I recently received a message from a site moderator suggesting that I change my avatar. That it does not fall into the "family friendly" guidelines of the site. I have had this avatar since I became a member and it has never been an issue with anyone. I have not heard one word from an administrator, or anyone else who can actually make the call. I thought I would let the site members tell me what they think. Do you think my avatar is inappropriate or not?

your avatar is way over the line and always has been. there are several reasons why we have not pursued this in the past

same goes with your forum name..

it boggles the mind that you do not think that either your name or avatar are sexually suggestive and thus inappropriate for NPORA.. yes, rule #2.. it also encroaches rules 1 and 3 and addendum 1.1. did you take this up with the person that notified you of your encroachment? seems you didn't and thus this thread could also be construed as breaking rule #7.

however, i agree with you that the rules are a bit vague; in due time they will be updated too.

i like the suggestion of the NSFW test.. yours wouldn't pass that either.

now, i appreciate it that everyone is staying calm and collected. ideas is what we need. thanks for not bitchin' out of control.

and of course we'll take suggestions, if anyone here has any. thanks. :)

p.s. don't expect this thread to be around for ever.

thank you for reinforcing my point

your point is moot.. whether this forum is about truck or stars, it is a FAMILY FRIENDLY site and the rules are there to enforce that notion. if you want drama and all that jazz, pirate4x4 may be calling your name.

Isn't that more along the lines of what you meant? :wackinit:

When did this forum become Sunday school, and 94Extreme the teacher?

Maybe you should change your name to 94ExtremelySensitive/Hypocondriac/Mommydidn'tlovemeenough/TheLaw/HeadModerator.

I hope you find the emoticon offensive too.

Taking and making things personal is only going to get the thread closed.

Although he took the first step, he is not the only one concerned with these items we are discussing.

As mentioned, if we keep things civil, and discuss like adults, the thread can stay open.

Are we adults? Or are we children? :scratchhead:

seems things are handled well on here and people have good sense... when someone steps out of line it is handled appropreaitly, but this is a little much...

Avitar seems perfectly fine to me,... :my2cents:

Although I prefer a lower level of moderation as far as NSFW things and such go, and especially in the form of some avatars/joke pics/names go....I gotta go with what I had to enforce in my years as a admin on a forum just like this. That too was a family friendly forum (for the most part, more along the lines of 'professional' vs 'family') but in the end, it ended up being people having to realize that it is a private forum, and the rules aren't up for debate really. If someone wants the forum to be squeaky clean and not have to worry about kids seeing it, hosting being lost, or schools and bosses seeing, that is in their right. I regularly visit a great lakes 4x4 forum, in which up until recently, anything goes was the attitude. They just started making things get a NSFW badge in topic titles and link prefaces and such, but ftmp its uncensored. I do not visit this site while at school, simply due to the graphic nature of it, and I actually enjoy not having to worry about that when I visit this site.. Sure, I find morningwould's name HILARIOUS, and I get a good chuckle from some of the 'inappropriate' avatars and posts, but what makes me chuckle at home, could get me in serious trouble if I browse the site at a moderated location....

I personally realize how hard it is to accept the fact that what has just been a joke for a long time is suddenly badged NSFW, but what you guys have to realize, is that it only takes ONE person to get in trouble for the image or name to have been a preventable mistake.....and I'm sure that the mods/admins/owner of this site do NOT want that on their shoulders...so what I suggest, is look at it from that point of view, don't think of it as someone taking too much power, or just not getting a joke, but by you putting obscenities in your profile and such, it could cost someone else a job....

If people are still itching to talk about 'inappropriate' content and such, why not make a special forum that only allows certain members in, or require that everyone verify they are 18+ before entering the forum or putting in the password to enter the forum. That sounds like a legitimate compromise to me.. :\

Just my .02

Oh yeah, I'm not offended by any names or pictures on this site at all, but I can see how it can be interpreted as inappropriate.

My son can no longer dress up at school for Halloween, because of ONE parent throwing a fit of how it might be offensive to the Wicken community. They cannot put up a Christmas tree or Christmas decorations because someone might get offended. Why? Because the Piece of Shizzle Liberals that think they have to cater to the few. Regardless of what the opinions of the masses are.

If you want a perfect/everyone friendly site. Then you better have a lot more strict ruling, and enforce it right off the bat.

DISCLAIMER: The use of the word Shizzle is not meant in any way, shape, or form to cause offense to members of the African American Community.

