and have everyone bring their pathy and move their account their-self! I mean, im sure we could fit it all in the back of them...right?

But im glad we're going to have faster forums and less downtime! :D

The forum move is complete and as far as we can tell nothing was lost in the move. But please let us know if anything does not appear to function correctly.

Please update your bookmarks/favorites and any links you have on other sites. Also feel fee to spread the word (like on other forums) about our move.

And remember that the former site (npora.ipbhost.com) is now just temporary, it will be going away. :togo:

Thanks!

Ok so as promised, the following will cover editing old links that point directly to a tread, instead of just the main page.

Lets say you have a link on another forum that used to bring people to this thread *on the old server.* And now it needs to be updated to bring people *here*

This is how the web addresses differ,

Old Server:

http://npora.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=33064

New Server:

http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?/topic/33064-please-read-npora-forum-is-moving-move-complete/

As you can see, they are quit different. On the old board we used normal URL's. On the new one we are setup to use newer FURL's (Friendly URL's - Makes our forum easier for Search Egines to index and provide results for users)

So how do we change an old link to get people here? It's actually really simple

You simply need to replace

http://npora.ipbhost.com/

with

http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/

So your newly edited link will look like this:

http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=33064

Click the following link to try the example above :aok:

http://www.nissanpat...showtopic=33064

When they first implemented FURL's we turned it off, because there was NO WAY to make old links work, without completely changing them. We were not the only ones who filed complaints about it, so IPS added support that allows the old links to work with FURL's enabled :aok:

I like how it shows the topic starter message again, After the recent update before this one it didn't show it.

Ok, so the search function seems broken, sorta. I put in a search for Electronic fans and it brings up topics, but when you click on the topic you get nothing.

We disabled it several updates ago (around the upgrade to 3.x or just after)

And although not an actual update this time, it is a fresh install of the forum software.

It seems to work fine if you only search for one word, but not if you look for more than one.

We'll look into it,

Thanks

Ah, that explains how I meant sorta then. Some searches worked, others didnt. The one word search is spot on. Thanks.

ive noticed in trying to search old posts that the links are dead on some posts. not links to articles or photos but the actual forum link. http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?/topic/33061-2wd-steering-setup-installed-w-pictures-using-oem-steering-damper/page__view__findpost__p__622028__hl__%2Bsway+%2Bbar for instance this one...
