redneck repair

My backglass window and also the tailgate door shocks don't hold open anymore. I drilled a hole in one of the shocks on each one and now I just stick a rivet or nail in the hole to hold the window or tailgate open. Anybody do anything as crappy as this or am I the only one?

There was talk of this before, proably in poho... some people kink the piston slightly causing enough friction to hold it open, others just use "prop rods" of different origins, I used to have a "sleeve" I made for the back window on the cap of my HB. Replacement ain't hard on em though once you do break down and buy new ones. And I think some of em have lifetime replacement

I loaded mine with a spring. works the same hot or cold. Done deal.

I carry a tiny vicegrip in the cowling of the Z as it's hood struts blow just clamp it on the rod. They are not very expensive, though...

I finally found a pair for the window but haven't found any good ones for the hatch, I too use the small vise grip method

 

I think I saw on rockauto that they are fairly inexpensive

Never had a problem with the rear door on the pathy,the camaros hood is held up with a snow brush though.

I cut a piece of pvc to the right length, then split it down one side so it would fit over the piston.

i just realized thats what the pliers that were in the back of my pathy were for. just a tiny set of pliers... boy do i feel stupid now...
