Hi everybody and thnx for reading my post. I've recently picked up a 94 sev6 with the offroad goodies and such and I was pretty set on a sas but after driving this thing for a week idk anymore. it rides smooth, its quiet, everything works but sadly its slower than any car I have ever owned... that said im not a rich guy and most my cars have been composed of $400 beaters and subaru wagons. Do your pathys burn out? mine cant. nope not even 3 liters of nissan engineering under the hood and a 5 speed manual can my pathy break my back tires loose. Does anyone know how much more than a school bus these things weigh? 144xxx miles and no cel - sounds great but just cant put it down. please tell me something is wrong here. thnx

my buddy has a a late eighties truck with a ke24de or whatever and that thing is at least twice as fast.

i think they are in the realm of 4500lbs. have you done a basic inspection and tune up? who knows when the last time the previous owner did any maintenence to it.

srry to make it sound even more pathetic but the 4dr WD21 weighs 3,800 lbs and the ealier 2drs were closer to 3,600. and sadly the vg30 is only 10 hp more than the ka24 but @ least it provides a better tq band.

Stock pathy's are weak but you should still be able to break loose w/ a v6 turnig a MT. my 89 does (older TBI system) and it did before I put any mods on it(headers, high flow 2' exhaust, ignition, e-fan...)

x2 on making sure everyting is in good tune;

a worn cap and rotor can rob you of 10-15 hp

good plugs and wires

15 btdc spark timing (big differance)

X3 on all the tune up stuff.

Sad to say, you bought the wrong vehicle for burn outs. Fun, reliability, good off road capability yes. Burn outs, no...

But then with good tires going for $150 each, why the he!! do you want to do burn outs?

What he said... they're not known to be zippy...

That said, and SAS, and bigger tires will take even more from this.

Good tune up for sure. Mine showed great improvement when I did mine.

As far as burnouts go...yes these will do them, and rather well too if you try hard enough. I had a few videos up on yourtube on my old account of me smoking the old tires off before I got new ones.

Should you do one? Nah. But they are fun...

They're not fast at all either. My automatic will run a 12.1 sec to 60, with manual shifting.

For an old SUV, pathy's are plenty fast.

They're big thing, though, is the ability to go damn near anywhere... and when you're in deep mud/snow/sand or on ice speed doesn't count... torque, power, and the control to get them to the ground do :)

All my previous HBs were ka powered and while yes they could spin 31s when you dumped the clutch my 3.0 in my 88 is obviously a stronger motor, if anything noticable in what gears I can get up hills with compared to what before. Not goeing to win any street races with it(well against people who know how to drive at least-as fiew and far between that seems to be) you should still be able to kick the back half loose if you want to, so as stated how many times before, check into a good tune-up, and throw a fuel filter into the mix while your at it.

cant find my picture right now but it used to be my old avatar...yes you smoke the tires in one these...i actually left a decent set of tire marks last friday...it was a down shift into 2nd coming around a corner and i dumped the clutch just b/c my buddy was rushing me...when we left i left a lot more rubber than what I had anticipated...he told me that the smoke was pretty decent and when we left in their RV i probably left 20' of tire tracks (more so on the LR than the RR since i'm open but you could see the nubs off of the mud rovers)

but no its not going to be like a V8...and yes you can power brake it and get a good amount of smoke coming off the tires...theres also a lot of youtube videos out there...surprised that noone has bashed ya up too bad yet for burnouts

Not goeing to win any street races with it(well against people who know how to drive

The best car my 87 had under its belt was a 98 or 99 camaro...he had his chick with him and pulled up to my left and gave me some revs...i laughed looked over and uhh revved back...the light turned green...I had staged up to about 3500 and dumped the clutch...spun the tires...he stalled out...it was great he didnt look at me at the next light...and he didnt go for round 2...

4 lo on some grass/dirt (do not do this on hard pack) will spin all 4 uhh well 2 easily

What do you mean a Pathy won't beat a V8?

I LOVE beating F250's, Tundra's, and other large pickups off the light at stoplights... their V8 simply doesn' react fast enough.

In my experience, V6 = faster response, V8 = more raw power. I keep pressure on the brake, raise the RPM to 1500 (since I'm an auto), an once the light turns dump the accelerator to the floor... actually lifts the front end a little bit (not enough to pull the ttires off the ground of course, but you get pushed into the seat a little... nto bad for an SUV :D) and leaves the big boy sitting with his thumb up his arse :D

Though... I did have a Dodge Ram beat me once... but it was a &^%*ing turbocharged hemi... lol. I didn't know he was turbo'd till I heard the whine kick in and he passed me like I was standing still 0o'

I also got schooled by a Subaru WRX STI... my first introduction to that BEAUTIFUL machine :D I almost kept pace with him round the corners (due to the roads in philly being so bad, he couldnt' open up) until he cut someone off who swerved into my lane... dunno WHY he shifted lanes... *shrugs*

and leaves the big boy sitting with his thumb up his arse

Because he didn't use 1/2 throttle and either never noticed you or just shook his head...

This just in!! Breaking news!!

Pathys are slow and underpowered

Not so bad if you mod them, but even still.

Use them for their strengths, not their weaknesses.

Make friends and have fun, don't look like a tool.

If i want to go fast, I have a superbike that does the 1/4 in 10.2.

If I want to go everywhere the superbike cant, be comfortable and carry gear, I drive the pathy...

This from the guy with the tranny that was acting up?

Do what you want, but...

B

I have the new tranny for it, waiting till this one goes out to put it in. Could be tomorrow, or next year for all I know. Have a new set of rear shoes for it as well. And an old set of tires that are already illegal to drive...so...

so... blow it up?

Kids...

B

Yup!

What's the harm, possibly damaging parts that are going to be replaced in the near future anyways?

Might as well have some fun while it lasts lol. I'm definitely going to be extremely easy on her once the new tranny is in.

This Friday will be my last of that kind of fun.

*shrugs* Maybe, but in Philly I had the advantage plenty of times :) Poor road conditions (ever been to philly? Potholes there will swallow that superbike whole :P) gave my Pathy the advantage over ricers and the tight roads (some were more 1.5 lane than 2) gave my smaller size an advantage over the big V8 trucks and full-size SUV's :)

Tis all about location with that, I know :D

I've never thought either of my Pathys were underpowered, the 88 could use some viagra, because it doesn't have any get up and go, but after a minute you are going just fine. So no speed, but it has got some good pulling power, it can (and has) yank a full size truck out of the ditch no problem.

My 93 on the other hand, it has some go-go to it, but it also has aftermarket exhaust and intake.

Oh I never expected it to be fast but it just seems underpowered. im just going to dd and find a bronco 2 for offroading. Im sure it needs a tune up and its getting crap milage so today I will be working on it.

my old 93 seems to have way more power than my 92. What would be different. They both have the same rear end 92 just had 32" mud kings and the 93 had stock tires. if i turned a corner and stomped on it the 93 would burn the tires and fly like a bat out of hell i have even beat a few cars in races lol. but the 92 is a noticable differen and it feels the exact same as what my freind 91 is like. is there something different between the years like in the tranny or what? because my 93 was very very very poorly maintiained before i got it and i was surprised it lasted the 4 years i had it. Plus it seemed to be quicker whats with that? The one i have not was treated like a king always very well maintained.

i don't know about 94's but my 89 is slower than new cars on the road, but i don't push it past 3000 rpm ever to save whatever plus gass milage. but my aunt has a 2003 pathfinder and was the second car i ever tried to drive, and that thing took off like a bat out of hell.
