How long have you been posting on the internet?

I was posting on local bulletin boards in the early/mid 90s, but that was direct dial-in. I think my first post on the internet was in 1997. How long have you been posting on the world wide web?

Until recently, I used the net for info, research, porn, ur uh, I mean learning. It wasn't until last december that I opened a myspace account and got addicted to the net. This is the first forum/group I've joined, on Oct. 30th, I joined another 4x4 group that is based in the NW. All I can say is, I wish I would have used the net for fun and leisure to begin with. To hell with the learning...Kidding. I looked hard and hung out on a lot of sites before I joined up with this one. You guys have provided me with a wealth of info. Thanks for that. I hope I can return the favor someday. Sorry, buzzy and got carried away....again. :friday:

Right around 2000. On line gaming (ww2 flying game was a blast!!, I refuse to do on line gaming anymore as I need no new addictions) and a forum for VW bugs. The internet is definitely intertainment, but I use it more for information than anything else...

hmmm... round 1997... started chatting and creating havoc in YahooChat! Not long after that I started posting on the first forum I joined, which was "total nonsense". Seems that forum has been pulled down, I just went to see when I joined that board, and it's gonezo.

Started on BBS's (primarily "The Nameless One BBS") in 92-93 playing online games, while there I worked a free membership by allowing a local line to be installed at my home, which forwarded calls up through a network of similar setups. This expanded the BBS's "local" calling area across around 5 or 6 normally long distance calling area's :D

I first got on the Internet around 93 or 94, but did not really use the it much until a software package for BBS's was released in late 94 or 95 called Wildcat. It's been down hill since then, as I later moved to AOL, then straight free dial up access ...which is still available here... and later I moved to broadband (Satellite then cable)...

I made my first post in Compuserv for DOS around 1991 and i was in an IBM OS2 user group on a bulletin board called the Nashville Exchange around that time too. But my first really active community was in an old newsgroup called alt.newsrgoups.nissan.maxima or something like that starting around 1995.

I remember getting kicked out of a Compuserv group for posting something with the subject line "Beat the New Meat" that had a dirty double meaning when in fact the post was about the Meat Puppets new album that had just been released. God I'm feeling old.

I think there's something a little off with your math there, Ryan.

No, there is something wrong with your comprehension skills.

Direct dial BBSs: 20 years

Internet: 14 years

My friend's Dad was a complete computer geek so he had all kinds of equipment. It was litterally like War Games with using the actual telephone handset to communicate at first.

I started in high school...about 1992 on local BBS's. When there was internet, I got on that too. :D

Remember the old dial-up modems? I still have a 14.4k USRobotics modem in my closet. Hehehe.

I hate to say it, but I think I have you beat on this... I know I have a 56K, 14.4 (might of been soft-upgraded to a 28.8) and I am fairly sure I still have a 2400baud laying around here some place

My first one was a 2400, then I upgraded to a 9600, and was the envy of all my friends!

I was on BBS's around 90 or so and got the interwebs probably around 96 or so.

Our first modem was a 14.4 internal with AOL (eww). Then a 28.8 and later 56. Boy did I ever download a lot of tunes on Napster with that old win95 machine! I first started with computer related forums, and then when I received the 93 pathy I started to cruise more nissan related forums.

I was the first of all my friends to get high speed as well!
