Running Hard?

Interesting. IDK it just seemed really weird that it was idling so high. Even in drive when im at a light it will jump up to 1000-1500 rpms. If you say its normal then i geuss its normal. My dad says its not tho. im not quite sure.

1000-1500 is not normal at idle. It should be 750 +- 50 rpms at any time, in drive, reverse, or park. Have you run the codes to see if anything comes up?

I'm going to guess you have a minor vacuum leak somewhere. just enough to bring the idle up, and not affect the drivability. Is the motor itself revving up? or is just the needle moving? I couldn't tell as there was a lot of background noise. I just ask because round dashes are known to have cluster issues, and you mentioned your fuel gauge does not function properly.

No..I guess I should run the codes..if only I knew how. LOL. I'm Mega noon help me out here buddy

Try reading the stickys in how 2 read all them not just this 1 from sticky in garadge section

I have seen this problem when I split the air tube between the throttle and MAF sensor. Look for cracks, they happen allot on bottom side of TB end where it is hard 2 see it.

if your dad isnt a tranny specialist or a certified mechanic chances are he is dead wrong, its normal, if there is not check engine light there will be no codes, vacuum maybe, but it looks 100% normal it does idle lower when its out of gear at the correct rpm level, now if it idles to low in gear you would have a lock-up issue with the torque converter you wanna check for a vacuum leak then do a smoke test

What simon said, it's not normal. Mine stays at the 750~ even when in gear. I bet he has a vacuum leak. Check the on the fuel pressure regulator its on the back of the intake manifold and likes to fall off.

Throw some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner or Gumout w/ Regane in your tank ($5-6 at Wal-Mart), that might help your fuel gauge - there might be some sediment or sulfur build up on the fuel level sending unit (or whatever the ball thing that floats in the tank is called).

Looks like the pictures are dead though.

Thanks. Gunna spend some time reading it soon.

Motor is revving too. Gas is the only problem in the dash currently.

Thanks for the info. Will be reading the link soon.

We have had 2 pathys b4 mine. a 88 and a 92. He also rebuilt the engine in his ford. He also loves to mess around with engines and stuff. He is not a certified mechanic and im pretty sure not a tranny specialist but he knows his stuff.

Cold start in park should be around 1200, Now, what I think it could be, and is easy too check is the fuel pressure regulator hose on the rear of the intake.

Huh? picture location?

fuel pressure regulator you say. Back of intake manifold you say. Can you explain the location of such a thing as if i had the IQ of Kyle.

Good idea. I will get right on it...as soon as I get some money. LOL

When you open the hood, look behind the top of the engine (at the firewall) you will see a little 6" hose, make sure it is hooked in and not cracked or missing.

Dude even mechanics are wrong sometimes. A 30 year certified mechanic didn't believe me that wd21 cv axles don't spin unless in 4wd with the stock hubs. He was surprised when I showed him.

The truck isn't supposed to idle at 1300 rpm.