I was honestly just making a quick joke since we own Pathfinders here, not Pick-ups (Hence the SUV comment over the Truck thing), no offence but I wasn't trying to back anyone up OR put them down for that matter. Just trying to keep it a little lighter in here so it don't get closed over some personal bickering. I know a little sensless and pointless, but hey...it's just how I am.

So, is the main reason we are trying to curb some of the allowable content on this forum because it "Is Not Safe For Work," because I feel this is only the problem of the person looking at online forums while at work (or school). Parents who are worried about their kids stumbling upon an open laptop, I say its the parents fault for leaving that laptop open. You are responsible for what YOU look at while at work, and YOU are responsible for allowing your kids to look at your computer and so on and so forth. How about we take some responsibility here folks and drop that caddy BS about oh gosh I cant see anything inappropriate while at work or school, chances are you shouldn't be browsing in either location anyway, do your work.

Now, that being said if someone has a personal problem with the picture or phrase or whatnot that should be addressed, and not saying addressed means taken down or whatnot.

I think we can all agree the internet is far from a perfect world. We can not expect this forum to be spotless, some people really get into their avatars and signature pics. I think we all need to calm down a little bit and realize is this conversation really worth it? I mean if your kids came up and read his forum name of morningwould, do you really think your kids would know what he is insinuating? His picture of the two women is small, no nudity, and looks to me to be an artists rendition anyway, would your kids even notice? Or is your horn dog of a boss looking over your shoulder at work, not caring that you are not doing the work set in place for you to be doing, but instead he gets on you about shadowed nude female bodies less than a 2x2 picture on your screen??? C'mon.

I honestly don't know what the problem is. I am one of those odd people I guess that do not believe in censorship, at all. If you want to get on to the radio or on the TV & say a bunch of foul things (cussing & derogatory terms) them by God, at least here in America, its supposed to be your right. We no longer have freedom of speech here, & I can say for sure for any other country either guys cause I don't know you laws & rights, because a few people or maybe even a large number of people get offended or upset or it hurts their feelings. Well I'm gonna tell you guys what I told the police officer who pulled me over & tried to give some BS lecture because he has a high school diploma & a badge now, which is luckily for us here in the US feelings/emotions are not covered in the Bill of Rights nor in the Constitution. If you don't like what’s on TV or on the radio change the station, don't censor it. If you don't like what someone says on here or their name or a small insignificant little picture up in the corner then don't go into that thread or don't come around here. Pirate is pretty wide-open & there are many people who bitch & complain about how mean everyone is over there & how foul they are but somehow how they are the largest online 4x4 forum on the net, so that tells me that more people than not don't mind a little freedom of speech.

That all being said, mods/admins understand that this is not a personal attack on any of you. Where this is a public speaking forum it is also a privately owned forum, which means you can make whatever rules & judgments you want without any just cause, that’s the beauty of private enterprise, & if we, the patrons of this forum, don't like it then we can jog off & find another place or we can start our own. That’s how this dog & pony show works. I just wanted to rant a bit about freedom of speech & more importantly personal freedom & the freedom to make up one's own mind. If this is not a free place like stated in the above then just tell us from the begining, like I've said this is your tree & I'm just a squirrel trying to get a nut...

I think this is a good time to remind people that this is a poll and perhaps a discussion about MW's avatar and how that applies to this site. We do want to hear the input because while this is a private site, it exists for the members and their Pathfinders so let us focus on that. When the tangents start including religions, political parties, etc I feel we have stopped discussing anything useful and pertinent.

Thanks,

B

A lot of the views are people checking in to read the latest posts, some might just be curious what your avatar is and others may look but not vote as they do not care enough either way to bother; they just care about the pathfinderness of the place...

Exactly adam, this should not be a place you have to hide from kids, it's an automotive information site :togo:

And as for not posting... I'm sorry, but things have not changed much, things are still basiclly the same as they were when they signed up, its more *IMO* people expect them to change to suit them

As above, no one should ever feel the need to have to hide NPORA from their kids... last thing you need to worry about when you looking for that info on changing your CV's is hiding the screen from your young kids while you franticly search for the info using your grease covered hands :D

Actually my former pic was there for years, from when I was just a member, and it was a single animated woman dancing. (and no, there was no pole involved) ;)

No one had any issue until recently, then we started getting PM's about it. To be honest, if that was to much then so are several others. And BTW, I willingly removed it, no avatar is worth the hassle in my mind

I don't think there is much content on here to hide from "kids" but what do we classify for kids...it is an automotive forum so 15-16...I guarantee theres not many "kids" that haven't said/seen or read anything that has been posted on here that may be considered explicit by some (this doesn't include helpful information for fixing their trucks, yes truck b/c its on a truck chassis not a car chassic) I actually had difficulty with your posts b/c your avatar changed and think it kinda sucks that it changed but you did what you felt you had to do

I'll never change my avatar!!!! Unless I decide I no longer like crayons.

