Bam! Backfire

what would cause a single *loud* backfire? It never did it before and never did it again, just one time. the only thing that's been happening recently is a squeaky belt right at start-up (not sure which belt is squeaky).

A little more info about the backfire please. Were you idling, cruising, accelerating or letting off of the gas? Was the engine warm or cold? Were you playing Jazz or Country on the radio?? :D


For the squeeky belt, apply some soap on the underside of a belt while it is running (be careful!!). See if it squeals next time you start the truck. If so, it's probably not that belt so do the same to the next one...
