Today around 4:30 while on my way to a family BBQ, I was sitting at a stop light on HWY 99 and I got rear ended by a guy doing about 50mph. He hit me so hard that all I remember was seeing my pants, then the sky through the hatch back window (which was when my seat back snapped) then my pants again then ahead at the car ahead of me. I had just looked up in my mirror to see the blue Taurus' front end dip down from braking a split second before he hit me. I was plowed into a Prius ahead of me and completely destroyed that. (YES THE PATHY DIDN'T GO DOWN WITHOUT TAKING SOMETHING WITH IT!! AND IT WAS A PRIUS!!!!!) Instantly my neck hurt like hell and I was screaming in pain and some guy rushed over and asked if I was alright, I said yeah but my neck hurts so he called the cops and ambulance. My door was jammed shut so I had to kick it open and when I got out my full tank of gas was pouring onto the ground. Mostly he hit my trailer hitch and bumper which bent my frame up and crinkled the whole body. My front end was sort of all right, the bull guard took almost all the impact. My truck was still running afterwords and I had to turn it off lol. The impact was so hard that it broke my stereo off it's mounts and sent it way back against the firewall and the ash tray came out and threw bullets everywhere. I got out and looked at my baby crushed and I started bawling, completely bawling. My brand new exhaust was all ripped up and twisted and oh my God. The guy who hit me came running up and was like OH MY GOD I AM SO SORRY I DIDN'T SEE YOU I WAS LOOKING AT THE CARS ON THE LOT AND THEN YOU ALL WERE STOPPED! His hand was all bloody from window glass I assume. I got my camera out and took a bunch of pics, but it's in my mom's Jeep so I'll have pictures tomorrow.

The the ambulance came and the paramedics strapped me onto a stretcher and took me to the hospital.

After a catscan and MRI and stuff the doctor said that I just tore some tissue in my neck, and then he asked me if I saw it coming. I said yes, and he said almost for sure that if I didn't tense up from that I would be paralized right now from how hard I was hit. After I got out on the way back home with my step mom, she started crying and told me that this morning she said an extra prayer. Something along the lines of "God, please bless someone and wrap your warrior angel's arms around them today and protect them in an accident."

Tomorrow my dad's going to get me a rental car, our insurance will pay for one. Then after I get money from the insurance for my truck, plus personal damages and medical, I'll have another Pathy.

So that's that. Over a year's worth of love, work, and joy crushed in 3 seconds. It could have been worse, by all rights I should be severly hospitalized.

Important thing is you were NOT paralyzed or worse(and I've seen some bad stuff, trust me). Sorry you lost the truck in such a short period of time. At least you CAN go on the hunt for a replacement though-good excuse to find a white one!

Thanks guys, and yes that's very true. I'm so thankful for my life right now, and that Teresa said that extra prayer this morning. I know some folks on here aren't religious, but this accident really means a lot to me and my faith level just went up a lot.

There's a few Pathfinders around here that are pretty damn awesome. My dad has a lawyer through the Port of we need it, in case insurance tries to lowball me and all that stuff.

If I can get the truck back on a salvage title I would definitely part it out, there are some parts that are mine and only mine that I will be putting on the new Pathfinder, but other than that IF I do get it back let me know what parts you need.

Today I was going to post a thread in member's rides, but I might anyways.

Holy Chirst man. That's Awful. Make sure that Dink Pays. I don't care if he was friendly or whatever. Those pains in your neck might feel better in a few weeks but I can promise you that you'll feel them again at some point in your life. Take that Ass to the Cleaners is all I can say. Get yourself a Pathy from Insurance and from the Dinks settlement, buy everything you've wanted for your Pathy or blow it as you see fit. Telling you man.... I have pains coming back to me now in my 30's even that I got in my teens and I can't even think about how bad I'm going to feel when I hit my 50-60's. If I make it that long haha.

At least your alive man... and not Paralyzed cause that would be such a hard thing to deal with. Screw the Pathy. They're a dime a dozen. be thankful that your Body and Mind are intact. My Wife deals with the Psychological side of Cronic Pain Management for Accident victims and its heart wrenching of hear stories of some of these poor people and their lives from accidents that they had nothing to do with.

Glad your alright. Milk it for what you can get from it cause I'm telling you.... If you don't your going to wish you had some day. hmmm.... I feel american saying all this hahah LAWSUIT LAWSUIT!

Glad to hear you are OK, Bud. That's all that really matters. Like was said before, Mind and body is what matters, all else is icing. In a way, this is a lesson. All that time and effort into the Pathy and Bang, it is gone (other than your knowledge and experience). This will happen many times in life be it theft, fire, accident, etc. Focus on learning to salvage what you can and moving on...

And yeah, there are plenty of great Pathys for sale... :D

Thanks guys. It's a scary thought to know that one look in the rear view mirror probably meant normal life or paralyzation. But at least I'll be able to DRIVE another Pathy again, soon. And I'm glad no one else was hurt badly. The guy better pay up for sure. He did a lot of damage...

It is just sheet metal, but damn it hurts...

Damn, glad to hear you made it out OK. Not to make light of the accident, but it is pretty funny that the car in front of you just happened to be the most hated car on this forum and the Pathfinder totaled it. I feel bad for the Prius owner since he got fskced as badly as anyone else, but it's still great that your Pathfinder's last act was to take it out. Hope you get some enjoyable pain meds and enough cash to buy a new Pathfinder with left over for mods.