If anything I find this inappropriate...I has a crayon and the picture of a colored child can send off an enormous rumble of racism whether it be or not...for me yea i laughed but just brining up the fact that some people may not like it just like some people may not like "explicit language" or "suggestive avatars"

your avatar is way over the line and always has been. there are several reasons why we have not pursued this in the past

I don't see how his name or avatar is NSFW... I could understand if it was straight up pr0n but not even close...

My only bitch/suggestion is what has cut back my participation here and thats listen to the members...i've suggested several times to have a vote on what's acceptable and what's not or that certain mod's are more hardcore than others but that was all pushed away which sucks for folks that could use my participation or vice versa but it is what it is

Isn't that more along the lines of what you meant? :wackinit:

see above

I see your avitar and it brings back my mourning wood.. Thank you very much.

Everybody should be "happy" throughout the day.

That's pretty impressive...in fact I listened to that album today while at work over the speakers in the shop...damn I love me some rodney carrington...

Mourning...you get an all go on the name and avatar...

Just a side thought as well...if censorship worked then we wouldn't need it...and be honest with yourself as a "kid" when it came to porn (not saying any material here is), cussing, drugs, alcohol or anything that was bad for you...you did it and most people hid it from someone but eventually it became ok...or not but most think censorship is a good thing but if you look at most european countries when it comes to things like that it's never really a big deal, its just a part of life and well that's what it really boils down to...a part of life...

I also highly suggest for some of you up tight folks to watch Robin Williams Live on Broadway...it'll make ya look different at Patch Adams I guarantee ya that...and the best part is I bet you'll laugh your ass off too...

oh yea if my truck has "truck nutz" am I not allowed to post pix of my truck?

Not if they are on your chin...

damn...completely disappointed....what if the pathy is tea bagging a Jeep (Junk Eletrical and Emissions Parts) (Junk Eletrical and Emissions Parts) (Junk Eletrical and Emissions Parts)?

On a side note did you know those truck nutz are banned in Florida because some woman (no offense) got offended.

haha nope but I know my mom was trying to find me some one year for Xmas but never found them in town...how awesome would that have been?

What about trucker mud flaps then?

EDIT: why does Je ep add text to the post?...annoying...

I actually had difficulty with your posts b/c your avatar changed and think it kinda sucks that it changed but you did what you felt you had to do

I changed it because some members thought it a problem, and it was far less suggestive than the one in debate now :togo:

I did it willingly, because once again, it's just a picture, if it makes someone uncomfortable, then it is not a big deal to choose something else. People seem to think that just because its on the internet that they should be able to do what ever they want. It's each persons right to have or not have that opinion.

*This is not directed at any one person*

The thing that kills me here, is that the rules have not changed in any major way since the begining and every member here signed up knowing what they were. But there are a few who have decided that they should be able do things differently than they have always been just because they want too or because the "rules are old" These rules are what have attracted many members and kept even more of them here. NPORA IS different than other places, and most like that fact.

There are many forums that allow way more or even an anything goes type of environment... why must this be yet another internet forum clone? Once that happens, we loose who and what we are, then NPORA may just fade into the mix and be forgotten :togo:

My only bitch/suggestion is what has cut back my participation here and thats listen to the members...i've suggested several times to have a vote on what's acceptable and what's not or that certain mod's are more hardcore than others but that was all pushed away which sucks for folks that could use my participation or vice versa but it is what it is

Trust me I understand your point about voting, but you and I both know that a vast majority of the members here will not vote and will just leave if it becomes something that they don't like. NPORA has build a user base of 4000+ members with countless unregistered members who lurk about as they get the info they need. And all of that was built on the rule set in place. I personally cannot see how changing the rules and turning it into something that it is not, can be justified to suit a handful of people.

*again not directed at any one member, nor meant to piss anyone off*
