maikan
I was installing my manual hubs today and when I was tightening the bolts that link hubs with wheels my stud broke at maybe 15 pounds of force !! Luckily I was able to unscrew the stud with a plier. Two questions for you : 1- Where can I find new stud ? From what I saw Warn don't sell them 2- How can I screw the stud ?? Do I need to screw the studs very tight or this don't matter ? And after screwing the studs I notice that they are not the same lenght. And for now I drive with a Warn hub on one side and the stock on the otherside. If I keep it locked is there a problem?

Until you install the other warn keep the one you have on locked and all should be fine. When installing mine I double stacked the nuts to tighten the studs. I didn't measure the force just went with feel. I used lock-tite as well. Maybe some are not the same lenght because they're not tight enough. HTH! maikan
Have an other question: When my hub was off I notice a play in the shaft. It was a good at least a 1/8 to 1/4 from side to side. The grease was looking very dark too. Is there something abnormal here. Thanks Edited April 25, 2010 by maikan
maikan
There was a kind of retaining ring on the shaft that I took off to get the old hub out. Do I nedd to put it back on the shaft after the install of warn hubs ? ( Wasn't sure but I did )
ahardb0dy
is it a stud that broke or an allen head bolt?
DanAK
When I installed my hubs I broke a stud in the first 10 minutes. I went out and just bought some high grade bolts instead, it made for a much easier install.
maikan
is it a stud that broke or an allen head bolt? It is a stud that failed, one of the stud kit that came with the hubs When I installed my hubs I broke a stud in the first 10 minutes. I went out and just bought some high grade bolts instead, it made for a much easier install. If I find high grade replacement stud I will upgrade. When you say that you bought high grade bolts, you mean that you didn't use studs, you use bolts instead ?