Yeah haha it was like my life goal to destroy a Prius, and that was taken care of early! Gotta love the spirit of a truck owned by a redneck, "I ain't goin' down without a fight!"

New Pathy is definitely in order, along with some mods for sure!

I don't hate Prius's. Ain't nothing wrong with wanting to take better care of the planet (acting smug about it though is another story)

Sorry to hear about the accident. I always keep an eye on my rearview when I'm stopped at a light until somebody stops behind me, heard too many horror stories that didn't have a good ending like this one not to.

The Pathfinder can be replaced, but your life can't! :)

Wow! I'm really sorry to hear about the accident and very glad you were able to walk away from it. I would suggest having a specialist take a look at the neck to be on the safe side and also at the spine. If the impact was hard enough to knock stuff around, total a Prius and tear neck tissue, you want to be safe and make sure there are no hidden dangers. The body is tremendously resilient immediately after trauma, specially in young people, and adrenaline + natural response can dampen a lot. Obviously, it's up to your doc but I'd have my spine looked at just in case there was anything there. Insurance/the other guy should pay. I doubt there will be any serious debate in terms of payment, specially if you have pics. I've been rear-ended twice (most recently last fall) and those things are almost always cut and dried "guy behind you at fault" since he/she should have kept adequate stopping distance, maintained their brakes etc.

Gotta love Pathy's. Sounds like that thing essentially sacrificed itself to save you. I shudder to imagine what would have happened if you'd been in a car or a tin can... Glad you'll be getting a new one.

Good luck, mate, and hang in there. :aok:

Wow.That sucks sweaty donkey balls mixed in pig mud paste! That same thing happened to me before. I was at a red light in my old Tracker (miss thats thing!) and was rear ended by a guy doing about 50mph. Totaled my Tracker, and I was banged up pretty bad. Sent my drive shaft into my engine! I was in the hospital for a couple days. I hit the steering wheel and broke that sucker, then snapped the seat on my way back from the steerting wheel. I had 2 broken ribs, a concusion, sprained wrist, and lots of bruises and a few cuts (glass f@#$ed me up bad). The worst part wasn't that it happened, wasn't that the guy who hit me was drunk, or the fact that he had no insurance (that pissed me off!!). No, it was the fact that all the work I put into that bad boy was instantly taken away from me. Granted, I'm lucky to be alive now and all that, but at the time my Tracker was all I cold think about. Eventually I got the money from that bastard and he went to jail, and I bought my RX-7 with the money.

(oh, sorry, don't want to ramble and thread jack)

But again, glad to hear your ok, and took it well, You should get a second look at your neck and back, and at your shoulders and shoulder blades. Buddy of mine tore some neck tissue, and it was attatched to some muscle in his back on his blades, but he didn;t find out about it till like a week later when he just dropped from work in sheer pain of it. So do get looked at. And I hear you on the religious part, because my mom told me that my grandmother had a bad dream the night before about someting terrible and she prayed for the safety of her family that night. God knows I cold be dead now.

Your pathy gets destroyed and you ONLY suffer neck tissue tears..!!! Boy..you're from the tuff batch ! :-) put it all behind you and start the next chapter... It will soon be an old story than you can tell one day to your children ! How dad survived a total rear end crash without problem.... hahaha

good to hear nothing else is damaged (apart your heart from losing your pathy) !

Holy crap man, that is really scary. This is a true testament to the safety of a Pathfinder. It was intense reading you first post, but I was relieved to see you are alright. One thing I would suggest is to stay on top of the neck issue so it doesn't become something bigger later and you get stuck with the bill. I am not religious, but thank God you are safe and I can't wait to see your new Pathy!

R50 for the win!!!

I Concur!!! Haha.

But I'm sure you'll get another WD21 for ease of knowlegde and parts.

He will get one because he is a stubborn redneck! I like his style on that one.

And I forgot to congratulate you on taking out a Prius, it is one of my dreams as well!

Thanks guys. Stubborn redneck, ha got that right!! That sucks about your Tracker 180x, those are good little rigs. RX7s are sweet though! GPG, my dad was trying to convince me to buy a little econo car not too long ago. He was beating himself up last night because of what would have happened if I wasn't driving an SUV when I got smashed in between 2 cars. It makes me shudder too.

They definitely built these old Nissans pretty damn well with a good boxed frame and thick body panel steel.

My dad is making my chiropractic appointments and what not as I type this, so it's going to be ongoing.

Insurance won't let me have the truck back so it's going to an auction yard later today. My dad's going to come pick me up so I can go and get all my stuff out of it and say the last goodbye.

I already found a few awesome WD21s to buy...yes I'm getting another one. I can't imagine myself driving a CAR50!

Hit like that didnt even knock any sense into you??

Kidding of course... glad to hear you are relatively okay, that sounds scary as hell.

Pathy: RIP's (pieces)

Lol, nope! Need something harder to knock sense into this one! ;) Thanks.

SC, I made sure to ask them about it and the insurance person said that by taking off the muffler I would have to deduct that from the list of things I need to be paid for. It was $300 for the whole system, the muffler is only $150. So I would have to pay another $150 out of pocket when I could just write it off and have another one put on. I can't drive the rental car since I'm not 18, so my dad will drive that and I'll drive his F150 around. :jig:

But look at it this way, I don't need to worry about putting a new gasket in my front diff and reinstalling my CV axles!
